I'm sad I didn't catch her name because she deserved a shout out. She was friendly, professional and efficient. As an Executive VIP with National, she gave me a few choices in the car I received. Sometimes you are offered cars begrudgingly but she seemed thrilled with the choices she had for me. The airport has some construction going on so the cars are located in the long term parking lot. So make sure you go by the counter and get your key, regardless of your status with them. Once you get your car it is easy to head out of the airport. Returning is a bit confusing. Follow the signs back to the long term parking lot. You park your car back in the long term parking lot and return your key to the counter. I'm still not sure if I was supposed to park it in the same space that I picked it up from. But I told the same lovely lady what space I parked it in and she said, "great". Drop off was easy. When I received the car it was just over half full with gas. I returned it almost full. When I mentioned that when I returned it she offered a credit and apologized. I wasn't expecting that but it sure was appreciated. I will definitely rent my next car from them.

Short wait time to get my vehicles and drop them off. Service is excellent, except when dropping off the Cadillac I almost got charged for it because the employee forgot to note the free upgrade.. thankfully after a little while I got that situation resolved. If for some reason, I ever need to rent a car again in the area... I will rent it from here.

I noticed when I picked the vehicle up that it had less than half a tank of gas so I snapped a photo of the milage and gas before I drove off, just in case. Turned it back in in Chicago and didn't get to talk to anyone because we were catching a flight. Got the statement a whole later and we were charged an EXTRA $200. I got the paperwork out from pickup and noticed the miles on the paperwork at pickup didn't match the miles from the picture I took. Avis was terrible to work with trying to get it rectified and they even blamed us for the issue. Such a bad experience.

Should have stayed with the good companies, enterprise, Hertz, etc. NEVER RENT FROM AVIS. After a frustrating trip from Seattle to Detroit for my monthly visit with my family, I was stuck in Chicago. Airline offered me a flight to Ft. Wayne, where I could rent a car and drive almost 3 hrs home. In a hurry, I got AVIS number (BIG mistake) and they promised to have a car ready and track my flight (provided at the time of reservation) to wait for me with everything ready. They made sure I could have peace of mind as my flight was short (40 minutes) and even though I'd be 5 or 10 minutes after their closing time, they would track it on the monitors and have things rolling for a quick rental. Told the agent I never rented from them, but I was already in the plane and did not have the Hertz/Enterprise number with me. He said so many "We'll take care of you" that I even thought they would have...To my surprise, of course not anymore after reading about this shady company, I was at their counter 10 minutes past closure (as expected and informed to the booking agent) and...nobody was there...there was no car waiting...no "in-and-out", nobody to "take care of me". Most enraging thing was to see that the flight monitors were RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEIR COUNTER. I patiently called the booking agents (after dialing '0' almost 100 times on their terrible phone system) and the agent said that there was some "clause in the booking policy, item x.y.z that states that...". At that point I interrupted him, and he offered me to "book car for the next morning...". Are you KIDDING ME ? I'm stuck in the middle of nowhere in the Midwest in a tiny airport that has no cabs, no hotels, no restaurants and specially with NO WAY TO GET ANYWHERE because you could not keep your word. NO, I DO NOT WANT TO SIT AND WAIT FOR 8 HOURS THAT I SHOULD BE SPENDING WITH MY KIDS and enjoying my little baby turning 1. And about your shady policy "clause", let me know when I book there is a clause saying that what you PROMISED "might" not be true if you decide so. Summarizing, my wife had to wake my 2 kids up at 1 am and drive 3 hours to pick me up because these CHUMPS could not keep their promise and wait for 10 minutes. DO NOT RENT FROM AVIS. Despite the fact that this is one of the quickest airports I have experienced in getting in and out…read moreof it, it lacks many of the amenities one is used to at most big city and metro airports I've experienced. A major advantage here is its proximity to the city itself. Yet, I don't deem it a bad one. In my occasions to regularly travel yet not a professional airport reviewer by any means, and not a business traveler - but a mainly fun and demands trekker, I have developed as succinct a process for measuring the worthiness of each airport visited. My criteria are: 1) ease of access to and from public or private ground transportation: 4.0; 2) convenient parking when having to leave vehicle or dropping off: 4.0; 3) access and convenience of retrieving and dropping off rental vehicles: 3.5; 4) atmosphere, ambience, public facilities, seating areas and access to communications, charging and Wi-Fi: 3.5; 5) overall human customer service - including but not limited to ticket counter, TSA, Hospitality, Retail, Support Services, Restaurant and Baggage Handler knowledge, communication, attitude and demeanor: 3.0; 6) ease of flight information access throughout facility via signage, boards, screens or clear understandable PA system announcements: 3.5; 7) distance, maneuverability, access and convenience of trekking from gate to gate and/or concourse to concourse for connecting flights: 4.0; 8) quantity, value, convenience, quality and comfort of eateries and/or retailers: 3.0; and last, but not least 9) baggage handling, claims and retrieval location, process and lost and found assistance: 4.5. Taking all the aforementioned categories, I've devised a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being the worst and 5 being the best an airport can be! This airport rates a: 4.1. Most positive point(s) at this airport are: few and far between, but considering its construction phase, easy to maneuver, clean yet maize like. The most negative points here are: again, the lack of amenities plus. One caveat, while visiting this airport there was a considerable amount of construction in progress, which I am sure affected the overall outcome of my review. I therefore retain a prerogative to reevaluate Ft. Wayne International at a later date.
