Okay, okay. This review needs an update!…read more I think we were initially put off that things were done on their terms: Partial and strictly adhered to opening hours, and the need to book! (The restaurant gets very busy). Having said that, each time we've sat at table, the staff have been friendly and very accommodating. We've eaten at the Anchor three times now, and it has been excellent on each occasion. There's no doubt about that. The menu was different each time - with interesting inclusions such as quail and venison (There's fish and a couple of vegetarian options too) - and the food is always exquisitely prepared and presented. The plate perhaps comes a little meat-heavy though, and maybe the fayre is a tad on the unadventurous side. You're going to need to leave room for a pudding though! They are to-die for! There's an extensive wine list, but I like a pint of bitter, and that's poured from a barrel behind the bar in the old fashioned way (no choice of beer though, unfortunately). At £60 for 2, it's for special occasions for us, but it's lovely to go for a walk by the water and then indulge the taste buds. It's lauded by: the good pub and good food guides recommended by Michelin the mobile food guide local secrets network Sawday's and our next door neighbours, who reckon it's the second best place to eat in Cambridgeshire. ;)

And the staff is at the top of their game; know all details of every menu item, and able to make great dinner recommendations with drink pairings. Prices are significantly less than what I would expect to pay in the States for fare of the same quality. Most of the main course items are around £15. Rarely have I been to a restaurant that has the perfect balance of fast and efficient service, and yet never once making a customer feel rushed. I was able to take my time, enjoy my dinner, read a book, and have a relaxing evening. But as soon as I wanted something else, I was immediately helped. The food was absolutely amazing. My only regret is that I could only handle one of the dessert puddings. I am very sad I have to leave the United Kingdom tomorrow, but I'm going to plan a trip back here just to try more of the menu items.

Loaded question, obviously. But I hope that translates to how much we are in love with the Crown Inn. Mark and his staff do their best not only to service the customer, but also to treat that customer as if they were a member of the family. It is hard to comment on any specific meal, as they all have been rather enjoyable. But, what I can say is the staff puts as much care into the preparation of meals as they do in their customers. Each meal on the seasonal menu is carefully thought out, and superbly executed. In addition to food have I mentioned the beer? The tap selection continually rotates with guests beers along with favourites to match your meal.......such as the Erdinger Heifeweizen!!! Finally, my best adivce comes in two forms. First, please go to the website and examine the particular menu for th time you will be present, again it changes. More importantly, this place is well known by locals so please do CALL AHEAD!!!!. I hope I have effectively convinced the average Yelpers that this location is worth their time, and if not.....no worries.......if frees up a reservation time for me!

Serving food only at the garden which is great because its sunny. Found a bench we can seat on. GOT IGNORED multiple times and no signs for what to do when you want order. After 20 mins seating and looking like a thwat we manage to ask where can we order. She told us that they are not taking orders for the next 30 mins, then proceed to walk away no explanation after that. Sooooo rude!!!! Eventually we catch the attention of one of the young waitress, ordered drinks and she kindly explained why can't we order food. She said to wait for 15 mins then hand us the menu upon my colleague request. After waiting for 1hr and 30mins and finishing our drinks we decided to just leave. Felt ignore, discriminate at and very hungry. Within the times we were waiting new costumers coming in and staff are accomodating them, asking for their orders and bring out FOOD. We visit and eat here a lot before the pandemic start because of the scenery, food and staff accomodating dietary needs. This might be the very last day that i will take our person supported.

Kirsty (manager) and her staff were outstanding and did an excellent job under a challenging request. My wife and I were in search of a pub/restaurant that could provide food for a group of 15 persons, within 24 hours, and much later at night. The reason for the short notice was another Turkish establishment in Ely, who shall remain nameless and which we will never patron ever again, canceled on us. When we reached out to Kirsty and her staff, and explained our predicament, they were very understanding and professional. They not only accommodated our group, but the food had been previously coordinated in advance and we did not have to wait long for it, and it was very delicious. I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND DINING HERE IF YOU HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY!

So you ask someone where the nearest pub is and they direct you to the Cutter. A proper old English pub with modern sensibilities. Had a decent curry, which they put together for me quickly as by the time we had gotten there (15 minute walk from the station) we only had 30 minutes there before we had to start making our way back to the station. Grabbed a pint, ate my curry somewhat leisurely, and sauntered back to the station. We really should have moved faster, as we got there 2 minutes before our train arrived and almost missed it again! :-) Next time I'm here I'll stay a bit longer, for sure.
