"Fachhochschule" is something like a university but more practice oriented. The first 3 semesters you have a lot of theory, but the 4th semester is where you have to do an internship at some company. So you have a better idea how the business works, compared to university students who sit in the lab all day. In the 5th and 6th semesters you also have some theory, but also small real-world projects. So it's not boring at all. 7th semester is internship again and then the 8th semester is when you do your thesis normally.
The Fachhochschule Aalen itself is a nice place to study. They recently built a new campus, so everything is new and shiny. The library is OK, but most of the IT books are outdated. You can of course order the books you want, and maybe they'll buy it. The cafeteria is opened from 12.30 to 14.00. You can have a good meal for 2,30 EUR, which is very cheap (probably not for the students). And the professors are all smart and competent, with exceptions of course. ;)
I think that you will have a very good time studying in Aalen. I don't regret that I did. read more
