I had an EV, Torrance Gibbs was able to fix it while I went to Garage, he is quick, sharp, highly helpful and knowledgeable. People like him make a difference... 20 years back my dream was to drive a Jeep... Sahara Jeep Wrangler... this was my dream it was costing around 30K or 40K i believe 2 decades ago. That came true, because of Torrance Gibbs intervention. I was so worried that I have never driven EV before, I was not sure what happens if something happens on electrical, where do i go... Those things were lingering. He made it easy and made it workable so that too my dream come true of driving a jeep. On the checkout Shannon was highly reasonable, quick and efficient. She can do checkout in a timely manner ...informed that I should get an email. They should be recognized. They are a great asset to this Location, CHS, SC Thanks & Best Regards, Earlier: Kathy, who is quick, sharp, intelligent and can manage many things and make the line shorter with her quick, efficient way of working - she helps both Avis and Budget in no time. She does not give reason- she noticed there were so many people ,so she came immediately from office to help clear the queue, very considerate, who were standing in CHS, SC in North Charleston (line/queue for Budget and Avis) while we came from Southwest Airlines from Baltimore, MD (February 21st 2024-Wednesday)- there were many passengers in the queue, she came and knocked off so quick and in an amicable way. Another good person to appreciate is Ms. Vickie at the gate where we had to exit from the parking lot , after she validates the license plate for the Budget car(if it is rented for you) and checks my (Florida) license to ensure we have a valid license, right rental amazingly effective. Other than the above, Good Management in Avis-Budget in Corporate is Rita Schols-Deen(Regional Administrator Global Travel, Partnerships & Associations). I reserved a car months in advance. There was only one person working at the desk inside the…read moreairport. He tried his best to handle it all but the demand kept coming. I waited in line 2 hours just to get to the desk and be informed there were no cars available; but I could wait an additional 30mins for one. I waited and walked all the way out to the garage where I found out the car assigned to me was already rented out and they'd double booked it. The gentleman at the outdoor kiosk told me all that was left was a GMC Sierra, a full size pickup truck which I had zero interest in. I was then informed I could trade it in in the morning, which cuts into my plans and wastes gas which I was responsible for.

I got a decent deal (slightly less than $50 a day) and at the counter there was no line (there was a huge line for Budget). After an easy check-in, I went to get a car from the rental lot. I signed up for a compact SUV and there were 5 available. I got the Ford Escape and it was clean inside, no scratches, full tank of gas, and no weird smells. I drove it around for a couple days and returned it easily within 5 minutes at the end of my stay. I got my full deposit back. Overall, I'm satisfied with the cost, convenience, and ease of renting from Alamo.

We were too far away to got back so I contacted Alamo and was told that they would make some allowances on out bill for the nasty stinking inconvenience of the car. Well, on sunny days we were fine, but, at night and on rainy days, 50% of our trip, we were stuck. Our clothes even reeked of cigarettes. Well, lo and behold, when we got the bill we got absolutely ZERO consideration for the nasty car. Imagine that. We travel a fair amount and will refuse any Alamo rental or any of the other rental car companies that they own or control. In this day and age to have a car like that is intolerable.

I don't care if we are 2 or 6, if you are saying the shuttle is available in 15 minutes, do send it within that time window. We reached the rental counter, it is 3-4 miles away from the airport, and it is just like your neighborhood rental agency. Not a fancy agency, with no crowd, we got our car, inspected it, did some signatures, completed the formalities and we're good to go. The car was good, we completed our trip and returned the car in very good condition. (we don't smoke, drink, or throw trash in the car), not even candy wrapper. They inspected it and it was all good. Luckily this time we found the shuttle on the spot, so reached the airport in 5 minutes. We did pick up and drop off our car at noon, but it's not 24x7 so be mindful of that. Overall experience was smooth, with no hassle, they delivered the car that was booked. Not trying to sell anything extra.. overall 4/5

However, you still get hit with a lot of fees including an airport tax! Waited 40+ mins in line because there were only 2 people checking in and one of the people didn't have his insurance information including policy number and expiration date (yes, they ask... seriously?) Car wasn't washed or vacuumed and had stains on the seats despite it being a newer car with only 20k miles. The woman helping us washed it quickly but the vacuum was not available. 20+ mins more and we were finally able to go. Car had dings and dents all over the place and some bad ones too - I made sure to take pictures in case there were issues later. Upon return, delay again because no one was at the counter. Finally someone came out. Said shuttle was down so they were bringing people in a minivan back and forth and limited to 4 people. Lenny, our driver back to the airport started by saying "Hi, I accept tips"... yep. Got it. He didn't even handle our carry-on, we did. Got to the airport after him telling us a lot of wild stories, and we left to go inside and he said "What, no tip? See.. I knew it!" Great southern charm, Lenny. Car is roughly $35/day plus all kinds of fees -- so be careful. I'd stick with the on site places. This was no bargain.

I get to the car rental line for Avis and there are at least 50 people in line in front of me an one (1) poor man working the counter. I have never seen anything like this in my life. I sent my wife and kids to the hotel in a cab because I literally may be here for 3 more hours. I don't understand how this can possibly happen. A complete breakdown in management responsibilities at Avis corporate. UPDATE: I left and took a cab to my hotel. I did return the next morning early to the airport and there was no line and I got a beautiful nice car.

I presented a VISA debit/card and a Master card VISA debit/card which all I had. I was told neither could be accepted because they weren't strictly credit cards. I advised them there was plenty of money available and they could put a hold on either card. The attendant was extremely rude. Exclaimed over and over that it wasn't her policy, she just worked there. Very unprofessional. Terrible customer service. Never again Avis/Budget, never again.

Rude Manager (Diana). Keys thrown at me. Half mile walk to the cars and no instructions and signs…read moredown. I visited the location at Charleston International Airport on April 4th, 2026. Hertz promotes the "skip the counter feature" and "use our name boards". Now imagine the frustration of taking the 15 minute walk to the name boards to find them turned off and no employees in the booth. Now you walk back to the counter, hoping to sign in. Now, I made a major mistake. I booked at the wrong location. We were working with a kind representative that was doing her best to assist us. She said, "please hold for a minute while I get my supervisor to support". The supervisor, Diana, comes over and looks at the reservation on my phone and says "wrong location, book them as a I walk in and I'm not honoring anything". We try to explain the issue and how we made a mistake and if there was anything that could be done. Diana responded saying, "we don't have anything like that, we have a dodge ram but I ain't honoring anything, we aren't part of that" that being the Hertz organization and later explained they are a franchise. The representative that helped us was wonderful, and clearly under immense pressure trying to give us the best experience while balancing working under such a course and unforgiving supervisor. Diana, once our reservation threw the set of keys at me and said "you were supposed to catch, and had the representative (who is elderly) pick the keys up as they had fallen behind the counter. As a President Circle member, return customer, and frankly, a human being, I expect and deserve kindness and a willingness to help from someone like Diana. The way she treated her employees, her customers (myself) and the company property (expensive key fobs) is unacceptable and should be dealt with. Diana cannot continue to treat customers or her staff like this. There are no words to describe the disgust I felt, and frankly in a moment that I needed an understanding customer service representative. She does not reflect what Hertz is all about and should be properly dealt with.
