Clean and safe restroom and gas station, the gentleman at the front was kind, decent selection of snacks and very cool interior. Worth stopping when in the area!

It's a convenience store located behind a gas station. What makes this place interesting is the shape. It really looks like a dirt mountain. Before you reach this place, you are going to see a few real dirt mountains around the area. They did a really good job on making this look just like the other real dirt mountains in the area. The store has souvenirs, t-shirts, dry beef, oil for your car, and other gas station things. The attendant is pleasant and friendly. I think it's a good place to stop and take pictures.

a gas station in the desert

Over the years, I've bought gas at Hollow Mountain at least half a dozen times. It was always before sunrise when the store hadn't yet opened for the day. Fortunately, this last visit was in the early afternoon. After pumping my gas, I eagerly went into the store nestled into the rock of this mountain. It's all mountain on the outside and all convenience store on the inside. I got a few drinks and a La Michoacana paleta! (These are some of the best popsicles you can eat). If you're going to pump gas in Hanksville, are you really going to go one that isn't a mountain? No, of course you're not. Don't forget to buy a paleta, too.

It's a gas station you want to go inside. Driving 121 miles from Blanding in US 95 Scenic Byway north bound, Hanksville is the first sign of civilization. This gas station was on my right and I really needed to use a restroom. From outside, I didn't know what to expect. At first glance, it didn't look much and I wasn't sure if they even had a restroom inside there. This whole store is nestled inside the mountain/huge rocks. Walking towards the back to use their restroom, you can tell that you are inside the rock mountain. Restroom was very clean with flushing water, they had 3 or 4 for women. Staff was very friendly. She greeted me as soon as I walked in with friendly smile. They have standard gas station stuff on sale. I ended up buying Pringle's chips. I carefully checked for expiration date but they were fine. I wasn't sure as how little people drive here, I wanted to check food they sell are not expired. Price was a bit higher than ones you see at any city gas station but considering how far away they are from large cities, I suppose they are reasonable. They have a few other gas stations in Hanksville but this one is the only one looking so unique. If you are in Hanksville, stop by and check out the inside the gas station!

$6.66 for a 2.5 gallon jug!!

Filled up on diesel at a decent price ($2.57) but paid nearly $7 for a 2.5 gallon jug of water!! I guess this is the desert.... but still over priced! Water is more than diesel... idk if I should be mad... or just amused. Lol

This is a really cool gas and groceries on your path to Lake Powell. It has been my spot for Ice cream, and snacks and gas of course. This store is built right into the rock and kids love it. Clean bathrooms and very helpful staff if you're lost.

If you're looking to take a pit stop under a mountain... jackpot. Built into a sandstone cliff, Hollow Mountain is a unique stop-off on your way to your destination (since no one's destination is actually Hanksville). Restrooms: clean People: nice Coke Zero: negative Other stuff to buy: limited If you have your heart set on a specific snack look elsewhere. This place attracts because it's built inside a damn mountain, not because of the merchandise.

Hollow Mountain in Hanksville is super unusual because it is built into the mountain! Yes, true to its name. They burrowed in and built a convenience store in here. The only other one I know of is outside of Moab and it is more of a touristy place with tours. Hollow Mountain in Hanksville serves up a great selection of local books on the region, t-shirts and gifts, and lots of cold drinks and fountain sodas as well as beer. There are snacks and sweets and smokes. You can fuel up outside at one of their many pumps. The best part about Hollow Mountain are the bathrooms: go there and you will see the rock of the mountain. It's when you truly realize you are inside a mountain. This is cool, my friends. Outside, you can climb up the mountain and get a nice view of the little town of Hanksville. There's a couple of old firetrucks near the hill and a mailbox that stands unusually high up in the sky. Worth your time to stop by when you're in Hanksville. Plus you will probably want to get gas in town anyway.

This is a gas station with the usual store for snacks in a cave. Other than being in a cave, it's pretty standard.
