There's lots of restaurants, and easy transit to anywhere in the city with all the public transit spots that take off within the block from here. The hotel itself was alright. It wasn't very quiet- since it's so centrally located, you could hear all the hustle and bustle from the street below. But it had comfortable beds, a nice television and a decent bathroom. The rooms were clean, and had a mini-bar, for high prices. The television had many English channels, including Russia Today, which was nice. The best thing about this hotel was the breakfast, hands down. They had an extensive bread bar, with pretzels, loaves of rye, croissants- tons of carbs. The meats were delicious- thinly sliced savory salamis and hams. They also had lots of options for coffee- with a machine that churned out lattes and cappuccinos. The spread was amazing. They had a few free newspapers sitting out, but none of them were in English. The staff was friendly and fast with getting the old plates out of the way and bringing out fresh food. The breakfast here rocks. The only real drawback about this place was the one singular elevator that took forever to get anywhere. It was tiny and cramped. But the building looks pretty old- they have pictures of what it used to look like before it was all remodeled/rebuilt.

Just a short walk from the Marienplatz, you can easily and speedily train in from the airport. The hotel's spare, vaguely Japanese design appeals - think hardwood floors, muted colours, no superfluous object cluttering up otherwise open space - and so many of the little touches are ones I love like lavender-scented sleep spray next to your bed to spritz on your sheets, a terrific tea menu and an ambient music soundtrack that has twice helped me focus and power through work. The well-trained staff is attentive to your needs, whether they be for a classic cocktail in the lobby or internet access in your room. When I had trouble connecting to the wireless, someone was dispatched to upstairs with a CAT5 cable quicker than I could restart my MacBook! And unlike many hotels, the internets here are free (the way they should be!)

I was there on business (coming from vacation) and the airline had conveniently lost my bags. Joy. That said, I was checked in quickly and efficiently, handed a toothbrush and toothpaste by the sympathetic Front Desk and also told something about my key card -- to which I smiled and nodded (lost in translation). Upon getting to my room, I soon realized they had been telling me that my key card actually turns on the lights in my room. After several (OK, 10 minutes), of trying to figure out how, I located the thing-a-mig-jiggy by the door (technical term) and inserted my card: voila! Lights! The room itself is sparse, but has all your needs: nice bed, view of beautiful Munich, TV, cupboards, Free Internet (albeit very temperamental) and best of all: lavender sheet spray! I never figured out how to use the rain shower head, but did just fine with the other one that's in there. Hopefully future guests will have better luck. But best of all? The service AND the bar. After having many an expertly mixed cocktail in the hotel bar with my colleagues, I toddled myself over to the Front Desk in a borrowed sweater to inquire if my bag arrived. The (again) sympathetic chap said it hadn't arrived, but if I wanted, he would bring it up to me as soon as it did no matter what time. I eagerly nodded, fearing the worst: I would be arriving to my morning's meetings in sandals. But sure enough, at 4am I opened my door to see my waiting bag. Let's just say it was like Christmas had come early! After going that extra mile, the staff, convenient and beautiful location and clean interior would definitely have me excited to stay at Louis Hotel again. Let's just hope my bags come with me next time!

The room I had was a little dated but I did notice that one of my co-workers had a room that must have been recently updated. As with any hotel near the central train station, the area can be a little questionable. It still feels safe but I would suggest that single women or families not stay in this area unless you do not mind casinos, strip clubs and drunks. Overall, this was a nice hotel for the price and the location. I would stay here again. Do not expect this to be a 3-4 star hotel as you would see in the US. I think this would be more of a 2-3 star US hotel.

We requested parking here and it is pretty typical tight, underground parking for downtown Munich. I mean you don't know what you need for these types of things if the staff doesn't explain or provide you the tools (parking card). The rooms are quite small and felt to us like a cruise ship style cabin which is ok for us since we typically lodge to sleep and shower not have an "experience". I don't think we ever figured out the air conditioning controls or if they even had air, we ended up opening our room window on the 7th floor for air. Also given that Munich transport system has a ticket that covers all modes of transport, bus, trams and trains within zones all day for a fixed price, we could easily go all the way to Dachau. The rooms were small and compact, and they definitely could have used more storage space as we had to struggle to find places to put our clothes in as we unpacked. But the hotel is definitely utilitarian. Although the maid never came to clean out our rooms in all the 3 nights we spent there, the facilities are very minimal yet adequate. I also appreciate that they use organic soaps and shampoos. I would see it a bit overpriced for the budget hotel image they want to give, or at least that was my impression, because if they were going for Zen, they failed quite miserably. But like I said, they were adequate and conveniently located and I would happily stay here again.
