DO NOT RENT FROM HERE. Horrible location. Rented a car there, the check-in was rushed, was given incorrect information regarding the rental, the exterior of the car was dirty with very visible dirty and bird poop. The tank was not full, though I was told it was and stupidly didn't check it before I pulled out of the parking lot, when I realized it was 3/4 full (seems like a common scam here as I have seen this in other reviews). I used the E-Z pass supplied in the car, and received a charge of $78 when I only went through 2 tolls, totaling $39. I had to call and dispute it, which I won. First and last time using this location, and will hesitate using Hertz overall. read more

Terrible customer service agent at the front desk, tried to get a rental for a week and was met by an employee who simply doesn't want to do his job. No hi how are you, no what are you looking for. Just met with "prices online are cheaper" and "do you have a debit or credit card" the unprofessionalism received was beyond belief. I have rented from the Fairfield spot multiple times and have never had any problems at this location. I most appreciate that they are open on Sundays. I will NEVER deal with Hertz AGAIN!!!! Because of this location. The vehicle was not full of gas (thought I wouldn't notice). Smelled of smoke. Charged extra fees (even though I went through my insurance). I was not supposed to be charged for a reservation to begin with. But have to wait to get my money back. This extremely unkind man looked at me in disgust as I came in to rent a car. I had rental agreement from online and he ailed to honor it. He hinted that the reason that he wasn't honoring it was due to the high rates cars were going for during this holiday weekend. Though he had tons of cars in his lot, he told me that he did't have one available for me. I would not recommend this rental place to anyone and I am definitely going to write a letter to the BBB regarding this. Poor customer service!! read more

This little Hertz location has friendly workers, and the car I got (Mitsubishi Galant) was in good condition. I booked the car online, to save some money, and got a great deal on the Hertz website. With my AAA card I got some extra discount on top of this already low price. Rented the car for 4 days and paid $86.05 Can't beat that!!! read more

I am a Hertz Elite customer and received a car half the size of what I requested (requested an SUV and received an Altima). I am heading on a family vacation and now need to bring two cars to counteract the utter incompetence of this company. I never leave reviews for anything but no one should have to deal with the horrible customer service here. I was covered by the person that hit my car's insurance for a mid sized sedan. Insurance made the reservation and sent me the reservation number. When getting to hertz the asked my name and said we have nothing for you. Told them I had a reservation and to please look up the reservation number that I have. They stated that if my last name isn't coming up they they don't have the reservation. Completely refused to even humor me by looking up the number. This was the manager by the way. They said because they didn't have a reservation and nothing connecting it to the insurance, id have to put down a deposit for $223 instead of the $50. Fine whatever I was already in there for 45 min (no line) and I needed to leave. So I did it. They gave me a Ford Fiesta. As I'm leaving I realize I can't see out of the back of this car at all, even after adjusting the seat (I'm 5') and the car shakes like crazy. I also call the insurance company and they confirm the reservation number. I call back to hertz with 2 problems. I need to switch the car and the reservation. I had not even realized at this point that that gave me a smaller car than what I'm covered for. When I give the guy the reservation number it comes up right away, the insurance company just made a mistake and put it to Bridgeport instead but had they looked it up originally they would have seen that. I brought the car in to switch and they tried giving me the equivalent model in other makes. None of them worked, I realized at that point that I was covered for more than the cheapest model so I asked for the mid sized car I am covered for. They finally reveal that they only have compact and full size. Gave me a whole problem about giving me a full size still when they literally didn't have what I was covered for. Guy acted like he was doing me a favor finally giving in. It would maybe be ok if I was being a brat and just wanted a nicer car, but even then they still have to give what you're covered for at a minimum, but I literally couldn't see out of any of the compacts and it was unsafe to drive. I return the car on a Friday and the hold is still on my account 8 days later. I call and they say it should be off in 5-7 days and the balance shows 0. I call back after 8 days, guy says they never closed my account, should be off in 3. 4 days later I check back to make sure they actually closed it because it's still there. Guy says it's out of his hands now and to take it up with the bank if it's not resolved. I asked if there's anything they could do for me because of all the issues, maybe a credit for the next time or something. Nothing. I've never seen such consistent terrible customer service in my life. Wish I remembered the managers name because This wasn't just some low level employee that didn't know what he was doing. Had a car rented from here long-term, my first rental during this pandemic, so I was somewhat worried but needed this for work. The woman at the front desk - I sadly did not get her name, she was wonderful and so helpful! - outlined the cleaning process, which put me at ease. Plus, the car was cleaned and sealed for extra reassurance. She also upgraded my rental when I initially got the cheapest option, which made things so much easier for me (with more room in the car!). I thought Enterprise was bad. Hertz is the worst. They rented me a car with lots of scrapes and scratches which reeked of cigarette smoke. I causes a minor dent when their employee pulled behind me in their parking lot. They tell me it it the customer's responsibility to request a walk around when you rent a car. They want $800 in damages and lost revenue. I am disgusted with the way Hertz does business. Never again. read more

I would not recommend using Hertz, especially the Hertz rental agency in Fairfield, CT. From trying to ask questions to drop off of the car, the customer service and experience were horrible. It would be worth to pay a more and not have to deal with this agency. I attempted to ask a few questions prior to renting the car, I was placed on hold for over 15 minutes and then told to call back later. When I called back later, my questions were rushed and not adequately answered. When picking up the car, the agent was more interested in trying to add additional cost, instead of trying to explain procedures adequately. The car was dirty and had many scratches. Lastly, no one was at the agency when I was told to return the car. When I tried to call the customer service line, I was hung up once and had to call back again. I was told to just leave the car in an open lot and take pictures to document the gas and mileage. Extremely poor customer service. read more

If I could do a quarter-star, I would. I've rented from them 3 or 4 times. The cars are rarely ready for delivery, and are often in poor shape. The last straw came the last time I rented from them. I mistakenly left some electronic items in the car, and when I called them to inform them, they said they did not find my items and the car was already re-rented. Crap. The next day the car was in the lot. I called and spoke with the manager who said she'd call me right back, and of course never did. Corporate was no help, either. Don't know how they are allowed to display the "Hertz" name. Before the bad, the good..most workers behind the desk are helpful and hardworking. They are just understaffed, overworked, and clearly not given the support needed by management to provide quality service. Just walking into the office tells you everything you need to know. It's filthy...has been for years. They clearly have no problem working in filth, and hence have no problem providing filthy cars. Have been renting from here for years (because they are the only Hertz in the area), and have consistently been given dirty cars. At most they are given a cursory wipe down and sprayed with febreze. I have never seen a high quality car on the lot. Clean or otherwise. If company didn't make us use Hertz, I would never go here. Hoping a new office opens somewhere remotely close. Manager should be fired and replaced by someone who gives a s**t. Feel bad for people who have to work here...they are destined to fail due to poor management. read more

The ladies at the front desk we kind and helpful. Both made polite conversation and asked about our trip. Since I have AAA I automatically went with Hertz because they offer a great deal, but this Hertz was awesome. The ladies upgraded our car from a basic (Nissan Versa) to a nice Hybrid car! It was Perfect because we were driving through several different states, and it saved us a lot of $ on gas! It was a great upgrade:) upon returning the car, we needed to drop the car off and walk to the train station in Fairfield, and Stephani offered to give us a ride to the train station so we wouldn't have to walk with our suticases. They went above and beyond to accommodate me with a car that has satellite radio. We got a flat on I-95 on our trip from New Haven to Manhattan. Although our AAA card was used to get the tire changed, we were very concerned about continuing the journey around NYC. We couldn't spend the time to get the real tire actually fixed because we had a critical appt. in Manhattan. The real tire took up all the space in the trunk, leaving our luggage exposed in the back seat. We called the Hertz assistance line, asked them to replace the car, where they called this location, and were told there were no cars. We drove into the parking lot and there were at least 3 of the same cars. We went into the office and the woman said she couldn't help us. In other words, they have no spare cars if you need them to replace their own cars, what if the engine had broken, would they send me to wait at a dealership? The woman behind the counter had no good reason not to rent to us and get a backup car from Hertz corporation. Hertz needs to stock them for emergencies. We were terrified for the rest of our journey in that car and ended up bringing it to JFK where they have a lot of cars. read more

The one bright spot at this office is Monique. She really tries to help people. Otherwise, this Hertz Loca Edition needs an overhaul. They never have enough cars, there's absolutely no Gold Service. But don't penalize Monique. The Gang at Hertz needs to help her shape up that place! If you are going to rent from here, don't do it on a Saturday or Sunday in summer. Car wasn't clean. Needed a whole lot of Armorall. Outside was still dripping with water when they gave it to me. Dirt, grass & grime imbedded on front license plate and under front grill. Front headlights still dirty. No windshield washer fluid. Bone dry. Tires bald. Lady at counter drinking a very large iced Dunkin Donut coffee slurping loudly through the straw while doing my paperwork. Credit holds are too high. The man who picked me up to get there was very nice, professional and polite. Overall, go to Enterprise. They're much more professional. read more
