I stayed at this hostel due to a hiking trip in Nordegg. This is a HI (Hosteling International) hostel, so you can book ahead of time without the need to pay or leave a deposit right away. You pay the day your stay starts. It is a very clean and welcoming hostel. The kitchen is very well equipped with all the utensils you might need to cook any meal. There are two stoves with ovens, microwave, kettle, coffee maker, pots and pans, glasses, plates, etc! You will need to wash all dishes and pots you used and put them away. There is a big table so all of your people can seat and share a meal. There is also a living room with some couches for you to sit and relax. You will find there several hiking books available and also lots of table games to enjoy :) As for bathrooms, there is one in the main level for the ladies with 2 showers and one toilet room (must be the same for the men but I didn't check that one :P) Upstairs there is another ladies bathroom with two toilet rooms and a BIG mirror (something similar for the guys I guess). There are private and shared rooms, depending on how many people are coming with you. I stayed in a shared rooms with 5 beds. If feels warmer when you sleep in the upper beds, so you might want to get a lower bunk. There is no hot tub anymore, it seems the maintenance was very expensive and they decided to remove it. You can have a fire outside and enjoy the quietness while making smores :) I highly recommend this hostel when you go hiking to Nordegg :) read more

Pretty average hostel that my friends and I stayed at between Banff and Jasper. There was a big common area and a big kitchen, and the rooms were pretty nice too. We booked a 5-bed dorm apparently (there were 4 of us) and got the place to ourselves. I've never seen a 3-bed bunkbed before but I guess there's a first time for everything! There aren't many power outlets, and the showers are super small. There's also only 2 girl showers for the entire hostel which I think is very few, and the showers aren't really separated either so it's a bit awkward. Also, my friends told me that when they were hanging out in the common area, whoever cleans the place just passively-aggressively turned the light off on them (my friend returned downstairs later to use the bathroom and she saw the lights on again and someone cleaning the area). If it's time to leave, at least say something; don't just passively-aggressively turn the lights off! Anyway, one of the (only?) cheaper options between Banff and Jasper, although you do have to drive a bit away from both parks. read more

This place is unreal. It's tucked away near the base of Coliseum Mountain and about half an hour from Nordegg, giving an awesome "I'm out of civilization but not uncomfortably so" feeling. The hostel has a communal kitchen, bunch of rooms that sleep 5 - 6, and a common area with a wood burning fireplace. This place emanates that rustic, comfy cabin feeling, but on a bigger scale. Two of the biggest highlights though, the outdoor hot tub (the only downfall being it only fits 6), and an ice climbing wall just steps from the door, and the big ass bucket of lego. Sparrow, the manager, and the rest of the staff are incredibly friendly, have some wicked life stories, and are pretty good at dealing with a cabin full of fifty drunk university students. If you're lucky you might even convince them to join in the fun for a little while! read more
