Too cool to be believed! I mean come on, how can a place like this exist in 2019? They have everything a woodworker could ever need, and then some. Have you been upstairs? Have you seen the courtyard? This place is amazing! I kept waiting for Nick Offerman to ask me if I needed any help.

Neat place. Really nice, helpful folks. High end, high dollar stuff but really nice selection and in the middle of the city.

I walked in looking for sand paper like a rookie and picked one that goes like a belt on the tool however I was looking to use it by hand. The staff members approached me and helped me pick the right one with correct coarseness for my project. The checkout process was a breeze and they helped me learn and signup for their rewards program. I'm glad this is my neighborhood Ace Hardware. There is ample of parking besides the store. It can be seen from regular traffic. They offer plastic free packaging. Shopping is a pleasure here, kudos to staff and a management.

I usually dress in a suit; that's how I was brought up to always look your best. As I am being rung out at the register, the cashier, a middle-aged Caucasian male, looks at me and says, "Your address awfully nice for going out tagging." Then he chuckled. I found this to be highly offensive when I called him out on it. He responded well: " I don't see anything wrong with it. I was just making a joke." I informed him that words hurt, and if I were a Caucasian male, he would not have made that statement. Due to my experience, I will never go back to this or any Ace Hardware's

During my visit, it seemed everywhere I turned, an employee was there to greet me and ask me if I needed anything. As I approached the key stand to get some keys cut, there were two employees ready to help. Shout-out to super-friendly Sahil for proactively asking me about my keys as soon as I pulled them out of my pocket. She let me know what my options were and I chose to have three standard keys cut at $2.98 each. Three total rang up to $9.74 after tax. Sahil told me this is the "fun" Ace Hardware and I could see why. The staff trended younger and more "hip." I'm a fan of Ace Hardware in general because each store feels like a small, local, and unique business. This one especially so. It's popular among locals with a strong sense of neighborhood and community. And, like other city Ace Hardware stores, it was densely-packed with all sorts of useful hardware and garden items. If you've never visited this location before, be sure to check out the beautiful plant room. They have a good selection of plants and a big wall of seeds. They even sell King of Pops here. Limited free parking is available on-site. I visited during a peak time and was able to snag a spot. If no spots are available, just park on Drewry St NE (also free). The lot is reserved for Intown Ace customers only.

When I arrived at the paint section, I was told that the paint matching system might not show all of the ingredients since it sometimes doesn't read white paint well. Seeing me hesitate proceeding with the paint match, the paint associate went out of their way to go ahead and run the paint sample, knowing there was a slim chance that it would be able to identify all of its ingredients. I'm so glad that she did this because it was able to identify all of the ingredients from the paint sample. Overall, it was a really positive interaction with associate being patient and helpful!

The lot is tight and hectic, and I've actually had my car door hit while parked, which immediately set a negative tone for my visits. Inside, experiences with staff have been inconsistent. The front desk employees seem somewhat engaged, but not fully. On one visit, a staff member confidently directed me to an item, only for me to return and ask again--at which point they looked it up and told me it was on the opposite side of the store. Unfortunately, they still didn't have what I needed, and that scenario has happened more than once. Over time, those repeated issues led me to stop shopping at this particular location. I genuinely like the Lowe's brand overall and have had much better experiences at other stores--this one just hasn't met the same standard for me.

As opposed to big box home…read moreimprovement retailers like Home Depot and Lowe's, Ace stores are smaller and really exude a more genuine and authentic neighborhood feel. Generally, I've found the folks at Ace to be more accessible, knowledgeable, and helpful than those at the bigger stores. Shep's Midtown Ace is no exception. Shep's Midtown Ace opened in January 2015. I watched from across the street, from inside my dentist's office, as this place came together. It's certainly one of the nicest-looking Ace stores I've seen to date, especially in terms of its facade. Like other urban and in-town Ace stores, they efficiently pack a lot of useful inventory into the store. This one has two levels. The store is located at the corner of Juniper and 7th. Free parking is located inside the deck next door. Enter via Juniper. You don't need to enter any of the gated areas inside the deck. There are street-level spots reserved for Ace customers that will be on your right just after entering the deck. You don't need to grab a parking ticket or anything. I came here needing a tool to replace a recessed light bulb in a high/vaulted ceiling (about 14 feet high). Shortly after I entered the store, an employee greeted me and asked me if I needed help finding anything. I told him what I needed and he told me exactly where I could find it in the lighting section upstairs. The bulb changing kit has a telescoping pole that extends to 11 feet and three attachments: one for recessed and track lighting (a suction), one for standard incandescent bulbs, and one for floodlights. It cost $27.21 after tax which I thought was a little pricey, but not excessive (otherwise, I wouldn't have bought it). I was satisfied with my experience and will definitely return. I like this and the other Ace Hardware near me (Bates Ace Hardware on Howell Mill) about the same. They're both good.
