We purchased partial drapes to soften the plantation shutters in the family room and matching Roman Shade over the kitchen window. We added shades that when open do not obstruct the view from the kitchen table. We also replaced old, ugly window coverings in the master bedroom/bath with beautiful updated plantation shutters. We also added a roller shade to the living room sliding door, again zero obstruction when the shade is open. Second purchase was more beautiful plantation shutters for guest bedrooms and dining room.
