OK - So I am biased! I was born here (in1949!!) and raised in the next town (Letchworth - 3 miles away) until I got my PhD and left for parts foreign in 1973 (Jeez I am old.....)
I have SUCH fond memories of this quaint, beautiful little market town. The full-blown Tuesday and Saturday markets are a thing of the past - and the old cattle market disappeared long long ago but there are signs around the arcade area. My dear old Mum would take me on the bus to visit her sister (my aunt) and we would walk in the park, play on Windmill Hill and usually walk around the market. For instance I bought my first ever transistor radio here about 58 years ago!!! Now I just like to wonder around and soak in some of the history (and my personal history and memories) and enjoy the restaurants like the Hermitage and the OK (not great) little French Bistro (Café Rouge)
Just park in the big car park near St Mary's Church (used to be the big open air market) and enjoy. read more
