I stayed at the Hofgut Sternen as part of a Trafalgar tour group on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. It was an especially hot day, 98 degrees F. We were told the rooms did not have air conditioning, but we could open the windows for a breeze. Bugs wouldn't be a problem because they plant geraniums in window boxes that repel bugs. My room was on the 3rd floor of the main building. When I walked into my room it was SO hot I almost passed out. The heat immediately made me nauseous. I opened the 2 large windows, but it didn't help much since the roof overhang mostly blocked the windows and kept any breeze from entering. Also, there were no window boxes filled with geraniums outside. There were also NO screens on the windows and no ceiling fan in the room. I asked the front desk for and received a fan for my room. Before going to bed, I took a cool shower to combat the heat, however I was soon lying in bed in a puddle of sweat. The fan did little to help with the heat. Before long, I was swarmed with bugs that I had to swat away ALL NIGHT LONG. It was NOT a restful night. If the hotel is not going to install air conditioning, the very LEAST it could do is put screens on the windows and install a ceiling fan in every room. Sweating and battling bugs crawling on me all night is NOT the way I want to spend my vacation! read more
