Came here at around 12 PM and was greeted by a friendly and attentive woman behind the counter. I opted for only a glazed donut ($1.25), but honestly wished I had picked up some more! The donut was fluffy and flavorful. It tasted freshly made and each bite was bliss. The glaze wasn't overwhelming either, and it complimented the fluffy dough very well. Hometown Donuts is my saving grace. I am a student at a school within walking distance of Hometown, and going there to get lunch every week is the highlight of my life. The owners are incredibly kind and know their regular customers. They never get my order wrong and they serve all the construction workers in the area. They foster a kind, accepting environment in addition to having AWESOME burgers and donuts. I often visit with my friend who is in a Powerchair, and the staff always bring our food out to us to avoid them needing to reach over the counter and spill things. They are very patient and assist with using the chip reader with students who may be new to paying in that method. My favorite thing to order at Hometown is the #1 combo-- a cheeseburger, soda, and fries. I also enjoy their jelly filled donuts, donut holes, and seasonal/special donuts (Oreo, Bacon, etc). The donuts are always fresh and fluffy. They offer a huge variety of foods, including every candy you could imagine and a massive selection of drinks! Be it Nesquik or root beer, they've got you. Hometown is an utopia for the students of the nearby schools (ACLC and Nea) and a great place to foster a warm environment. Kids gather here at lunch and practically flood the premise with their business. The staff are always hospitable and friendly to the kids and sometimes will speak different languages with kids who happen to know them. I have no idea how many times I've been here thanks to the soccer playing the WC (AKA "The Wild Child") has been doing over the years. All of those ventures out to practice and play in "Goose Poop Central" as well as the Bladium boggles the mind. It's kind of a blur at this point on what I ordered for myself historically but the WC always inhaled a raised-glaze donut in a matter of minutes and would go on to burn a gazillion more calories-worth at events as those "Energizer Bunny" mid-fielders always do. Never was a huge fan of donuts myself as I worked at a bakery and then as a catering baker in college and they just weren't my thing like croissants. However, I've sampled their sweet goods and they have been consistently good. I'm more of a savory and non-breakfast type so I opt for a savory sandwich typically. Those have always been good at Hometown as well. So, today, I realized WC's club was playing for practically, well, it seemed like an eternity, but I think it was about two and a half hours. His last state team chucked the snack factor and I have two teens in different sports so trust me you, the snack factor still is probably one of the most important ones, even for eighteen year olds! So, I am trying to bring that back with WC's current team. Starving as well, I headed over to Hometown to pick up some cold water and maybe some donuts even though it was 2:30pm but not having anything to eat so far in the day, I'd lost track of the time-space continuum because it was still before noon in my head. Being Sunday, Hometown was almost completely left out of everything on every tray except several ones and I figured, why not bring the boys something decadent as the very super health-conscious coach wasn't around to judge that day. Psst, that's an inside joke with the team here! I was exhausted and explained to a man working there that I had roughly 12-15 very hungry 9-10 year old boys to deliver to playing soccer. He asked me how I wanted to mix up the combination right before that. I told him I had no idea and could he please help out because he would probably be better at that choice. He picked up on my exhaustion and cheerfully and clearly had the formula down. He was so sweet and packed a couple of generous "Baker's Dozens" into a big box and I have no idea how many he actually packed because I had the WC deliver it unopened to his team after the games but it was a literal "shark fest" with additional team siblings suddenly showing up on the scene poaching out of that box! A bunch of his teammates stood up from about 25 yards away and shouted "Thank You, SO MUCH!" because I was busy sitting in the shade avoiding being blasted to bits by the both the wind and sun out at Alameda Point (AKA "Goose Poop Central".) 5 stars hands down. read more

I used to go here when i was younger and lived in the area... they have really good burgers and really good donuts! The people that works there are alright too... The lady can be kinda mean sometimes, but i think it's only towards young people who take to long to order. I passed this location many times on my way to the Main Street ferry, but finally stopped off a few times and very glad I did. Extremely great donuts. I'd have to rank it right up there with HomeSkillet for donut quality. Here's what I had: Mini Fritter - I love that you can get a smaller size apple fritter. This is an amazing fritter! So juicy and tasty on the inside, nice crunch and glaze on the outside. Perfect. Glazed old fashioned - Very good cake batter for the donut. Very flavorful even without the glaze. Custard filled chocolate loaf - Good tasting custard and the chocolate and batter quality is very good and fluffy. Donut holes - Great donut holes full of flavor. Ham and cheese croissant - Very tasty. Very rich. Almost too rich for me. So overall, I'm coming back as much as I can when I take the Main Street ferry or when I'm nearby. read more

Unless you know where they are located, you just wouldn't know. On he other side of Webster near the tube in Alameda: You must try their donuts! About a year ago they changed their recipe on their dough.......... delicious, light and tasty. Their "crumb" donuts are to die for. Be sure to go early or call as they have limited supplies daily. Their custard doughnuts are very good also and you must have their bear claws or apple fritters. For some reason I always hear people ordering their jalapeño cheese and egg croissant. Wow! GREAT big plump, yummy, perfect donuts to be had here!!! I was very pleasantly surprised! Lots of seating room (booths!) inside & PLENTY of free parking in either of their LOTS. Open late (till 3pm) and they serve other foods including some lunch items. The man who helped me (owner?) was SUPER nice. I worry that this place will go under because it's out where near the old naval base & doesn't seem to get as much action anymore. Kind of in the middle of nowhere, and in a parking lot that can get snarled if a car is simultaneously leaving while another is arriving. To be fair, we arrived at about 11:30am. The apple fritters. Every once in a while my husband says, "Should I get some donuts for the kids?". And I die a little inside because how can I not say: "Yes, and can you also buy an apple fritter? I just want a tiny bite and you can have the rest.". When he comes home, the apple fritter sits on the table and I announce (even though no one is listening) that "I am only going to have one little bit." and I break off a crispy-on-the-outside-gooey-on-the-inside corner and try to eat it very slowly. And then I break off another corner. And then I have to even it out a bit. This is usually when I realize that I should have been using a knife so that it doesn't look like so messy. I try to cut it in half but it's never quite straight so I eat that bit and then cut it again just so it is even. The thing is that now I've been eating the middle part which is so amazing, but my pallet needs more of the crispy outer edges because it just does, ok? So, I eat the edges of the other side, again forgetting the knife. I walk away, out of the kitchen. I try to get my mind off of the remainder of the apple fritter that is sitting there. It's ridiculous to think that I would eat the rest of it and just leave that little bit. What difference will it make if I do eat that last bit? None, obviously! So I eat it. My husband walks to where he left the fritter and sees an empty plate and a knife. "Where is the apple fritter Hun?" He asks. Omg. "I don't know.". I answer because I don't really. I mean, is all of it now in my stomach? Has any of it made it's way into my small intestine yet? I truly don't know so you can see that I have a very valid point. "You said you were only going to have a bit so I thought we'd share it.". He seems disappointed but I feel completely...satisfied. I can't bring myself to say "maybe next time you should get two.". Because I'm not ready to admit that yet. Maybe one day he'll understand my annoying attempt at subliminal messaging but for now he searches through the donut bag and around the kitchen: "Kids, did you eat the apple fritter?". The donuts are priced like donuts and are exactly like the donuts I grew up eating in the 90s: sweet, butter, not trying too hard, and fresh. The reason to go out of your way to Alameda is the owners- they are friendly and cheery on weekend mornings, they smile at my kids while they whine about not getting the big donut with M n Ms on it (as if the donut wasn't already more than a day's worth of sugar and fat for them), and they give me donut holes with my order (knowing that I actually love donuts but don't want to order any for myself because then I'd have to put it in MyFitnessPal.
