I had the buffet twice here. There is a varied selection for lunch and dessert. The naan, rice, and butter chicken were delicious. The mango dessert dish is a must try. There is ample seating and the overall atmosphere is lovely. I really enjoyed the traditional decor and portraits of Nepal/Tibet. Can't speak for the menu outside the buffet but the buffet was definitely more Indian than Himalayan cuisine. I know there are some similarities in the dishes but I felt like I was at an Indian restaurant. The food was still great tho. We ordered take out from here while staying in Flagstaff in February, and while it was satisfyingly warm it really wasn't the spicy, flavorful Himalayan food I was hoping for. My dish was missing a lot of flavor (I ordered the butter chicken), and my husband's dish (Saag Paneer) was a bit better but not outstanding. I do want to give a shoutout for the amazing service we experienced while waiting, and I would not hesitate to go in for a meal to try it again. I think it would be worth another try. read more

We arrived at our hotel and where looking for a place to grab lunch. Himalayan Grill was right across from our hotel. My husband mentioned it look like a place we had stopped at ten years earlier while driving through Flagstaff. We both remembered really liking the food so we decided to try it again. We were not disappointed. The food was as delicious as we remembered. The chef has a wonderful way of blending spices that gives the dishes a lovely and complex flavor. Service can be a bit slow but take your time and enjoy the fabulous aromas that linger in the air. read more

We were just strolling through Flagstaff looking for a decent place to eat and luckily stumbled upon this gem. As soon as you enter the restaurant, you are likely to be drawn to the ambiance which will make you feel like you are somewhere in Nepal. The whole place is neatly decorated with antiques and artworks from Nepal and Tibet. As for the food, this place did not dissapoint. I ordered the Non-veg thali, and as soon as the food arrived at my table, my jaw dropped due to the monstrosity of the thali. Never have I ever seen so many dishes packed into a single thali. The plethora of meats will keep confusing as to which bite to take next as each one is equally delicious. Everything was a m a z i n g! Samosas were large, generously filled, but not heavy. Chutneys were delicious. Garlic naan was light and fluffy, just the right amount of garlic. Mushroom masala was smooth and creamy and loaded with great tastes. We ordered it mild which was apparently a zero on the spicy scale. The place was super clean, smelled a bit of incense and the tandoor oven, and beautifully decorated. The staff was very attentive and so friendly. This is a world class restaurant, better than most places we've tried in Phoenix or anywhere else! We will definitely be back. read more

This is a local favorite and I've come here for years. The menu offers a wide range of vegetarian and vegan options. The entrees are flavorful and the generous portions are large enough to share. The cauliflower saffron is fragrant, creamy and the cauliflower is cooked perfectly--tender but not mushy. I always order the sag paneer. Excellent Indian food. Samosas had a great flavor. Garlic naan had just the right amount of garlic. Lamb masala is super. Yellow dhal is soupy but nice flavor. Eggplant dish also has a lot of spices. Your reviews are so mixed because clearly, you dont have consistency down. There are MUCH better Indian restaurants in this town that offer delicious food and great service. Unfortunately there is no option for zero stars. Dined here on 12 December 2021.I typically comment on restaurants for two reasons: really good or really bad. The service at this restaurant, for me, was horrendous. I stepped through the doors and asked to dine in alone and the manager try to sit me at a small table in the dark by the bathroom door, which I told him would not happen. He then sat me a table of four and when my lamb biryani was ready he walked by and basically threw it at the other end of the table away from where I was without saying a word and kept walking. I would like to speculate as to the reason why this particular staff member was so disrespectful but I'll just leave it at this. To top it all off, I have had lamb biryani at several other restaurants and this dish was by far the least flavorful I've had. Although it was a large portion, which I barely ate it, I turn down the to go box they offered me. Lastly, my Diet Coke was a flat as it could be. read more

I tried the place bcuz of recommendations. The food was pretty good. 4 Stars!! But the service and management was extremely poor. The servers were nice and quick but poorly managed by the older gentleman, likely the manager. I had to ask for refills and ask when might the rest of the plate arrive. Another table asked a couples time for food status. The manager seated me and didn't not take anytime to orientate me on food. He expected me to order immediately and was frustrated. We were visiting Flagstaff and we decided to get indian food for dinner. We ordered daal fry, vegan tofu kadai , onion kulcha , chilli naan. We asked for medium spicy heat . Only reason is - it is on our way to phoenix. Once we entered there is no one to guide us to the table. I see there are staff staring at us but none came up to help us. However we found our own table and there starts the my review exactly. Food options are very less and the quality of the food is not satisfying. Nothing is spicy .More like the toddler food I say. It is 1 PM and I hope that's is the right time for lunch, but most of the dishes are empty and there is no refilling done. Above that , you find the staff gossiping around but not prompt servicing like asking for drinks, refilling your water glasses, cleaning the plates done. Nothing !! Excellent food from an underappreciated region. I had Sag Paneer and it was good and creamy. Hubby had a bowl of hot Lamb Thupka noodle soup. Very hot and he said very good. I have never been disappointed with any choice from the menu (and there is a LOT to choose from) and my favorite section is the authentic Himalayan options! My brother-in-law was craving for some Indian food and we thought Flagstaff would not have Indian cuisine. We yelped and found that Flagstaff not only has single Indian restaurant but has couple of them and each one had minimum of 200 reviews. My husband when yelps only looks at the pictures and selects the restaurant and based on the pictures we chose Himalayan Grill. This place is not just Indian Restaurant but also offers Himalayan or Nepalese food. The decor of hotel is very nicely placed. The restrooms were clean. We ordered for Chicken and Onion Pakoras as appetizers. Chicken pakoras was okay but Onion pakoras were awesome. The best thing was onions were lightly coated with chickpeas batter which was apprecaited on our table. For main course we ordered for Butter Chicken with Garlic Naan, both my husband and brother in law were praising it and eventually ordered for another butter chicken. Lastly I ordered for Chicken Chau Chau and it was just great!!! It was garlicky which i enjoyed and had right amount of spices. I would highly recommend this place. read more

September, 2019 update: even better than last year. A whole variety of terrific chicken dishes. And spinach and other vegetarian dishes that are literally mouthwatering. Excellent bread. You could not ask for friendlier people. Great food, great service, great ambience. Hard to beat. 2018: I hadn't been here in two years, but it's as good as ever. Very tasty food, excellent service, wonderful atmosphere, friendly owners. The buffet food was all tasty and well prepared. Every time I drive from the West Coast to Santa Fe, I make it a point to stop off here. One of the highlights of the trip. Thanksgiving 2018 update: again as fabulous as ever. A real feast. Whether you're vegetarian or a meat eater or just want some Dal soup and Sag Paneer, everything is first rate. I spoke to a customer who comes virtually every day to feast. We went here last night because it was in walking distance from our hotel. It was a great surprise. My husband had the chicken vindaloo with a 3 spice (1-5). It was fresh and he ate it all! I got the chicken Madras with a 3 spice. It had the perfect spice level and I wanted to eat it all but got too full. The service was good too.
