Holy Name is the Catholic Cathedral for the Diocese of Chicago. It's beautiful and majestic inside accentuated by the high dark wood ceilings it has. After Mass a short tour was offered when they explained that this church has been the victim of at least two fires including the Great Chicago Fire. The organ here is also beautiful. All I can say is that when they rebuilt it each time they did it right. The older churches are almost always grandeur than the newer ones.

This beautiful historic cathedral is impressive on many levels. The ceiling has to be seen to be believed. The architecture is very excellent. If you like historic church's this place should be on your list

Beautiful church with consistently good homilies and music. Welcoming environment to pray and encounter Christ.

Sunday Mass at Holy Name Cathedral offers a reverent and vibrant celebration with impressive music and a thought-provoking homily . The atmosphere is enhanced by the beautiful architecture, and the congregation actively participates in the liturgy . If you're unable to attend in person, the Mass is broadcasted on ABC

Absolutely stunning grandiose architecture in the heart of River North neighborhood! Even more amazing to see from the inside in all of its glory. Attended the Christmas Evening mass and it was a truly beautiful traditional Catholic Service. Everything from the choir of angels, to the harpist and pipe organs to the practical sermon had me feeling the magnificence of the season resonating within me. Kudos to all those who give ooodles of their time to make music so powerful. You don't have to be a baptized Catholic to step foot inside for a curious peek... but if you are, you will appreciate how welcoming the ushers are in finding you a seat. One note of etiquette: it's really not okay in the eyes of the church to take photos during a religious service so all of my pictures are taken during their Christmas carols prior to the service beginning or on my way out of the Cathedral.

FYI-The Beautiful Nativity Scene outside the Cathedral on the side street is up and very comforting for prayer morning, noon, or night! Thank you for bringing peace and comfort Holy Name Cathedral Parish during these very challenging times. PS-There is a program on their web site where you can submit your own home Nativity Scene Picture to share. See: https://holyname.ccbchurch.com/goto/forms/154/responses/new

No matter your religious beliefs or lack their of .. i enjoy beautiful architecture.. stained glass. THE ceiling alone is gorgeous. Just a beautiful place. We spent the weekend in Chicago so i took a chance it might be open. We happened by on a Saturday evening and went in. Only couple people in there. I try not to disrupt those there to for spiritual reasons.

Is it OK to give a church anything less than 5 stars? Whether it's ok or not this GORGEOUS church definitely earns it's 5 star rating. My friend, Elizabeth, had her wedding ceremony here yesterday. Apparently there was a major construction issue with the roof about 6 months ago and they had to move all their weddings to other churches. Elizabeth got super lucky though because the church reopened just a few weeks before her wedding! And after staring at all the ornate details for about an hour I can see why she had her heart set on this breathtaking church, which looks like it belongs in Europe instead of on State Street...

We only had a few minuets to duck in but it takes your breath away how beautiful it is inside. Even if you are not catholic, it is still checking out.

This place is huge and spacious and has normal mass times. From the inside to the outside, the architecture of this building is beautiful and is as good as it gets. It's also located in a convenient location, being on the near north side, only steps away from the Chicago Red Line stop. There are also lots of things nearby if you're waiting for service to start or want to go somewhere after. There are numerous brunch places nearby and the Hancock building is only a few blocks east.

Beautiful church with beautiful people. I came here on Easter Sunday for a one hour church @5:15 ceremony. It was Easter so it was full house. The church is very big. Beautiful decor inside. I don't know how parking works here because I took a taxi from the hotel to go here. It is located on downtown next to a liquor store and many other small vendors. Everyone was nice and welcome here.

The towering Gothic Revival architecture in downtown Chicago is the seat of the Archdiocese of Chicago, one of the largest Roman Catholic dioceses in the United States. The sanctuary is open all day for anyone to go in to pray or simply sit quietly. It's a very solemn, reverent, peaceful atmosphere.

We flew to Chicago to attend the second annual Christmas concert. Reverend Sakowicz is such a blessing in admiration to fulfill Gods place in such a historical cathedral. The orchestrated event filled with singers from around the world performed Christmas music filled with memories we all share. Thank you Michele for helping two of Gods believers experience this event in such short notice.

Ask the Community - Holy Name Cathedral Parish

Will there be a midnight Mass Christmas 2022?

    Yes

Looking forward to attending Easter Mass at Holy Name Cathedral. What time should be get there before the 11:15 mass to get seated in the church?

I'd honestly get there as soon as the previous mass is getting out. But there should be overflow seating on Easter & the 10:30 AM Sunday mass is live-streamed.

Will there be a Midnight Mass Christmas Eve?

    Yes

We are in Chicago for weekend and want to attend Easter Mass. Which priest gives best homily and which Mass has the best music? Thks

There is music at every service on Easter even 7am. Homily preference is subjective but IMHO they're all good, just different.

What we discovered was so much more. UVC goes by the motto of being 'BOLD' (boldly rooted in the Gospel message of Jesus Christ), 'INCLUSIVE' (radically affirming of LGBTQ folks, striving to be an anti-racist church, and working toward all other areas of inclusivity and diversity equity), and 'RELEVANT' (living into our faith all week long, not just on Sundays). This motto is beautiful and helps my husband and I live into the lives we want to be. In fact, it was this very community that married us and has been with us through thick and thin. Pastor Hannah is an absolute gem, bringing engaging/powerful messages that are relevant to our current context in Chicago/USA/world! UVC lives their mission of being bold, inclusive, and relevant by doing work in the local communities, and providing interactive ways to learn and give back during Black History Month, Pride Month, etc. with history walks and celebrations and hearing stories from the community lifted up. I've especially loved Pastor D'Angelo's creativity when it comes to services and community-building at Wicker Park; we've had breakout discussion groups during the service, creative use of the stage setup and props, we've heard testimonies, and listened to music together, and even ended the sermon early for a surprise coffee hour when Pastor D said "You know what? I can preach about community, or we can go do it right now," recognizing that coming out of the pandemic many of us don't know each other and haven't had real conversations together. Those conversations and laughter were much needed.

It's inspiring to see a church that remains faithful to the gospel and encourages its congregation to live and love like Jesus. I have been deeply and meaningfully encouraged by each service I attend. The pastors are anointed to deliver the freedom that only comes through Christ, and they humbly encourage personal insight into how God wants to speak to you as an individual. Attend if you are ready to be challenged to put your cares at the feet of Jesus and let him minister to your soul. The music is world class. These musicians aren't simply "song leaders", they exude an attitude of worship and joy that invites a connection with a Holy God that is intimate, and it prepares your heart to listen. If I miss a Sunday, I feel like something is missing, like I haven't been home in a while. When I was going through intense grief, the church was the body of Christ that came around me, prayed for me, took care of me and supported me in every way a church in the Bible was meant to be like. I am forever grateful they got me through that traumatic time. During a time of confusion within the church, the elders took time to meet people, answer questions, was transparent and vulnerable. It helped me build trust with them and brought me closer to God in those times. Their service involve worship, and sermons that are based on reading chapters from scripture. We go through books of the Bible. Right now we are reading the book of Luke and it will take us two years to complete it. The pastors and elders are so friendly, and are available to you. They try to meet everyone, but it's also welcomed for you to introduce yourself to them. There are many deacons at the end of service who are available to take prayer requests and will pray for you on the spot. There are also many resources available for new believers and many different ministries: Alpha, Loop Kids Ministries, small groups, Global Ministries, discipleship classes, Three Twelve: ministry for people in their 20's and 30's, retreats, evangelizing, and so much more. Every church is not perfect and will have their flaws. It's okay to go church hopping for a while, but this church is worth checking out, and if you have any questions, go to guest services or go up to a church leader. You are welcome here! :)

We currently meet at 15 campuses in and around the city of Chicago. It is a multi-generational and multi-ethnic congregation. The people I've met here are really friendly and passionate for God. People are not as dressy as they are at a lot of churches which I like. Jeans/t-shirt are fairly common. This location's senior pastor, Asa App, is solid and has a deep love for the Lord and passion for people. He's very real and dynamic in his talks and speaks Scripture. Pastor Asa is truly a man of God with passion, energy and love that can only be from living and loving the Lord.
