Large chopped pork sandwiches were $6. Good sized sandwich. Meat was better than average. Bun was toasted. Needed a pickle slice. French fries were awful, cheap and way undercooked. Brunswick has pasta- oof what were they thinking? Okra was frozen, but tasty. Took forever to get a small order with no one else there. After spending $30 on bbq, asking $0.25 for a side of sauce is insulting. Sauce was clearly made in house and was meh. After seeing all of the stellar reviews, I just knew I was in for something good. The place is small and quaint with a decent amount of character. I would imagine coming during the rush you would be challenged to find a seat. I was after the rush and had no issues with seating. I ordered the BBQ plate with okra and baked beans. Well, I did try the beans, but I didn't eat a lot of them. The guy that delivered my food had his finger all up in the middle of my beans. So I ate some around the inner edge. They were pretty good. Looking for dinner on our way out of the Chattanooga area, just before hitting the TN/GA line, we took a detour for some BBQ, more specifically the Hickory Pit Bar-B-Que. When we made it to the store, we were somewhat skeptical....I mean a BBQ place with a drive thru???? But in we went! Man this place was small...Only a few tables that maaaaaaaaybe could seat about 20 folks. In fact at one point two couples shared a table who didn't know one another just because there wasn't the space. Staff were super nice and helpful and went over the menu for us. We decided on the following: Spare Pork ribs plate ($13) Brunswick stew ($4.50) The Spare ribs plate came with two sides. I asked for potato salad and baked beans. Texas toast accompanied the plate. First off, the ribs were legit! Fall off the bone tender, moist, and very flavorful! This plate came with 4 to 5 rib bones that were meaty, smokey and worth your time! The potato salad was very rich, sweet (miracle whip sweet) and while it wasn't good potato salad to us, between both of us, we finished this. The baked beans also were sweet, and had little chunks of meat in them that made me smile. These things were good! I am a brunswick stew snob I suppose, and the stew came out with macaroni noodles, corn, green peas, potato chunks, and strips of beef. Admittedly, I was not a fan of the stew at all, and it became my girlfriend's entree. Sides alone, i'd say this place is maybe 3 stars, but the ribs and customer service easily bump this up to 4 stars. Parking is shared here, so you wont have a problem getting parking here, although again the interior is small, so keep that in mind if you're coming with a crew of several people. Definitely off the beaten path, ribs are great, sides are okay, customer service is excellent. May be worth your time! read more

Homemade foods and lemonade! Staff was very friendly and made you feel very welcomed. I like the smaller location as it made you feel like you were in someone's home. I had the smoked chicken​ salad sandwich and it makes me not want it any other way again. Delicious. Baked beans were yummy too. Did I mention the lemonade? So tasty and fresh, made right there. I came here with a large group of 12 and had to split up to sit because it is a small restaurant. My husband and I split a chopped beef plate, Brunswick stew, and dynobites. When we were ordering, they were out of chili so we were not able to try that. Soon after, we heard the server list off a list of about 5 things that were all out. It was mid day Sunday, seemed strange that so many items were already gone. For the beef plate, we chose green beans and French fries. The beef was moist. The green beans and fries were pretty standard. The Brunswick stew was a bit sweet but for a cold day, I still enjoyed it. The dynobites were fun and different. Imagine frozen broccoli and cheese with fried batter on the outside. There was one guy serving every table and the outside table. Although it was small, it seemed a bit much for one person. On a road trip from Texas to Tennessee, decided to see what this part of the US has to offer on the BBQ front. This is a smaller place, five tables inside and a couple outside. We actually witnessed it go from empty to overflowing in the space of 5 mins - with people leaving because there was no more room. Waitstaff was friendly and efficient sometimes addressing the whole room. She had a burger with coleslaw and curly fries, all of which were deemed good. I had loaded baked potato with all the fixings including pork. Sides were corn on the cob, served with melted butter, and fried okra. My sides were pretty plain - good but lacking seasoning. The potato was a little smaller than expected but made up for it in flavor. Sweet sauce and tender meat made for a perfect blend to cheese, butter, sour cream. Very good. We also had a helping of banana pudding. This was generous in portion though clearly from a box. Overall, we left happy and satisfied. read more

It's been a couple years since we sat down for dinner at the Hickory Pit in East Ridge. Turned out to be a great meal for the wife and I. She had the pulled pork plate and I had a slab of baby back ribs. I've had the pulled pork platters and sandwiches there for years, but this was the first rack of ribs I've tried and everything was fantastic. Great 2nd generation owned family restaurant, always friendly and the food is always on point. Even bought a bag of their rub to use in my smoker. When I tell you that this place has the very best Fried okra in chattanooga, like smack your grandma good, I do not know if it is the oil they use or what but I eat it about 4 times a week. The other food is just as delicious, the Lindsey steak is seasoned to perfection, never under or over cooked, and never dry. The stuffed potatoes are also delicious, they use a really good grade of meat , beef, pork or chicken you will not be disappointed. I love everyone that works there, they never judge my okra crazied obsession (not to my face anyways lol) .Do yourself a favor and go by and support this locally owned hidden gemstone. We need more places like this to eat at where every meal they make us made with hard work, a dream to do what they love and serve good hot food to a community they love, know and live in. I'm a KC guy and definitely a KC BBQ smoke guy, so I am always suspect (and usually disappointed) of most BBQ in Chattanooga area because meats typically have very little smoke and sauces are weak. Hickory Pit is a awesome surprise. It's a small place, plus some outdoor seating. Our server was a bit green, but he did well. Family run, second generation. The jalapeño poppers and dino bites (fried cheesy broccoli) are terrific. The baby back ribs are even better -- very meaty, great dry rub smoked to perfection. The sauce was more vinegary than I like, but I prefer my ribs without sauce anyway. We will be back. read more
