I'm grateful not only for my having had opportunities to serve at church and in the community but that our family has been able to serve the community at large. It's exciting that Browncroft continues to play a big role in Flower City Work Camp, providing an opportunity for adults and especially teens to serve in downtown Rochester! If you're looking for a church in the greater Rochester area, I hope you'll stop in some Sunday, wave to a parking lot attendant, be greeted by someone at the door, and hear a Gospel message!

No Church is perfect, but this church comes close…read more This church has a large congregation, the majority of which live in a 10 mile or so radius. There are many families with kids, college students, some single folks and retirees. However, it lacks racial diversity as many people in the area are white. Now that it's not something I normally include in a review, but with racial tensions high, it's only fair to include that fact. I judge people by their heart and character. Everything else is up to God. The people here have been over all fairly friendly to me, originally a Rochesterian transplanted to Pittsburgh for 18 years, who abruptly moved back last August (the ultimate in recycling). They have been welcoming and patient as I relearn my hometown. The welcoming committee is wonderful, making sure that I connected with some Ministries and introduced me to various people as they wandered through the lobby on the way to the cafe, the nursery, or the service, and made sure I was in a newcomers class. That was thoroughly enjoyable, as we had very diverse demographics, including a couple who moved here from Haiti. The church as a whole, encourages each person to become involved in a ministry, with many to choose from. I had my own ministries in prayer for EMS, police, fire fighters, etc., and for the homeless, that I started in Pittsburgh, and brought to Rochester. But I'm also involved in the Thursday night ladies prayer group. My group is exceptionally kind and welcoming. There are prayer groups every day of the week, for everybody: men, women, young adults, singles, college students, older adults, married couples, etc. They also hold an annual open house of sorts, where they have a large room setup for different groups with representatives, tables and literature so you can come and talk to each group facilitator and decide which one is best for you. You are also welcome to start your own group. Their support for this is great. The service format is as follows. They start with songs of praise with a really talented, energetic praise and worship team. This is followed by preaching by the lead pastor, a native Rochesterian. Pastor Rob Cattalani is a gifted speaker, and thoroughly knowledgeable about the Bible, and it's practical application to everyday life. It is truly a joy to hear him speak. He is an animated and engaging speaker, and very personable when you meet him. He's the kind of person that I would like to discuss Calvinism V Perfectionism V Determinism, for instance, over coffee (few would be jazzed by that discussion). He's a rare combination of ability to preach and to teach. They have an active and wonderful Child Care & Nursery, staffed by trained volunteers, usually parents, college students and retirees. Everyone has been thoroughly vetted for child abuse clearances. There are groups for older adults, young professionals, high school and for college students as well as young children. The church is still, however, relying heavily on video conferencing until it is safe for everyone to meet in person. Still, it doesn't seem to be a challenge. This congregation, which has been in existence for over 30 years, seems to be a very tight-knit, but welcoming group. It's a blessing to be in their midst.

From the get go she was scattered in her thinking and sent random emails asking for info and paperwork I had previously provided her with. The dress rehearsal was a mess. This wedding coordinator made us start in the middle of the ceremony, then proceed to the end. THEN we got to practice the beginning. What is with that??? The day of the wedding was a disaster to put it lightly. Im walking down the isle and this "wedding coordinator" never remembered to bring the GROOM, Best man, and Reverend out from the back waiting room. Clearly this was part of the rehearsal the night before. He missed me walking down the isle as well as his mother and granmother. Needless to say, I spent the whole night listening to people tell me that they thought I was being left at the altar. Thank you wedding coordinator, thank you! I did contact this woman after the fact to tell her I was unhappy with her services. She said, "had she known that it was a priority that my husband be there when I walk down the isle she would had made it happen". WHAT!?!?!?!?!?!? I give 2 star because this Church is absolutely beautiful , and the church secretary was super sweet and accommodating. Also, they have a nice "library" with fireplace if you want to book that too in case of rain for your photos etc. Lastly, one side of the church has all original Tiffany windows that let the natural light in! I was saved in 2023 after years of believing in other false ideologies. Since 2024, and currently, I've been letting the Holy Spirit lead me to a solid church for baptism. Not something to rush into, I sought out Grace Road initially for baptism, but missed their last baptism Sunday. Pastor Dan W connected with me after emailing them and helped approve me for a financial need through their care ministry. He and the church staff also prayed for me last Wednesday (12/17/25) after submitting a prayer request for things God has me in right now. Without even having attended in person, and without even meeting me personally, Grace Road has welcomed me with open arms and prayer. I intend to keep tuning in online and hope to be able to tithe to their church. I trust the Lord will move in me when it comes a day for my children and I to visit the church first hand. It just is difficult with little familial support and being a single mom with small children/also trusting strangers to care for them.

Sacred Heart Cathedral is the only designated site for Jubilee Year 2025 declared by Pope Francis in the Diocese of Rochester, New York. The Cathedral's ceiling depicts the night sky on the day of the Diocese founding on March 3, 1868, which adds a unique piece of history when the Cathedral was renovated in 2005. The 16 angels atop the trusses and beautifully painted adds to the interior of the Gothic Revival architecture structure. The prominent Opus 26 pipe organ in the aspe behind the sanctuary is encompassed by ornate carved wood. I remained for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass at the Saturday Vigil after confession. However the modern individual seating in place of traditional pews seems out of place for the 1927 church and the distribution of communion using 2 individual kneelers seemed odd in place of a traditional communion rail. All in all, my experience attending Sacred Heart Cathedral was positive. The priest's message was enlightening and left absolved and a better follower of the faith. I look forward to a return visit when in Rochester, New York.
