I think it's an absolute must-visit if you're in Gothenburg--Ahlström Café is truly something…read morespecial. Stepping inside feels like stepping back in time, almost as if the last century never ended. Servers wear old fashion dresses and happily servers you. The atmosphere is so authentic and untouched, it's like a hidden pocket of history in the middle of the city.
The baked goods are among the best I've had in Gothenburg. The menu features all the traditional cakes, sandwiches, and buns you'd hope for in a classic Swedish café. The cinnamon roll in particular, paired with a cup of coffee served in delicate porcelain cups, brought a deep sense of nostalgia and calm--a moment of stillness before heading back into the bustle of town.
That said, the space is quite tight and narrow, both inside and around the café. I wouldn't recommend it for backpackers or families with strollers--there just isn't the room. Even the two tiny bathrooms feel like they belong in a dollhouse.
But that's all part of the charm. If you're after a quiet, old-world café experience, Ahlström is an absolute gem.
