I visited the Herrick Gallery on Friday evening for a preview event to celebrate the launch of Amelia Allen's documentary photographic book, Naked Britain. The culmination of a 2-year research project into naturism in contemporary Britain, well known fashion, celebrity and street photographer Amelia has turned her lens affectionately on the naturist community. Some of the 80 photographs in the book are on display in the gallery and they're joyous. The notoriously private naturist community gave Amelia unprecedented access to a number of naturist clubs, events and swims. The resultant exhibition and book, a celebration of the joy, freedom, fun and activism in the community.
The Herrick Gallery is sited next to Cambridge House, a short walk from Green Park tube station. A nice compact gallery, well laid out although disabled access to the lower level would be an issue for some and worth mentioning. The Director Alex Herrick a practising artist herself, has created an intimate, friendly space to showcase both established and up-and-coming artists. Add it to your London tour, it's well worth a visit. read more
