By far, the nicest place to stay in Ames. Located within walking distance of Perfect Games entertainment center, a veterinary center, and Bergies' Philips 66 gas station, it is the choice hotel for travel teams and coaches. There is plenty of parking close to the rooms which are all on one level. The expert, friendly staff (Ginger, Natasha, Tiffany, Britt, Lisa and many others) will take great care of you during your stay. Rooms are very clean using Lysol sanitation methods and you can request your room cleaned daily or not at all during your stay, whatever your comfort level. As a hotel participating in the Ames Healthy Initiative, smoking or vaping of any kind is allowed on the premises (including parking lots) and those who do will be charged a hefty additional fee ($250+ per night). Rooms are reasonably priced for the area ($89-$110) slightly higher on the weekends with group, business, and long-term stay rates available. This is the only hotel in Ames that serves a full hot breakfast for an additional $10 (coupons for free breakfast are available for groups). Lisa, (who is from Arkansas) serves the best grits in town! A limited dinner menu is available (the margarita flatbread is tasty) and later in the evening adult travelers linger around the bar drinking craft beers and sharing stories. Help yourself snacks and beverages are available in the lobby 24/7, just let the staff know what you take and the charge will be added to the room. The convenience of food on site cannot be overestimated. A beautiful location for wedding guests, the hotel is updated with the latest decor and, of course the grounds outside are kept attractive. There is plenty of seating for people who want to lounge outdoors in the sunshine. You might pay a few dollars more per night, but the comfortable beds, kind staff, accessibility, amenities, and courteous fellow travelers are worth it.

Poor drainage in our room. Attendant at front desk was unconcerned when I brought it to her attention.

I like this hotel ... it is probably the best in Ames. Clean rooms, quiet, friendly staff. Appears to be well managed.

Great room...big, new. Loved the Keirig machine. Breakfast is horribly over-priced. And watch out for Neutrogena imposters!

Beautiful spot for a little wine tasting! We sat outside and enjoyed a wine flight. As first time…read morecustomers, a little more guidance would have been helpful. We didn't really know where to go or how everything worked. We didn't know or see a sign saying they sold charcuterie/snacks, until we found out after the fact. We did enjoy some of our wines & definately will come back & try more!

It seemed like the thing do after our meeting and lunch. It took a bit to get out there because it is on the north side of campus and Ames. I had actually never been here because it didn't exist when I was in college. Though there has really been a winery boom in the last couple of years. The winery baristas were able to explain the 10 different wines to us. It would have been amazing if they had all of the white wines because one was sold out. The deal of trying 8 1 oz glasses for 8 dollars is great. We ordered two of their cheese and charcuterie plates (later we found out this was all that they had made). The seating was not ideal and we stayed at the wine bar instead of trying other locations. There was not a tasting card given to you when you got your flight of wines so you had to really pay attention so you knew which ones you wanted to buy. The Iowa grape wines were for the most part great. However, the chardonnay grape that was purchased from California was not good. It either wasn't store correctly in the barrels or not a high quality. Chardonnay is one of the wines I have grown up drinking because my Grandma loves a good chardonnay and I believe I have 4 different bottles of chardonnay at home. Overall not bad place, just I've been to better wineries.

Awesome place that really surprised. Clearly a farm to table concept with a varied but overwhelming…read moremenu. Came in on a weeknight with coworkers and received good service and fantastic food. Nice drink menu (I enjoyed their take on the old fashioned) with cocktails and a nice craft beer selection. Everyone loved their food, from the barley soup to the ravioli, burger, Brussels salad, and the salmon I got. Hidden gem perhaps was their incredible dessert selection. The cherry tart was a pleasant surprise and the salted caramel chocolate cake will def fix a choc craving. Would gladly come back.

Provisions Lot F in Ames…read more If you like fresh baked breads and bomb desserts, along with amazing food, head to Provisions if you're in the area. Pork Belly app: thick cut pork belly in lettuce cups, topped with sweet thai glaze, pickled carrots, onions, celery, mint, thai basil, cilantro, scallions and crushed peanuts. A tad sweet for me but overall this was a great app. Slice of Sourdough: delish. Chicken Japchae: since my mom has celiac disease, we were very excited to see this on their menu - dining out with her can be a challenge. Especially at a place specializing in breads! The only unfortunate part about this dish is (I think) they forgot they already salted the chicken and salted it again...and then again. I'm not one to say something is too salty, I love my sodium but this was mouth-puckering salty. Inedible, actually, but the noodle dish itself was SO GOOD that she set the chicken aside and ate the entree. NY Strip Steak: perfectly med-rare, served with a garlic-rosemary potato pavé (like a potato casserole of sorts), roasted broccolini and a house steak sauce that was similar to a demi glaze. Not a bite left - no leftovers with this one. I ate the whole dang thing. Myself. And I have zero regrets. Crème Brûlée: I also couldn't leave without ordering a crème brûlée because there are some really bad ones out there. This did not disappoint. I also took home a Dubai Chocolate tort, Raspberry Crumble and a Flourless Chocolate cake. ZERO regrets but if you love Dubai chocolate then you know there are some discusting renditions of this in the market. However, the Dubai chocolate tort at Provisions Lot F is . I can't even describe how delicious this was and is worth the drive to Ames just for this dessert. If you're north of DSM for a game or whatever, I highly recommend Provisions! I'm already scheming a way to get back there...soon!
