I had a salesman sell me a roof in Florida. He told me if I signed their contract. It was not a big deal because they are a true blue company... And if we change our mind, we could back out... my wife loves her job. So we were going to hold off for a while and Kris, the manager told me that we would lose 20% of our deposit which was $10,000. He's strong armed us into replacing our roof with them even though my coworker had a roof that was leaking right after they replaced the roof. I would not go with this company if I could save your life. They are a money grab and will go back to legal stuff if you ever try and back out when they're salesman say it's OK. One star is an overstatement. Hippo is a roofing company that is in the business of promising the world and delivering the bare minimum. The beginning communication is the only point where they treat you with civility and respect. Once the penalty enforced contract is signed, they treat you like you are their employee and you have to accept whatever they say. I have a detailed account of all of my issues with this company and if you would like to avoid trouble for an overpriced roof, I suggest you contract a different company. FALSE & MISLEADING Advertisements BUYERS BEWARE IN BREVARD COUNTY (& POSSIBLY OTHER COUNTIES!) Hippo advertises 100% financing through the P.A.C.E. program in their sales pitches, on their website/blogs (dated 12-8-23), and on radio station 98.5 "the Beach" multiple times per day. And then, when the false 100% financing through PACE does not go through, they will use strong-arm tactics to get paid in full asap or try to steer you to different financing companies. THIS FINANCING OPTION DOES NOT ACTUALLY EXIST in Brevard (& possibly others). Why? Because Brevard county entered Resolution No. 22-067 on 8/2/22 -- yes, well over one year ago(!!!) -- terminating the PACE Program specifically for single family residential properties; and (more importantly) in 8/2022, the County Attorney's Office notified contractors via certified mail of the resolution giving the contractors 90 days' notice of the termination. When Hippo claimed they were unaware that the county had banned PACE for single family residences, I provided Hippo copies of the Resolution & a copy of the letter the county attorney's office sent in 8/2022. As a result of their false & misleading advertising, we had to finance through other means, negatively effecting us. Hippo was told of this - they didn't care & offered NOTHING for our troubles. They've been paid in full and, frankly, that's all they cared about - the money, not their customer. I'm not writing for myself, but my dad's experience (hence the 4 out of 5 stars). About four years ago, my dad made the decision that "it was time" for him to sell the house right about when his original roof had hit the 26 year mark. He'd hired someone (a "handyman" of sorts) to come out and patch up some damage from previous storms, and... yeah. Anyway, he'd reached out to a few local/independently owned roofing companies and decided on Hippo. They got him repaired/redone within a matter of days (asphalt roof), and he's been happy with them ever since! The only reason why I'm posting this is that a) he's 76 and has never heard of Yelp, b) I just left my old industry of cell phone towers and asked him his opinion on what I should do with my life (roofs! it's still working with heights!), and c) upon giving his opinion on what I should do with my career, I got to hear the story of his roofing experience. (Those of you with 70+ year old parents/grandparents know that the struggle is real when it comes to random stories.) The only reason why I'm even posting this review - again, it was my dad's experience and I am going on positive hearsay from him directly alone - is that after said conversation I'd jumped on Yelp to find somewhere that had decent TexMex food that wasn't 70 miles away, he'd asked what I was doing and showed him Yelp. We hired Hippo Roofing to install a metal roof. Big mistake on my part. I had heard horror stories about their work and I didn't listen. Bottom line, I would not recommend them for any job. My $40,000 roof looks terrible. They put peel and stick on my valley which looks terrible. I ask them why and they're and was because they are allowed to. I've tried to talk to them but they are very rude people. They stood in my driveway yelling and calling me a liar. I would give them zero stars. read more

Was pleased with the roof itself, however, the gutters were damaged during the roof install. They contacted a gutter person to replace them, which was great, however, he did a SUBPAR installation. The gutters are poor quality and have contacted my sales rep several times to no avail about the gutters. It's been a little over a year and they are already so molded that I can't get them cleaned anymore. I pressure wash them to no avail. My Mother-in-law needed a new roof so I called three different roofing companies to get estimates. Ben, from Hippo, came out to do an estimate and he was very professional and not pushy at all. I decided to go with them (for a metal roof) and Ben even agreed to come out the next day and apply a temporary patch in an area that leaked. The patch worked great and we proceeded to wait for the installation (8-10 weeks). In the meantime, Irma made her visit. That introduced a slight delay as Hippo had to repair damages to roofs around town (understandable). Finally, the day arrived for the start of the new roof. The team that came out got right to work with prepping the old roof and checking for damage. They only had to replace 2 or 3 pieces of plywood. Unfortunately, they left at the end of the day and didn't tarp. Of course, it rained that night and we got quite a few leaks...one was so bad the ceiling fell down! I called Hippo and they sent someone over that day (Christian) and he documented the damage, put a temporary patch on the areas where the roof leaked and told me when the roof was installed they would send a guy over and fix the interior on their dime. Having a lot of experience with Florida contractors I really didn't expect any satisfaction with the repairs or if they would even show up without a bunch of phone calls. Christian (I guess he was the project manager) called me when the roof was complete and made arrangements for John (one of their drywallers) to come out and look at the interior damage. He came out after a couple of days and took a look. One thing he told me was "Hippo will make things right." Sure enough, after John finished, it looked like nothing happened inside...everything was perfectly and professionally done. The bottom line...there are quite a few roofing companies here on the Space Coast. When you get estimates compare their warranties, check their reputations and check their BBB ratings. You'll find Hippo is superior. I found them responsive (Christian always returned my phone calls right away), cared about the quality of their work and made sure the customer was totally satisfied at the end. They may not be the cheapest in town but peace of mind is priceless! read more

Worst communication skills ever. 2 months after giving a down payment of $14k, Hippo finally gets in touch with me about when they'll be putting my roof on. Once they started it took 3 weeks to complete. In what world does it take 3 weeks to complete a 30 square roof? Hippo damaged the sheetrock in all 4 of my skylights (1 was practically destroyed). They also damaged my front gutter. When their Installation Manager Jose went into my attic to check on a leak, he stepped through the ceiling in my garage, leaving a basketball-size hole. Now that they "finished" the roof 2 weeks ago, I still have all the sheetrock damage, a damaged gutter, a crooked skylight, and a metal panel without one single screw in it! Hippo's sheetrock guys came out to inspect the damage and said it would take 3 days to fix, but will look good as new and all textures will match. They said they'd come the following week - they never did. Meanwhile, their salesperson Aggi calls me and says she's stopping by for final payment "now that the job is complete". She was fully aware of all the damage, and had even taken pictures of the sheetrock damage around the skylights. When Aggi showed up for the payment, I showed her the damage - again, and expressed my complete displeasure. She tried to say I could keep $1k as "leverage" for the work to be completed. I told her absolutely not; right now I have $13k+ leverage and I'm getting blown off. They're not getting a dime until the job is complete to my satisfaction. She left empty handed. Later that day she called to tell me she found a "handyman" to fix the issues (a friend of hers maybe?). I just spoke to the "handyman", Aggi never told him about the sheetrock damage. We needed a new roof on our house and went with Hippo Roofing. I couldn't be happier that we did, their customer service in the front office from Amanda Bill and Chris was superb. They walked us through every process and made it a seamless experience. When it came to the tear off of the roof they were super efficient with a large crew, took off our old roof and fixed our new one with new shingles in record time. They were very accommodating to the needs of our family and our requests. Everyone I dealt with was super professional and efficient like a well oiled machine. Tony the project manager was there every step of the way let me know what to expect he was on top of it. At the completion of the project, Tony from Quality Control came out to make sure I was 100% satisfied. Hippo installed this roof in 2013 with a "10 year warranty". After Irma, they refused to patch a leak or even come and see it. The woman on the phone said that the warranty does not transfer from the previous owner and they will not honor the craftsmanship of their work. Stay away from Hippo. read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would. Hippo removed the existing flat roof system and replaced with what they called the same. It is not the same. The new roof makes noises as if decking is being pulled up and when I called to report the problem, both the owner, Bill Stilwell and his second in charge said "your roof passed inspections and therefor is up to code" and would not address the new issue. They charged my insurance company over $30,000 for the new roof and will do nothing to fix the noises it now makes everyday. Do not use Hippo Roofing! While some staff are good people, the owner and top management do not stand by their product and are disrespectful to clients. read more

I had my roof done by Hippo after sustaining hail damage. After the work was done and I had already paid approximately half the invoice, they gave me the invoice showing my deposit and the remaining balance. When I received payment from my insurance company, I promptly wrote the check for the full balance on my invoice and delivered directly to Hippo offices. They would not accept the check and were demanding $1500 more than the invoice total (they wanted my entire insurance check to the penny) not the agreed price as stated on the invoice given to me once the job was completed. Extremely dissatisfied. I have all documentation of this miserable ordeal. read more

Roofing consumers please beware. I should have looked up the Better Business Bureau on this company before going with them. The "metal roofing over shingles" thing they try to sell you....first of all is a really bad idea. If you are placing metal roofing over your existing roof, when you get your wind mitigation you will not receive the points you need to get any discount on your home insurance, which will cost you about $1000 a year extra at the least, even though you have a "new" roof. We were not aware of this, and we were sold a roof with the purpose of getting a discount on our insurance, which Hippo assured us we would, just to make a sale. Shame on them! After the roof is on, Hippo does not return any phone calls. I have left 3 messages in this past week, wanting answers to my questions. Ricardo, the manager always seems to be in a "meeting." If you don't believe me, just check the BBB ratings, their accrededation has been REVOKED. Revoked? Yes. Do your homework and avoid Hippo Roofing. read more

I should have realized I was in trouble when the Hippo installers arrived in an old beat up van and no one spoke English! In the end, I paid $26,000 for a steel roof which took four weeks to complete and during the installation Hippo damaged gutters and landscape lights. The roof leaked on two occasions damaging my bathroom ceiling. After installation the roof leaked again and Hippo had to come and remove and re-install a large portion of poorly fitted roof material. In the end it took nearly seven months to complete and during this time Hippo provided poor customer service and was unresponsive to most of my communications. A month later I still have not received warranty and wind mitigation inspection as promised. Horrible company. Do not use these guys. read more

Took 2 months for a project that we were promised would only take 3 1/2 weeks. We had Tyvek as our roof for a whole month. Our home insurance lapsed and they would not give us any kind of discount. We tried to withhold payment for the time that we waited, but they told us that the workers would not get paid. We had to call to see why no one was working on the roof. No one ever called us to tell us anything. Although they said everything was made in FL, they blamed the hold-up on the fact that corporate headquarters for the roofing supplies was located in NC. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! WE TOLD THEM THE ROOF HAD TO BE DONE BEFORE MARCH FOR HOME INSURANCE TO BE RENEWED. ROOF WAS NOT COMPLETED UNTIL MARCH 10TH. THEY WOULD NOT GIVE ANY DISCOUNT. read more

Had a metal roof installed in Feb. Noticed in April metal wasn't trimmed at parts of the edge of the roof and the corners didn't match. They weren't uniform. The metal was jaggedly cut. I let the company know. Had issues with general manager already over debris after I stepped on a rusty nail from old roof 2 mos after roof installed. The general manager Ricardo Matus decided to come to my house without me knowing he was coming. I thought he would have called first to let me know. Since I didn't hear him knock, he simply left his card in the front door and left. Had Issues with him again over appointments. He sends the crew out without me knowing they were coming! I hear them on my roof with their power tools. I'm dealing with a dying dog that day. I had already told him I had things to do and that's why I needed appointments. So apparently now I'm hostile cause I cussed him and I'm a threat to his workers and my property is an unsafe environment so my roof is as is. I'm 5'3". How much of a threat can I be to a bunch of men? Men that are there to fix what I want done. I didn't cuss them. I cussed HIM!!!! Customer satisfaction means squat. He got butthurt and I got screwed. I have metal on the side of my house with label remnants on it and mismatched corners and sections of my roof without insulation. read more

I originally told the general manager / owner that I would not leave a negative review for the company. However, because Hippo Roofing has continued to come up short on promises and guarantees, I felt compelled to share a little of my story in hopes that it saves someone else from making the same mistake my family and I did by hiring Hippo Roofing to do our roof. July 6, 2016, we signed an agreement with Hippo Roofing to have them do a metal roof-over on our residence. We did not have $15,500.00 lying around in the bank, so we had to finance the amount through Hippo Roofing. They immediately, that day charged us for half of the cost of the roof. We were told by the salesman that our roof would be completed within 3-4 weeks. 4 weeks went by and we did not so much receive a phone call from Hippo Roofing about when they planned on starting our roof. We did however, now have to make our first payment on a roof that had not been started. After numerous attempts we finally got a hold of the project manager who told us that were on the schedule for the next week. Another more week went by and nothing. So we spoke to the project manager who told us again the next week we would get started. Fast forward a total of 9 weeks from the time we signed until the time Hippo Roof started our roof. I spoke with the general manager / owner and explained to him my displeasure with the lack of communication with his company and requested he look at our file to see if he could take some money off of the total bill since his company had failed to do the things they said they were going to do. A week later I received an email from him stating there was not any room for a refund by to accept a $100 check for my troubles. I returned his email and told him I did not believe he was doing right by his customers and that it seemed he only cared about his bottom line. He has not responded to that email. Nor do I expect him to respond to this review. Finally after 9 1/2 weeks our roof was finished. 2 days later the clan-up guy showed up and cleaned up half of the debris left behind. He told me he was going to the dump and would be right back. The next day when he hadn't returned I again called the project manager. He assured me the clean-up guy would be back out either that day or first thing the next morning. He had no answer as to why the clean-up guy did not return the previous day. The project manager also advised that he would be dropping off my warranty information that night, he did not. The project manager further said he saw my email to the general manager / owner and agreed that the $100 offer was a slap in the face. The next day at 11:30am the debris had still not been picked up. It was not picked up and until I left a voicemail for the project manager (who never once actually answered his phone he always called me back either hours or days later) and promised to load the debris in my truck and leave it at Hippo Roofing if he didn't have it cleaned up by the end of the day. I know this is long but it's not really even half of the story. Working with Hippo Roofing was one of the worst experiences of my life.
