Okay, so this place is cooler than I expected…read more The recommended trail is just under 4 miles, but you can avoid the loop if you aren't up for that or you can easily extend your distance. We kept walking what we THOUGHT was the main trail and walked along the river for awhile, until it started getting rougher and less maintained, and ended up veering off trail to get back to our truck. We did about 4.5 miles, and it was mostly flat. So what's so cool about the place? 1. It's quiet. We never seen any other vehicles or people while we were there. Great for social distancing, 2. Parking and entry is free (unlike the busy park we had visited earlier today which was $10/car) 3. The wildlife! We seen a handful of large jack rabbits, some smaller rabbits, 4 river otters, tons of quail, and some larger birds. We'll definitely be back here again. Especially once the air quality clears up. Glad we discovered this gem!

With plenty of trees and water areas one could hike for hours. It is a good raft or canoe launch site as well. From what many of the locals tell me this place has a history of producing large strippers and black bass. When I went today many of the ponds were full of algae but fortunately the river ran clean. From what I gather if I had a canoe I probably would have landed some good size black bass. Unlike some of the other people fishing I did have a few bites on my line. Of course if I told you what lure I was using I would have to k.... you. Just kidding or am I?

I tried my best to capture every color in nature. However there were only a few blooming trees when we went. I thought maybe if we came at a different time of the year, we might see more blooms. I'm not sure. To be honest, it was a little underwhelming, and one of my friends expressed their disappointment. It looks larger online, and we were restricted from seeing all of the plants and trees, due to the fenced-in area. However, I enjoyed the short walk in nature, and tried to capture as many beautiful photos as I could.

Highly recommend, what a surprise. Small but well kept and looking forward to returning again.read more

When you arrive there is a large parking area but there were a few interesting characters hanging around. After walking out to the viewing area to look at the water, I saw a city crew come in to the parking lot and start taking their lunch so I felt safe enough leaving my car while I tried some of the hike. I started down the stairs and realized my dog was moving slow. On closer examination, the stairs are made with metal sticking out, probably to deter wild animals but regardless, it was cutting my dogs paw pad. I carried her down the stairs and the first thing I saw was a clowder of feral cats gathered around a huge pile of cat food someone had dumped on the trail. We walked for a bit but the high grasses concerned me and I was worried about ticks so we headed down towards the water. It was nice and I would recommend bringing a folding chair and sitting by the water far more than I would recommend the trail itself. I wasn't really feeling it and we headed back up. The trip up the stairs carrying my dog was a little daunting but good for me I'm sure. The bathrooms at this park were really disgusting and I probably wouldn't come back here but try as I might I couldn't find any other reviews of information so I wanted to add it to yelp to help others in the future.

So I swerved left and parked the car when I saw the sign for another recreation area. Then jumped out of the car, and in the water! It was probably pretty funny to watch: first I got in, and only then did I start shedding clothing. Easy access to carry a couple of chairs over the water. Some people around, who were so, so friendly! Someone gave us advice about where to sit. Another person wanted to swim across the river with me. I had a ball. Not sure if there's any facilities. There are certainly no lifeguards. There are signs that advise wearing lifejackets for safety. I think that's probably a great idea for children or those who are not strong swimmers. This river is mellow enough, but it's nothing to laugh at... All in all: This was a great place to spend an hour or so. Glad to have found it!

The aquatic portion was nice, but the ground was pretty slick and it only took about 30 seconds for my son to fall down on the concrete. The water spray is not continuous; it runs for about 5 minutes than shuts down for about 10 minutes before restarting. The long wait us pretty annoying. Overall, a good place to take kids on a hot day and to burn off some energy - just be aware of potential falls!
