Lois B. Small and Gladys B. Hamilton Labyrinth - Labyrinth entry

This beautiful labyrinth is located in a peaceful garden in the Lane Avenue section of Chadwick…read moreArboretum. If you enter through the trellis and head to the right, you'll find a cozy, shady area featuring the labyrinth and surrounded by benches. The labyrinth itself has its roots in an 800 year old French medieval one, the Chartres Cathedral Labyrinth. It's so peaceful and relaxing to walk it, and the setting really adds to it. Despite the fact that it is technically between a busy street and a parking lot, the trees and plants obscure these views and give it a great atmosphere. The arboretum designed it as a white blooming garden to minimize distractions and encourage feelings of restfulness and restoration. If you are unfamiliar with a labyrinth, it is a one way path designed for contemplation. You follow the prescribed path to the center and then follow it back out. If you often find your mind wandering during meditation when sitting still, you might find the labyrinth helpful, since you can focus on your breathing and the steps ahead of you to help you achieve the meditative state. I love a good labyrinth walk and enjoy that we have this one. There is a nearby parking lot, though it's campus parking, or you can find parking meters on Fyffe near Howlett Hall and the Learning Gardens section of the arboretum.

"Raising the dead to feed the living" is the slogan and a worthwhile cause regardless of who you…read moreare or what you are in to. Bring canned food to donate to the Mid-Ohio food bank, it is that simple. Aside from the cause, I love, love, love this event! Granted, I have a somewhat weird infatuation with zombies - but doesn't everyone these days?! I have been to this event two years in a row.....and plan on continuing the new found tradition as long as it is around. I enjoy getting ready for the event - fx makeup is a self taught hobby of mine. I experiment on my children and everyone else i can talk into sitting still. Any excuse for breaking out the liquid latex is good enough excuse for me. The patrons - are all so cool. They are all there to have fun. These folks are amazing creative with their costumes. You never know what you are gonna see!!! My kids (16 and 8) look forward to the walk as much as I do.....the perfect way for family to spend time together and everyone is happy! And you get in some community service to boot - WOW. Win - Win!!!

We are the kindest zombies you'll ever know. We collect food for the needy and on top of that, we…read moresacrifice ourselves for them by letting S.T.A.R.S. kill us. Sure, we "terrorize" the Short North, but we're trying to let you humans know that as zombies, we have rights too! I'm a yearly participant in the annual ZombieWalk Columbus and have been since 2009. It is such a blast. We had some growing pains and almost got shut down by our leader after 2010, but I'm pretty sure we're here to stay. Participants are strongly encouraged to follow some simple rules: Don't touch ANYTHING OR ANYONE (this includes flinging/spraying blood); don't scare people who don't want to be scared; no alcohol; ladies, keep 'em covered, and gents, keep your pants on; stay on the sidewalk and obey all traffic signs. This is a family-friendly event and for the sake of the children participating, we want to set good examples and show them that community service can be lots of fun. We had some folks who didn't obey the rules in 2010, and because of that, the 2011 event almost didn't happen. So please, if you want to participate, follow the rules and don't ruin it for the rest of us. Non-perishable food donations are not required to participate, but they are encouraged. Kurt, the fella who organizes the event, does a "food count" and posts the size of our donation on the official Facebook page, as well as an estimated head count after the walk. It always fills us with pride when we find out how much food we were able to collect; we zombies are happy knowing we always die for a great cause every spring. This event is perfect for you if you love zombie movies and/or Halloween. Photographers always have a great time, too, so if you just want an excuse to play with your camera, come on out! Follow the event on Facebook. All you have to do is search "ZombieWalk Columbus (Official)" and "like" it. Kurt posts regular updates. You can also "friend" the event if you want to find pictures you're in. People always tag ZWC to try to help out with that endeavor.
