The Hockley Flyover Show is a day long free festival underneath (surprisingly enough) a fly over in Hockley. I attended last years' event, a week or so after the riots that had such a devastating affect in Birmingham and many other cities in England . You'd of expected such an event to be tense, with a bad atmosphere. However I was pleased to find that the event had a great community feel, with graffiti displays, breakdancing and great food on offer as well as the musical line up being excellent. The head liner (Akala) was a particularly inspired choice, with his hard hitting socially aware hip hop fitting the times perfectly.
The line up for this year's Flyover Show (booked for Saturday 11th August) has yet to be announced, but going on the pedigree of previous years (Ms Dynamite, Omar and Goldie, to name but a few) you'll be in for a treat. If you're anyway into "urban" music, you'd be a fool not to go, and even if you're not, why not go and support this brilliant community effort? read more
