The atmosphere is very warm and cozy, the decor is very typical for the mountain region in Poland. Great heavy wooden tables and chairs, wood burning stoves, fireplaces, stone walls. Everything we ate in Karczma was delicious and the portions absolutely satisfying! We tried couple different dishes including potatoes, sausages, goulash, potato pancakes with mushroom sauce! I got a table inside and didn't realize at the time that I would have a front-row seat to hear some local folk musicians who were on break when I arrived. The menu was extensive and there was a lot to choose from. After a full day of traveling, my eyes were bigger than my stomach - thankfully my waitress told me she thought my order was too big and steered me toward two of my three items. I'm so glad she did as it was the perfect amount of food and really nice options. I had the "highlander potato pancake" which was a stone baked potato pancake that came with garlic butter or local sheep's milk cheese as accompaniments. I preferred the cheese and while these weren't the traditional sort of potato pancakes I grew up eating from my grandmother, they were quite good. The pierogis themselves were outstanding - maybe the best I had while in Poland (and trust me, I had a LOT of them!). I washed them both down with a Polish beer.
