Based on the price of this property, the menu and food quality should be excellent but sadly it is not. The set menu each day is filled with fats and dairy, poorly prepared, and ingredients are very low quality. As an example, what was to be an egg salad sandwich was actually left over scrambled eggs from breakfast and stale bread. Requests to add lactose free options have been ignored. If they want to attract more residents and keep the ones they have, they need to improve the food. Front desk staff is very nice and accommodating but these major issues need to be addressed.

Their gym&dining room are bright&airy, there is a cheerful air to the place, and they keep the activities schedule full. Back in the day, a Buddhist meditation group once met in one of their upstairs rooms. It was a perfect spot to focus on one's breath&seek enlightenment. There is good signage, and everything is kept accessible. While the street parking can be a challenge, they have ample parking for residents. For a retirement home beside a busy hospital&athletic center, they are quiet&peaceful. It has springtime warmth among the residents&staff, even in the cold midwinter.

Not knowing the first thing about these facilities, I reached out to Alan Brauner at Senior Seasons. I can't even begin to explain how helpful he was. He listened to our situation, provided me with insight and contact information on the local facilities, explained what I needed to know, and what to consider when reaching out to these prospective places. His advice was invaluable. He was always there for me, whenever I had questions. He was super responsive, emailing back or calling right away. And through this process my mom kept changing her mind about where she wanted to live (mid-peninsula near her friends, south bay near me), and so our requirements kept changing. Through it all Alan was patient and positive - something I really needed during this stressful time. I seriously have no idea how I would have handled this whole situation without him. I highly recommend Alan and Senior Seasons.

She got pneumonia. 5 days before she left, I told them I thought she had pneumonia because of her labored and crackling sound in her breathing. A nurse listened to her lungs and said no it's just the flu. 5 days passed and she was heading downhill fast. The Kaiser doctor who doesn't not work at Napa post acute, examined her and said yes it's pneumonia and rushed her to Kaiser. Thank god she made it. 2 days before pneumonia, the nurse took her to the restroom, left her in there without locking the wheels to her wheelchair. She fell. There is a sign posted in the restroom saying not to forget to lock the wheels. How can a facility post a sign and the employees not comply? Negligence. I will add the pic in this post. Overall this place is dreary place that smells of urine and feces. The one bright spot was,I believe to be a CNA, named Cody. He was the best thing this place had to offer. Helpful and attentive when he was on shift. The nurses were dismissive and inattentive. The doctor only comes to see patients once a week. How can one doctor be expected to see every patient? Once a week isn't enough.

I sometimes become skeptical over Yelp reviews wondering who is actually writing them. What I'm…read moreabout to write is from the heart and if anything, I've understated the facts. If you have ever had to go through the process of finding suitable care for a loved one then you already know what a nightmare that can be. Their are facility owners who highly exaggerate their level of care, unqualified staff and unsuitable living conditions not to mention abuse. After several disastrous and dangerous attempts at placements for my Great Aunt and Mother, God blessed our family with Genesis Care Home for The Elderly in Vallejo. My Great Aunt was in her late 90's and my Mother suffered from Vascular Dementia. We had removed them from an unsuitable care facility and moved them right into Genesis Care Home after just one meeting with Sharon, the owner. After what my Mom and Aunt had been through, I was very direct in telling Sharon what level of care we were looking for and Sharon was equally honest and forthcoming about the level of care she provided and her philosophy on the care for the elderly. Let me start with the word Compassion. No matter how disoriented, difficult or delusional my mother or aunt became, the entire staff always remained compassionate, respectful and loving. The staff came into their rooms with a smile and spent many hours just laughing and talking with them. They took the time to ask them questions about their lives and treated them like family. My Mom even gave them each nicknames. We are a very large family who would drop by all the time unannounced and always Mom and Auntie were clean, bathed and very well fed. The food that was prepared for them was spectacular....and I'm a retired Caterer! Anytime of the day, the residents can help themselves to snacks or fresh fruit. During the Holidays and their birthdays the spread they put out is unbelievable and all family members are not only welcomed but encouraged to stay and join in. Genesis actually took the time to find out what my Moms favorite foods and T.V. programs were and made sure both were provided. The staff regularly took the time to call and express their concerns over medications, behavioral changes or their general happiness and comfort so as a team, we could make whatever adjustments were necessary to make their daily lives better. Both my Aunt and Mom have passed now, but I will continue to stop by for a visit to Genesis Care Home, to visit this very special place, and this group of phenomenal ladies. I am forever grateful, Diana A.
