There is a lot of history with this windmill, which you will definitely hear from one of the many volunteers who keep the windmill running. They are very friendly and very knowledgeable. If you go on a Thursday, that is their milling day so you can watch them grind the grains and package them. The stairs are very narrow, and eventually turn into straight ladders. So be prepared for some climbing.

The Binnenhof is the political center of The Hague and the Netherlands at large, housing both the…read moreSenate and the House of Representatives, the office of the Prime Minister, and various other governmental entities. Although not directly tied to international entities such as the UN and the International Court of Justice, places like the Binnenhof confer the same air of solemn, regal authority upon even the most hapless tourist. It *feels* like a seat of power, in a way that many other capitol buildings do not, even back home in the States, because of its antiquity and careful preservation. There history of a nation is saturated in these 800 year old stones, each of which with its own tale to tell. Visitors are allowed to attend sessions of parliament, if they happen to be in session when tourists are wandering through. During our visit, there wasn't much in the way of legislative "action" going on at the time, so the grounds were mostly clear of crowds, political or otherwise, leaving us to wander the grounds freely and take in the gorgeous gothic architecture. Along with the adjacent Rijksmuseum de Gevangenpoort, the Mauritshuis, and several other intriguing sites encircling the Hofvijver, any student of history will find no lack of things to engage their curiosity in the area.

I opted for a guided tour via Prodemos, a third-party tour service, as they are (to my knowledge) the sole entity that can lead visitors into the Dutch First and Second Houses. These sorts of tours are rarely, if ever, truly riveting. If you've visited another national legislature, you know access to various spaces is generally limited and tour commentary can be pretty dry. Binnenhof both proves the rule and the exception--I only got to see two spaces within the complex not open to the anyone simply choosing to stroll through the courtyard (the Senate Chamber and the House of Representatives; the Hall of Knights was closed during my visit). Limited access, however, only knocks one star off of the experience. I'm raising this three stars for non-Dutch speakers because of disparity between pre-recorded, non-Dutch audioguides and the commentary offered by the tour guide. I opted for the English audio guide and quickly found myself quite bored. My tour guide, on the other hand, was exciting and engaging--I could tell from watching the people on my tour. If you speak Dutch, this could easily be a good or even top-notch experience. As for everyone else, I don't think a paid visit to the complex is worth the cost or the boredom--just stroll through.

This is the only city gate remaining in Delft, and it's a stunning view at night - I posted a few pics so you'd see. :) There isn't anything to pay for, or go inside, or tour - it's just a beautiful monument to medieval Delft, and something that you can easily add to your walking itinerary. Paleis Noordeinde (English Translation: Noordeinde Palace) is a stunning palace, in the city centre…read moreof The Hague, it is one of the three official palaces of the Dutch royal family and is currently used as the King's office for his work. The central location means you won't have to go too far out of your way to visit here, when in De Haag Centre, as it's just down the street from many of the city's shops and other tourist attractions. The palace is a beautiful and well-maintained building, with a nice public square in front, with The statue of Willem van Oranje. The palace is not always open to the public to view inside, but you are always able to view it from the street, while most the most spectacular palace in the world, and it might not have the same international prestige of Buckingham Palace, there's just something I like about this place and it adds a lot of character to a great city. 4*

The scale of some of the painting is phenomenal! My only qualm would be that it wasn't obvious where to get the leaflet from so I had no idea what paintings I was looking at (except for a few more famous ones). Lovely way to take a moment out of your busy day and appreciate the art. I really enjoyed the prison exhibit in the same location. It was harrowing to see some of the old torture devices and read about the ways prisoners were held. If you're visiting with children, I think they'd really enjoy the prison exhibit. The passage way with the old cells was very cool to see! It is not clear at all how the layout of this museum works so I'd advise researching before you go so you don't miss anything. When I first got there I thought it was only the painting gallery room! I was also told I could go to a museum across the street to see a particular painting, only to get there and find out that painting is in Amsterdam!

This art collection consists of one very large room and one very small room filled almost floor to ceiling with paintings. I agree with the other reviewer that it's pretty difficult to see the paintings high on the wall, and with some glare from external lighting. A visit should take less than half an hour, barring crowded conditions. The entry fee is very affordable, given that it's a private collection; pro-tip: visit the Mauritshuis, and that ticket will earn you complimentary admission to this collection. They also allowed me to redeem the offer the following day, when I visited the other museum on a day this gallery was closed.
