Courtyard Estates at Cedar Pointe in Pleasant Hills IA is a horrible facility. It honestly needs to…read morebe shut down. My mother lived there for four years until last week when she was kicked out. It used to be a much better place when they had a competent caring nurse that supervised care and put residents first. Since she left, the place went downhill fast. The manager Tina, doesn't care about residents, only the money they bring in. She has never addressed concerns about lack of staff, cleanliness of the facility, or any other basic care needs that have been brought to her attention. The nurse they now have Mary, is rarely around, lazy, and is an embarrassment to the nursing profession. They now hire anyone off the streets with no prior experience or knowledge of elder care and it shows. We had a camera in my mothers room, so we saw and heard more than they would want us to. My poor mother has dementia and is on Hospice care and Tina kicked her out during this COVID pandemic because we complained about my mother's room not being cleaned for three weeks. You would think with the virus spreading through these facilities, cleaning and disinfecting rooms would be happening more, not stop like it did. We heard that the housekeeper Sahli was afraid of getting the virus so she didn't want to go in residents rooms. Just so happens that Tina and Sahli are best of friends. We inquired about the lack of cleaning on a Tuesday and received the call on Thursday that my mother needed to leave. My mother's level of care hasn't changed in 9 months. Actually, her level of care was easier for staff because Hospice was coming in and helping with her. So this was nothing but a cruel, vindictive act carried out on our dying mother by Tina to get back at us because we dared to speak up about her best friend not doing her job. Who does this to a frail dying person? You can't imagine how horrible and sad this was for our family to scramble to find her a new place that would take her during this COVID scare. How hard the move was on my mother in her frail condition. She sees no familiar faces, and family can't visit. Luckily we did find another facility and they are taking wonderful care of her. But that doesn't erase what my mother was put through. We just heard today that this Courtyard now has a staff member that tested positive for the virus! Possibly due to the lack of cleaning and disinfecting? Or maybe Tina's lack of leadership and not enforcing staff to always be in masks, wearing gloves and turning away caregivers with temperatures? We may never know. All I know for sure....keep your loved ones away from this place!!

My parents and I just visited my grandmother and the bathroom was a disgusting mess. She can't…read moreremember to flush and she definitely cannot clean. The staff is supposed to take care of that and it isn't being done. The family will get together and decide what the facility needs to do to correct this

Do NOT place anyone you care for in this facility. I live in Arizona, and when I try to contact…read morethe facility about my aunt, there is NEVER anyone at the front desk to take my call - - doesn't matter what time of day I call. She's still pretty cogniscent, and aware, and she doesn't want to "make waves" by complaining about the food, the "non"-service, the non interaction between "care" (ha! ha!) givers and residents. As a gerontologist (B.A. San Diego State University), this concerns me greatly. I would say, "RUN", don't walk from this place. Seems as though they only want the money, and give NO real "service" other than than the minimum required by the law to keep their license. It's THIS kind of facility that give the "good ones" a really bad name. My mom is in a GREAT facility in San Diego, CA, at age 92. Although I had to move 7 hours away, the same care givers are there that know and love my mom, and know me when I call. I have NEVER had to leave a message where my mom lives (remember, I am 7 hours away in Arizona). I LOVE that I can call any time of any day and no matter who picks up the phone, they can tell me how my mom is, and what she's been up to. And the Activities Directory at her facility makes appointments for "Face Timing" with my mom. (remember, I'm talking about the difference between my experience with Homestead in Oceola, IA, VS the amazing care and attention my mom gets at "Steller Care" in San Diego, CA. Run, Run, Run and don't even attempt to call HOMSTEAD - - guessing if push the number to ask about the place, you'll get immediate connection. But once you're loved one is there, good luck with trying to get through and get any information!

Don't put your loved ones in the assisted living facility here unless you want them to be treated…read morelike animals. My mom was there for less than a month and had to be hospitalized for severe dehydration and also had severe oozing rash on her buttocks from being forced to sit in dirty adult diapers. She also lost 20 pounds in the 30 days she was there. They are currently under investigation.....apparently my mom was not an isolated case.
