La Sante Health Food Store in Dun Laoghaire Shopping Centre is filled top-to-toe with health foods,…read morevitamins and organic goodies. There is a really large range of products for the health and environmentally conscious. I was surprised to find organic hair dye and make up here, quite impressive!! The vitamins section is massive, as is the sports supplements section (energy concoctions and those crazy chocolate bars for muscle building - yes, I admit, I have NOOOOO idea about this stuff!) At the front of the store they have some kind of nutritionist or health advisor... we were too shy to approach her, but I'm sure it'd be helpful if you needed some advice. They have some great mueslis and their sunflower seeds are surprisingly inexpensive (I have a friend who's obsessed, so these things are noted!)

They also sell essentia water which is purified water and is the most alkalised water on the plannet and the sun warrior protein for building muscle, i use this myself as i'm a vegetarian and don't get enough protein in my diet and my husband makes a shake and drinks it every day while he works out and has now become very muscular since he started drinking it. They also do allergy tests which actually work, i got itchy eyes and swol;en eyes quite regularly and once had to go to hospital with my eyes because they were so swollen, they couldn't tell me what was wrong so i went to La Santé and schedueled an allergy test which is 40 euro for 40 mins and is done by Fintan who did the test on me and told me that i had really bad hay fever which i got from eating too much chocolate and dairy products or spending too long around dried grass or hay...etc and told me i was allergic to coffee aswell which i used to drink every morning and told me exactly what to get to help me and i got them and that was in february and i haven't gotten hay fever since. I love la santé and i shop in there every day xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

It gets busy on Sundays for the Farmers Market(11-4) which has a great and varied selection of food from all over. Can be a bit twee, but that goes with the territory at these things. It's not just restricted to food though, there are some cracking bookstalls and a few craft ones too. This is where I discovered Paulo Coelho, I'm in debt. Now, to business. Traditionally there are three days a year in which Dun Laoghaire stops hovering on the verge of crap and makes the great leap forward into being the greatest place in the world. The Festival of World Cultures, although it's just two days this year(29/30th Aug), is the best weekend in Dublin. Sun, sea, hippies, pints and banging samba drums all for free(except pints of course, but where there's a will...). It's pure awesome, and the Park is one of the festivals main hubs. Love it.

It boasts some cute little tearooms and one of the few Sunday farmers markets on the southside (though I'm open to correction on this one). There's a mellow buzz in the air during the market and even if you're not hungry, you're sure to snack on some of the fudge, falafel or fruit that the traders have to offer before leaving. Tends to be happy families in here on a sunny Sunday and there is often some impromptu entertainment in the offing too. It's picturesque and nautically themed with a boat overflowing with flowers at the entrance.

I vacation in Ireland every summer, staying in the next village over from Dun Laoghaire, Sandycove…read more(where Joyce Tower of Ulysses fame is located), and at least one visit to this Sunday market is always a must. A lovely setting, in The People's Park, near the waterfront of Dun Laoghaire. I do have to say, I think it was better years ago when there were more produce vendors and it was more of a farmers market. Now it is 90% prepared food stalls, a few artists, and only a couple of produce vendors. But the food is good and varied, with many ethnic goodies to try. There is an excellent cheese vendor (Irish cheeses are amazing!), a wood-fired Neopolitan pizza, and you are pretty close to the famous Teddy's of Dun Laoghaire ice cream shop to get your "99" fix. AH, MEMORIES: I remember one farmer was selling wine he made from his own grapes. Yes, Irish wine!!! Admittedly, the Sauvignon Blanc tasted like grape juice, but I still have the empty bottle with a lovely hand-colored label. My Mom had her first ever raw oyster (from Galway) here. I almost had to force it down her throat, but she loved it. The vendor no longer comes here, but every year when I visit her in Ireland we have to go out for some great Irish oysters. But she still eats only one!

There's always a great mix of people around the place, a really relaxed atmosphere and, the cherry on top for me, it's right beside the sea! The food selection here is great, you can find anything from Indian to Japanese and everything in between! The last time I was here I got an Italian-style Gourmet Sausage and a freshly made doughnut, both of which were absolutely delicious. We did have to queue for quite a while but it's so pleasant out here that nobody seems to mind. I could talk about this place all day but I'll only make myself hungry. Seriously, get yourself out there end eat yourself silly!!
