Himitsu Teriyaki. The mistress I never expected...and find it difficult getting away from. Just too good. What makes this place stand out is their gluten-free menu. Not really my thing, but I know that it seems to be the trend right now. Either way, whatever your teriyaki vibe, Himitsu has what you need. The flavor is above average and the quality of the food has yet to disappoint me. I'm not saying set your standards to kill, but they don't need to be at stun either. I SO badly wanted to love this place!!! I cannot find a GF teriyaki place anywhere and the bonus of having a bakery right there too that's GF, genius! But... Ive been checking back on yelp to see if anyone else had an experience with food poisoning and I see now someone else did, so it wasn't a fluke. We had the GF chicken teriyaki and Pork teriyaki, which is did taste great, we got so sick later that night. Obviously, its not fresh. I am a loyal fan of Happy at the Bay in Renton. However, I have moved and don't get to go nearly as much as I'd like to. (And it's not very hot when I take it home. Eh.) Himitsu is the best I've found in Kent... so far. I usually get the chicken teriyaki & katsu combo. They have a good sized menu with many selections that I just am ignorant to... I'm one of those get-the-same-thing-every-time-when-I-find-my-favorite type of gals. Been eating at this place for years. I especially love their bento box. Everything is so tasty! The chicken teriyaki, the shrimp and veggie tempura, the gyoza... and oh my the Cali rolls. I have yet to find another GF Teriyaki place as good as Himitsu. Actually, I've never seen another. Sure, you can ask some places to leave out the soy sauce in your fried rice, blah blah blah, but that doesn't taste as great as the real (GF) thing! They have more than one item you can order GF, too! I pretty much stick to the chicken teriyaki because I'm set in my ways, but I'm sure the other GF options are just as delicious. Hidden behind the Starbucks and a bank at the corner of Kent-Kangley and Benson, this little secret is one of the best Teriyaki joints in the South Sound. Everything about this place has been taken a step further then the competition. The decor is more in line with an expensive sushi restaurant then a small Teriyaki place next to a dry-cleaners. The presentation of the food is similarly classy. The food itself is solid fare, too - try one of the Bento specials if you're hungry. This combines teriyaki with tempura vegetables, green salad, California Rolls and rice - more then most can eat at a sitting, and all very good. The tempura vegetables are pretty surprising - the sweet potato and carrot work better then the broccoli, but it's all tasty. On a recent trip to my favourite bakery in Kent Washington, we came across this teriyaki place. Its literally next door to Haley's, and boasts the only gfree teriyaki that I've seen around these parts. Or, around any parts for that matter. I couldn't resist trying it out, since finding good gfree teriyaki in a bottle is difficult, and finding it in a restaurant is unheard of. Usually Japanese ordering for me consists of a few sushi rolls, and thats if I've remembered to bring along my own soy sauce. I excitedly sat down and ordered the chicken teriyaki meal for lunch. The salad it comes with is your typical limp Japanese style shredded lettuce, but the teriyaki sauce more than makes up for it. Its was delicious! It didn't taste like the poor imitations you find at the store, but was authentic. What a nice treat! They also provide more sauce at the table, including gfree soy sauce. Simply some of the best teriyaki I've had, and I've had a lot! The tiki/island decor is a little cheesy, but at least they're trying to offer more than the typical cafeteria feel of most teriyaki places. The portions are generous, the salad what you would expect, and the service is by-the-numbers without a hint of personality or any attempt at friendliness. But the food is terrific. Their Gyoza was crispy, fresh and hot, and you have a bottle of the dipping sauce at your table. Great way to start. I got the spicy teriyaki and first off, it's the only teriyaki joint I've been to that uses the star rating system. And they MEAN IT. I went 4-star, and it came out with this really beautiful sauce on top. I could see all the peppers and spices and I knew I was in for a treat. It was spicy and full of flavor. I usually order 4 when I get Chinese or Thai and it's never spicy enough. Honestly, I'll probably go with 3 next time I come back here! My wife had the chicken breast regular teriyaki and said it was the best she ever had. We will definitely be going back frequently. It doesn't hurt that it's right next door to Yogurtland. My wife and I found out about this place on Yelp and have been going there for over 7 months. My wife has celiac so her being able to eat Teriyaki gluten free is a plus. Had a great lunch here, I got a plate of the chicken+chicken katsu and it was perfectly cooked, perfectly warm. I got a side gyoza that was presented very nicely. I love this place. Whenever I want to have a freshly grilled teriyaki, I stop by this place. They have a lot of gluten-free menus which is rare from other teriyaki restaurants. The order take a little longer than others but it is worth to wait due to the quality of the food. The owner said he never pre-cook the food which is I like but some people complaint about slow food. This is a go-to restaurant for me on Fridays. I get the Tofu Yakisoba. Their sauce is house made and isn't overpoweringly sweet or incredibly salty, it's mild but has a nice flavor. I always come back here for the Yakisoba and the Mongolian beef. The best I've had at any teriyaki spot and the good thing about this place is its gluten free but the reason why I love these dishes is the option of spiciness (1-5 stars) but at an extra cost I think $2-3 more. By far this is the spiciest 5 star I've ever had at any restaurant which most people couldn't eat but I love spicy food even if it kills me. It's clean and nice place to eat but the service could be better. This is one of the only good teriyaki places in Washington. I go out of my way to go to this restaurant just for their sauce. They even sell it in a bottle so you can take some home. I can never complain about Himatsu's the food is quality, staff is friendly, they are definitely my go to for teriyaki. The one down side is that they are a little slow, so if you are in a hurry say for lunch call ahead and your food is ready within 10-15 minutes...plan accordingly. Word from the wise stopping by close to closing they may be out of rice and sometimes chicken, we were so disappointed one night. I started out with 4 stars, but after writing this I think it is more of a 3. Please try them out you won't be disappointed. read more
