Pros: Love the ambiance/atmosphere of the shop. They play great music at a good volume for getting work done. The coffee is great. They have a nice selection of all your standard drinks, plus some interesting things like whiskey barrel cold brew. The staff was kind and welcoming. Cons: I'm a HUGE dog person, but I don't think they should be allowed *inside* cafes/restaurants where food is served. I was happily working at the bar until a girl came in with an absolutely massive Bernese moutnain dog came in and sat next to me at the bar. She was being really obnoxious, like, "Haha sorry! Look at me with my huge dog! So quirky don't worry he's nice!" Loving the attention of having this massive $3000 designer dog in the cafe. I found it extremely distracting and unsanitary while I ate my bagel to have this girl petting, playing with, whistling at, giving treats to, and baby talking this humongous/loudly panting dog at my feet. I'm all for dogs on the patio but inside is just... No. Shouldn't be allowed at a place serving food. Especially since dog allergies are so common. Won't be coming back for this reason. My breakfast bagel was nicely constructed and I enjoyed the jam, however, I found it to be excessively greasy. Draining the bacon or patting it down between the griddle & sandwich would have done wonders. Overall, I really like this place, but I'm bummed about the indoor dog policy. (This OF COURSE excludes any service dogs!) I understand if someone needs to bring their leashed pup in to order, but they should stay on the patio. I say this as an owner of three amazing dogs. Leave the pups at home if you need to sit inside. read more

This is my favorite coffee shop in the city. Love the vibes here and the staff are always so welcoming and friendly. I am such a fan of Dina's pastries - everything she makes is out of this world. If you get a chance, just get one of everything while you're there. And get a bag of the Blood Witch beans while you're at it. Super chic & unique place. My friend brought me here the first week that it opened & we've been back 2 times since. They have an awesome pastry selection, as well as quick savory bites like bagels. They have a barrel aged bourbon cold brew in addition to the normal cold brew, which I've never come across before at any of the other coffee places I frequent in Chicago. The barrel aged cold brew has an oaky bourbon taste. Definitely a cool spin on a basic cold brew. They also have an inpressive beer menu stocked with lots of popular local beers. Just what this area needed! Cute and local coffee shop where you can catch up with friends over coffee or wine. The decor is modern and elegant. The employees are super friendly. I enjoy the matcha latte and the puff pastry! The pastry was so good I had it twice in one week. I really enjoyed the Irish coffee as well. Parking is street parking only though, because the pkg lot adjacent to the coffee house says only for the apartments next door. I recently tried Hexe Coffee Co.'s cold brew coffee boneshaker bourbon. First of all, horrible name. But couldn't be nearly as horrible as the taste of this coffee itself. The idea seems fashionable but the results are horrendous. Other words that come to mind are "hot ass". I wish I could describe in more detail the taste of this horrible cold brew, but it's so bad I don't want to take another sip. Heed my advice, this $5 cute little bottle is not worth it. My wallet and bones are shaking with disappointment. read more

It's very fun for me to see this upscale cafe in the neighborhood I used to call home some years ago, in a location that used to be within a public housing complex. The march of gentrification continues, and this shop does a lot right. Beans roasted on site, offers both coffee and adult beverages, depending on your mood and time of day. The craft coffee drinks and teas are very good. Free parking behind the cafe is a plus! This is a definite stop when I'm in the neighborhood. read more

Had a bad experience and left a bad review. The owner kind of stalked me until he heard me say my name as I ordered for me and my kids. He immediately confronted me in front of other customers calling me by my name and saying, "hey you're (first and last name) and you gave us a bad review!" Clearly trying to embarrass me. I said, "shouldn't you be asking what happened and how you can make it right instead of confronting me and making everyone in here uncomfortable?" He then realized what a jacka$$ he was and told me he was sorry and that every time I come back to ask for him for a free coffee. Absolutely no way I'm doing that. The ambiance is great and so are some of the staff. For the rest of the staff, it's not actually a grave yard or a haunted house, you're not special even if you're in a band and have 2 other bartending jobs - so just be nice to the families coming in here. I actually look for any reason to take my family to any other coffee shop in the area to happily spend $80 in 10 mins on 4 drinks, 4 bakery items, and 25% gratuity for a little politeness. read more

WHAT A GEM. I have tried so many coffee shops with the hope of finding a great matcha latte in Chicago and FINALLY a place where the matcha doesn't just taste like milk. I ordered a matcha almond latte and it didn't disappoint. You can tell they aren't stingy with their matcha which I appreciate and for $6 I was extremely happy. The matcha was well blended and not chunky, it wasn't bitter, and tasted of quality. Their pastries are also fantastic. We had a cheddar bacon biscuit, a cheese ham roll (this had mustard inside which made it that much better), and an almond bar (I can't remember the name but so good & not too sweet). They don't warm up the pastries which was a bummer but nevertheless, they are sooooo bomb. I do wish they were closer to me because I'd probably go at least twice a week to do work as they have a decently large dining room. Can't wait to come back and try other things on their menu! read more

I struggled between giving this 3 or 4 stars. I've tried coffee all over and I was expecting great coffee here and it just wasn't the best, I'd rather go elsewhere. However- the pastries were great! Hexe's Coffee is coffee shop by day and bar by night. Inside, it's modern with lots of black - what I would describe as sophisticated goth. How fancy are the marble tables? To me, the darker lighting and louder conversations makes it better for group meetings and socializing than your traditional coffee shop. They had a wide open patio seating, which would be great for summer. I didn't realize they were known for their uniquely barrel aged coffees and missed out on my visit so I can't speak for the taste. Since I like introverting in quiet coffee shops, Hexe's level of noise and crowds on a weekday afternoon wasn't the best fit for my preference. The set-up seems to have more of the bar crowd in mind. read more

Honestly the employees at this place is racist. As soon as I walked in I got looks (those of color know what I mean and those who give the looks know too). All I ordered was a plain bagel and it took long. They gave the person after me their orders first and they ordered actual drinks. When I asked the lady when would the bagel be ready, she gave me a slight aggressive tone as if she was bothered about me asking for something I paid for.
