We had a great visit at Hat Creek Ranch and stayed for two nights. The little cabins are lovely, very clean and well organized. We all enjoyed the ranch itself, and the food in the restaurant was better than anything we had in the area, good portions and tasty. The Fraser Canyon and environs have been so decimated by the Coquihalla that it's not much of a foodie mecca :-( The downside was not much shade (but it makes the historical events all the more real!) and quite a lot of mosquitoes the year we were there. The little cabins had screens, and the miner's tents too I think. I think the teepees may not have screens -- so these may be the worst place to stay for bugs. All of the rental accommodation is adjacent to a horse paddock with horses that enjoyed being fed by our very pleased children. read more

We stopped here for lunch and check out the historical ranch. The entrance fee was a bit high, so we decided to have lunch only and skip the ranch tour. There's a small portion of the ranch that's free - blacksmith workshop, so we got to see the blacksmith make a nail which was really neat. For lunch, we ordered the bison chilli with corn bread and Salmon Burger + seafood chowder. All items were delicious, I really enjoyed the salmon burger and seafood chowder. Bison chilli had tons of stuff in it, so you feel quite full afterwards. If you happen to pass by the Hat Creek Ranch, it's a great place for lunch. read more
