Beautiful place. I wish I could say 100-% good things about this place unfortunately my experience was a disappointment. I feel I have experienced discrimination due to the lack of knowledgeable staff here. I was wrongfully told I was unable to volunteer due to a non existing background check that was never performed on behalf of Good Shepherd. I was set for a meeting at 130 PM on a Tuesday and was informed to not show up on that same day at 0900 AM via email in which I was unaware of The email until later that evening. (After the meeting) I met with Amy and proceeded with the meet and greet and tour of the facility. As Amy mentioned nothing about the email she posted at 0900 AM, she then decided "I will go forward with your background check." With the intent, I have decided to be a blessing elsewhere and to provide my volunteer services as I have been a volunteer with hospice on and off for the past 7 years. I do not feel as if the compassion, grace and kindness was presented here at Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan Kansas. read more

My father recently passed away after a lengthy illness and brief stay at the Hospice House. The entire staff went out of their way to ensure my father's comfort. He was treated with kindness, compassion and dignity. My family and I were given every courtesy, afforded privacy, and were treated as if we were a welcome guest in a private home. The hospice was clean, beautifully decorated, quiet and every effort was made to make family members welcome. The time we spent at Hospice House with my father was brief, however we were never rushed or made to feel like we were imposing; a fine group of professional and compassionate health professionals made my fathers last days bearable. read more

My mother just passed a week ago and her final week was spent at the Good Shepard Hospice House. It was a very difficult time for our family, and we could not have asked for better treatment and care for my mother during her final days. The nursing staff was attentive, kind, and answered all of our questions. They were sure to turn her every two hours, and spoke softly to her before touching her to be sure she knew what they were doing. They met her every need and mom was never in pain. The house itself was beautiful, private and quiet. Volunteers kept snacks and treats available to visitors and there many places to privately sit and rest or have a quiet conversation with a visitor. For such a heartbreaking time, the staff went out of their way to offer kindness, respect, and dignity to my mother and her family. I am happy to recommend such a special place to those who have to say good-bye to a loved one. It was such a positive experience for such a difficult transition. We could not have asked for anything more. read more
