Awesome dim sum! Best I've ever had. Everything was so fresh and will come here again.

To be real with you, if you want authentic quality dim sum, then I'd recommend places elsewhere with the carts rolling around just so that you can have a fun experience of picking and being surprised with what each cart has inside their covers(ex: Ocean Palace or Fung's Kitchen). In addition, the quality you find in places like that are incredibly different and more upscale than places like this. However, why do I always come back here? Whenever I get hangry it gets real nasty and I want food asap. This is a small place, but you can expect the wait to be minimal because once you place your order, the food gets to your table in about 5-10 minutes. But of course, there are a few hits and misses with the quality and taste of certain orders here. But here are my go to faves (aside from the spare ribs): The chicken feet. It never disappoints and the feet are incredibly HUGE. And I like it solid and whole. Some places I've seen break it halves in their order but NO. Give me the whole thing, sis. My bf really likes the gailan as a palette cleanser and it comes with hoisin sauce; it's definitely refreshing to combat the grease of other things. He also says the spare ribs are good. The shu mai are decent. It's more of a placeholder for my craving of better shu mai, but it'll do. The pork is not as chewy as I prefer it to be. It's more mushy here. My last TOP 2 FAVES here are the ha cao and the shrimp steamed rice noodles. The shrimp here is good you guys. I approve. The ha cao is really good and the skin is really soft and chewy. The rice noodle is also really good. This time they oversteamed it a little bit, but not too much that makes me dislike it. Overall, def a goto for a quick in and out when you're hangry or hungover. I didn't think it was possible to be disappointed in a dim sum place-- I always thought dim sum is delicious in any setting -- yet here we are :( We came in on New Years Day after Fung's Kitchen had told us there was a 30 minute wait there. We called ahead and HK told us there was 0 mins wait for 2 people and we could be seated immediately. We walk in and omg, the line was out the DOOR. The waitlist had 7 parties in front of us. False advertising much??? We cut our losses and agree to wait. 30 minutes later, we are finally seated and end up still having to share a table with another party of 2 because the entire space is so cramped and most likely violating every fire hazard imaginable lol. We ordered ha cao, birds' nest shrimp balls, steamed barbecue pork buns, and shu mai. Everything came out one by one, yet everything was cold and bland??? There's no flavor when you bite in, yet, a weird aftertaste I can't put my hand on. The steamed barbecue pork buns were the most disappointing I've ever had, and almost had this strange consistency and artificial bright orange color that didn't taste like pork, more like a tangy sugar??? Luckily we knew when we were done, and our check came out to be less than $20 for 4 servings for 2 people. Prices are fair, service is fine, but food leaves something to be desired. read more

Haven't had Dim Sum in a long time, this place is usually packed when I used to visit often. For some reason it was sort of empty on a Saturday afternoon. The food was really good but they took forever to bring us our next dishes. We were two dishes in when my husband was still waiting for his bowl of rice and we were done w/our plates by the time the chow fun came out. This is usually my go-to for dim sum, but there were a few "hiccups" this time. First of all. The service was slow. I had to flag down the server to place my order instead of them checking on me after I had been sitting there for over 10 minutes. I ordered my regular stuff - shrimp dumplings (delicious), shrimp roll (the shrimp tasted like it had been frozen and not fresh at all), sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf (sour/spoiled - we had to send it back), cai Lan (you can't go wrong with that since it's just steamed), fried shrimp w/mayonnaise (my fave of the bunch), and fried turnip (a little too dough-y this time). Not really sure what happened to this place over the years. Our experience was very subpar. The only good dish was the shumai. The fried bread was too hard and gross. The rice rolls were too soft and we found clear wrap in it!! The fried taro puff was hard and tasted like it was fried twice. The shrimp dumpling had holes in it. Overall, very bad experience. Pricing is about the same as the typical dimsum you find. $2.99 for small plates, $3.99 for medium plates, and $4.99 for large plates. I got 4 dimsum plates and a stir fried beef noodle and total came out to be almost $28 before tax. Bathroom looks kind of dirty but I came for the food so it's negligent.Food was really good and I felt that the dimsum pieces were considerably large! Would come back again for my dimsum fix. Update: 7/19 Maybe because of COVID, they're extra busy with take out on top of spaced out dine-in. There was no greeting and I waited at least 5 min before someone even acknowledged me even though I was standing in front of the cashier to place my to-go order. I really hate updating my review to a worse one since my first experience way back was really great. But take-out dimsum just doesn't quite cut it! Food tasted a little weird to me, NOT fresh at all. Is this the best Dim Sum I've had? No, I've definitely had better. Is this my preferred style of Dim Sum? No, I would prefer push cart style. BUT, that being said, what if you happen to be craving Dim Sum at say 8 or 9pm at night? Then I would say you should drop by this place. Because frankly, the number of places that serve Dim Sum at night is very limited. The number of places that serve decent quality Dim Sum at night is even less. Now, you're not coming here for outstanding and friendly customer service. You are also not coming here for 3 Michelin star cleanliness or dish plating. Worse dim sum place I ever had. Food - old and not fresh at all. For instance, the simple sesame ball had sour-tasting red bean filling, and the rice sesame shell outside was hard as a rock, suggesting it was reheated. Came in here with good intentions, trying to go outside my comfort zone and favorite dim sum place to try something new.. but man did I regret that decision. We ordered a series of dim sum items like: chicken feet, beef dumplings, pan fried taro cake, shrimp wonton Mayo, etc. The food here is okay. At first I thought the texture of some of the food was too mushy and the taste was either too bland or salty. The beef dumpling however, we could not finish our one piece and just stopped eating from there. I would've given it at best 2 stars but after a few minutes of walking around, all the food I ate hit me and I had to rush to a bathroom. It's a pretty casual, standard dim sum joint. There are a ton of options for dim sum in the area, and HK Dim Sum is a solid place. It's not the best dim sum I've ever had but it's better than average. It's a relatively small restaurant, so if you go during peak times, keep this in mind. When you sit down, they'll give you a sheet to write your orders on and a menu for those of you who aren't too familiar with dim sum food. My favorite dim sum dishes are always the fried turnip cakes, fried taro balls with meat inside, xiu mai, har gow, chicken feet, and the egg custards. Mind my spelling, I've never really had to spell these out very often. The turnip cakes were okay, but there wasn't a ton of the shrimp or sausage flavor through it. The texture is on point though. The taro poofs, as I like to call them, were fluffy and crunchy on the outside & soft on the inside. It's not too oily and the flavor is alright. There is a ton of shrimp packed I side each har gow, and I honestly don't know how they can stuff these things with so much filling. The wrapper itself broke apart really easily, but overall it's not too bad. Overall, it's a solid choice when you're craving dim sum. It's not the best I've ever had (that's reserved for good mon kok in SF), but it definitely hits the spot. There's a lot of option, and it's better than most places! read more

This used to be one of my favorites but it has slowly been letting me down. Just like most restaurants, they have certain items that shine and some that disappoint. My favorites are the xiu mai and fried shrimp dumpling (great mayo with it). This sums it up for me here. Everything else is average. The steam wrapper for the ha cao and rice rolls are a little thick for my taste. My most recent experience here, I ordered pan fried tofu skin roll. They completely burned on side and tried to hide it. I took a bit and all I could taste was the burnt flavor. When I showed the server he was like "ok and". Like I wasn't expecting great customer service because this is ok Chinatown. But I expected a replacement of the dish or just return it. I don't even know why they sent out a completely burnt item. The price here is a little higher than other dim sum restaurants. So for the inconsistency, small restaurant, not clean atmosphere, it's not worth it anymore for me. read more

Came here while on a trip in Houston with friends. We were starving and looking for a place to have dinner. They were still one hour before closing but they weren't very happy that we walked in. The service was poor but the food still came out quickly and tasted delicious. Their food items actually tasted great and were delicious dim sum. It was awesome because we were having dim sum for dinner. Most dim sum places are only open for breakfast and lunch. I gave them a 3/5, only because of their service. They seemed unhappy that we walked in and then they rushed us to finish. They were waiting around close by for us to finish eating and were cleaning up as we were still eating. Then they hurriedly gave us the bill and waited for us to pay. And it's not like we were taking our time to eat, we tried to finish quickly. And there was still 15 minutes before closing by the time we were done. If you're looking for amazing service, this might not be the top place. Especially not for dinner time. read more

This is a very nice, casual dimsum restaurant in Bellaire. When I want to eat dim sum from the cart, then I find another place but when I just want to sit down and order, HK Dimsum is the place I go to. My favorite is the pork-shrimp shumai. I forgot to take pictures of other dimsums because I was too busy eating. Dim Sum for dinner? Yes, please! We stopped in here on a Friday night for dinner at 8pm. We were greeted by a friendly server who helped us decipher the menu. My husband can't eat shrimp (allergy) and the nice waiter helped us figure out what he could eat. We ordered a variety of things trying to be adventurous. The bbq pork buns were awesome! At only $1.99 for three, they're a steal! My favorite of the evening was the shrimp puff with mayo ($3.99). Items we didn't like but we assume they just aren't to our taste: steamed bean sheet and steamed bbq rice noodle. The steamed seafood dumpling was too dense. The egg custard tarts ($1.99 for 3) were good and not overly sweet. I could have had them sweeter, but I think they were quite good. My one price complaint is a single can of Diet Coke was $1.75. This is actually not a bad review but I am spoiled by cart service. If you happen to stumble upon the words "HK Dim Sum" on google or other references, this is the place it refers too. it's a small place that will have you in standing room only if you ever happen to get here after 11 a.m. on a weekend. I am not sure how the weekdays go but I can also imagine the same during a lunch rush. You will have a hard time finding parking up front but a 50 yard walk is tolerable and you might want it to fight off that full feeling after leaving here. It's ala cart type only and you can compare the pictures to what you are ordering with the tally sheet you are given. Service is let's say........eager. Like an eagle swooping down and snatching up it's prey you might feel the same after you've emptied out one of those cylindrical containers that the food comes in and if you are lucky enough get an arm in your face a minimum of three times before your meal is over with. No personalized service here but you will never have to worry about your table being cluttered with spent steam trays. These people will watch your table like a hawk in order to get that "edge" of cleaning and resetting it for the next customers standing outside. One thing that did disgust me and saw on two occassions......they will use the patrons who have left their drinking water and/or tea pot to "clean" the tables! They might think you're too busy eating and notice but one time I saw one of them pour the tea on the table and wipe it with a rag * gasp * and thinking this was a fluke noticed within 15 minutes later a quick "sling oops" of someone's half glass of drinking water "spilled" on the table followed by the rag that probably has never been sanitized or changed out the whole shift....... I might get a back lash from actually reporting this but another review pretty much summons up the same thing. They might as well keep their dumplings outside the back door like Fu Fu's does (pictures verified). The food though is very fresh and flavorful all the way through if you can get through the cleanliness snag but there is a saying "there are two things you never want to see in life, walking into your grandparents having sex and the kitchen of your favorite restaurant". read more

This review is for today's experience. Saturday 9AM 6/20/15 First off, come early! My mom and I had a pretty busy schedule and for breakfast, dim sum was the first thing on my mind! Be here early. My mom and I were here at 8:45 and sat in our car for 15 minutes. When I mean, be here early, I'm not joking, especially on a a Saturday. We weren't the only ones waiting in our car, that's a fact. As soon as they opened, we made sure to get our butts in the door. Service Quick and fast. You're seated right away and they get your drink orders immediately. There was this lady who's petite, very short hair and has light brown hair. I mention her because she speaks both Chinese and Vietnamese. Props to her for knowing both languages and accommodating to both the Chinese and Vietnamese customers. Also, she was very nice and always checked up on us if we needed anything. If it wasn't her, I probably wouldn't have said good things about service, like most people. Then again, we came early. Water was refilled. My favorite Dim Sums are when I can have it all day, and this is the place! Though it can get crowded.... sorry let me correct myself. It can get VERY crowded and busy, this is still the place to go. Though the place may be small, it's worth the wait. And apparently they are known to have best or top notch all day dim sum awards all over their walls. Parking There is ample parking. If you can not find parking all over the lot, then there's 2 garages. No biggie. Food Because be came when they opened, the food was fresh. Delicious. Though, I was disappointed in the Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce. The oyster sauce was salty and though I'm glad that one of the waiters was truthful, it also was disappointing. Sounds like a lot. And let me tell you, it was. We even had left overs. This is one of the few that actually open early. Most places open at 10 or 11 am. So glad that this place opened at 9 because by the time it gets past that, parking spots get filled, people start coming in, and it just becomes a mess. I'm usually a cart person, because I'll be able to know how much I'm getting and will know when you stop, versus the paper and you're just basing it off of hungry bellies and eyes bigger than your stomach. Other noteworthy dishes are the eggplant, rice noodle rolls with shrimp & turnip cake. Never will I fight the masses & carts in search of the best dim sum! I have mixed feelings about this tiny restaurant. The atmosphere was pleasant enough but the service was mediocre. The dim sum was ordered directly from the kitchen rather being served on carts, which was convenient, but not as fun as seeing all the selections on the carts. The menu had photos which I appreciated. Two of the items we ordered were fantastic and I would be tempted to return for those, but the other three dishes were not very good at all. The prices seemed very reasonable for the amount of food that we got, but then when you consider that we didn't want to eat three-fifths of what we ordered, it doesn't seem like much of a bargain after all! Our order consisted of steamed shrimp dumplings, steamed shrimp and pork dumplings, pan-fried turnip cakes, wonton noodle soup and beef brisket with white rice. Both types of dumplings were absolutely delicious and even the lovely, translucent wrappers of the shrimp dumplings were tasty. I did not care for the taste of the turnip cake at all. There was no hint of turnip taste, only bad-tasting sausage. The wontons in the wonton noodle soup were good, but the broth had an off taste. The beef brisket was very tender, but it was swimming in a brown gravy that tasted more like something you'd find in a package at HEB than something I'd expect from a Chinese restaurant. read more

I love dim sum and have tried many restaurants. I saw this restaurant on "Eat Like A Local" and decided to try it. I brought my sister along and we ordered 10 different items, intending to bring our leftovers home to enjoy it later (and yes, I know it's better fresh than reheated). Every single item was incredibly delicious. There is so much love and thoughtfulness evident in every single item. The staff was very attentive and helpful. The place is incredibly clean and attractive. We loved it so much we plan to return tomorrow to enjoy some other items on the menu. You have got to try this place! read more

Their Singaporean rice noodles Did not even use curry, the color is off, and they threw in whatever kitchen left over into my poor Singaporean fried rice noodles, ( left over fish balls, left over char-siu, bean sprouts, there should not be ANY of these weird stuff in Singaporean noodles!!!) Dim sum is decent, menu is perfect for those who can't remember the names of the dishes as there are pics and numbers so you just mark theuantity of each item on the order sheet they give you. If you want dim sum on carts this is not the place to go. Egg tarts here are not the flaky HK style like at ECK so you will be slightly disappointed if you order them here. TLDR; FOUND A ROACH. This place the moment you walk in does not seem very sanitary. I also went to the restroom and there was an unpleasant lingering smell that was definitely not from someone who recently went to the restroom. I ordered $64 plus tip worth of food togo with my friend so we could go back to Sharetea to study. We waited more than 20 minutes when we were told it should take only 10 minutes. We ate the food with our friends and EVERYTHING was super bland including the sauce. Okay cool right? At this point because everything tasted nasty, I carefully took a bite of the sesame ball. I look into it because I'm already sketched out and I find a whole fucking baby roach inside the red bean paste. There's security cameras in sharetea if anyone thinks I placed it in there myself and if the owners want to check we found it around 8 pm today 12/5/19. Do you like dim sum? I always welcome a new dim sum place in town, and this one just opened up in the strip next to Juice Box and Fu Fu Cafe... they took over the old Cafe Penang location. You walk in and sit down and a waiter comes up to you with a menu and a handout with the various dim sum dishes that you can order ranging from s, m, l, to xl dishes... just like Dim Sum King down the street. I had lunch there yesterday and tried the chicken feet, the fried pork dumplings, the tarot root cake, and the steam bbq pork buns... while the food didn't blow my socks off, it definitely satisfied my hunger cravings and I wouldn't mind coming in again. There are soo many new asian restaurants opening up in this block of Bellaire alone that you hope that most of them survive just for the sake of having diversity of food in my belly. read more

The shrimp rice rolls.. the shrimp had a long lasting pungent seafood smell and taste. (Not in a good way). The rice rolls we're too thick and doughy. The sticky rice didn't come in the leaves.and was dry. The Chinese broccoli was so bland. The sauce that came with it wasn't good. Sweet pork buns tasted so damn fake. It was bright bright pink.
