This is a hidden gem in the middle of no where! They have all the last minute ingredients for any meal, a great selection of craft beer and also great prices on custom cuts of beef at the butcher counter. If you don't see it ask, they hide stuff in the back like "Carne Asada" my favorite are there fresh stuffed hot Italian sausage! This is the place to stop on that back country drive from Palm Springs, Yucca Valley to Victorville and Barstow. The Hero Market has a little of everything - A deli, A liquor store, A large convienience store and a full menu restaurant. Oh yes .... and gas. The atmosphere and cleanliness of the restaurant may scare you but the food is pretty good. Hero's, has a huge menu - the day we were the specials were Chicken fried steak for breakfast, 2 chicken sandwiches for $5.00 - lunch and Pork chop dinner $7.99. Each time I have visited there are a number of locals eating there and giving advice like " the bean soup is very good." It reminds me of a small scale truck stop. My experience there was very bad tonight. First thing I ordered was not fixed, clearly an error on the cook. So he prepared me something else and was ice cold in the center. I agree with David G about the current help but it's been the night cooks that I've had problems with. Also the quantity and Quality has decreased. It use to be so good all the time. Worst breakfast ever!... Old food on floors by both that looks like it wasn't cleaned up from the night before. Ordered breakfast for 2 people and was shocked when they brought it out. Both plates had bacon on them that was way undercooked and covered in grease. We sent them back only to have it come back to us still not cooked. Eggs and hashbrowns were burnt. This is the last outpost on a deserted road... Walk in the door with that in mind and be pleasantly surprised! Some great grub, nearly anything you order will put a smile on your face. Sometimes the servers are a little colorful but always prompt and courteous. If you get breakfast, anything with Sausage is amazing... they make the patties on site. Lunch, Burger or Beef Dip with well done fries (Steak fries) The store itself is like a magic box, you may not always find what you want but you will nearly always find what you need. I am disappointed in heros market. If you go there you will notice no prices on anything which allowed them to charge whatever they want. If you go to their restaurant you will notice the ticket you get to pay for your meal only has the price of your food on it. It is not calculated with tax which leaves them open to charge whatever they want for tax. Your not going to check upon paying. They are also constantly changing their pay methods. First they don't charge for debit or credit purchases then they do. Then they just charge for Christ purchases and now, they charge fir both. Unacceptable. Worse place ever not a real dinner or fast food they lack experience, meat appears to be spoiling dress it up with salad mix dressing heavy, not cooked correctly, thats the dinner, store is a mess, over priced items, some are expired, they dont check ID for liqour products not cigs, poor mgmt, NO customer service, and if your passing thru your get really over charged, not as indicated by price label, out side is extermely dirty, oil spat all over the gas station, poor quality control on propane, yes some workers are extremely friendly if you give them a tip. short change you when your not careful, and using ebt or debit make sure your not getting double charged for products not service or render. the odors from the septic tank are noted, not friendly advice. best get your gas at circle K or arco....even their propane and fuel are over charged read more

Absolutely foul. Don't order the so-called burrito. It's more like a wrap. I had the asada burrito. It was steak with cold green spread and unmelted cheese. Puke. It is even worse watching a cook go into the restroom, come out on his phone, and then continue to use it as he stands around. When are the health agencies going to realize how dirty peoples phones are, when they Facebook on the toilet, and continue to use them while they are working at a food establishment. Wow! What a disaster! Pulled in to get dinner. Ordered our food and sat down. Waited 30 minutes before our drinks were brought to us. I inquired as to why it was taking so long to get our food. I noticed that ppl that came in after us were getting their food,and hanging around in the kitchen with the cook. Finally my burger came and it and the fries were stone cold. Obviously had been sitting on a shelf while the employees bs'd with their tweeker buddies. Sent that back. Then my wifes tacos came. They were also cold. Her beans and rice came 10 minutes later. But no silverware or napkins. Had to ask for those as well as a refill of our drinks because the waitress never checked on us. Then my replacement burger came. Was pretty bad. We ate what we could and left after being there almost 2 hrs. I do not recommend this place. Total waste of time and food and money here. read more

Agin very disappointed in this store. If you have cash and can't get to another store you are 50 50 chance going to be ok. I have been coming to this store for years and now the will not let you use your card as a cc it is now there chose so they can charge you a fee. Now the first time I was told if you have a chip you can not use it as a cc now they tell me chip or no chip if it has a visa on it you can not use it as a cc. This is one of those times when its so bad, you have to tell everyone about it when you get home. We had lunch here today. This review is just for the kitchen/restaurant. My wife ordered a carne asada burrito. The burrito was good size. The side of fries she got was fine too. But the meat in the burrito...well, you couldn't really call it meat. This "cook" must've pulled out the fattiest, inedible piece of meat they could find. And then they grilled it. And then they cut it up. And then they rolled it into a burrito. And then they sent it out for my wife to eat. About halfway through her burrito; a giant pile of gristle and fat that she'd pulled out of her mouth on the side of her plate, I took the plate back up to the cook (i will not try to describe the cook because it would be offensive) wouldn't even come over to help me. They just yelled from across the kitchen, "What you need, buddy?" I asked them if they cooked the burrito; they said yes. I pointed at the pile of fat and they said "What wrong?". So I said, pointing,"This is all fat. This is not carne asada." They said they don't prep the meat, they just cook and shrugged their shoulders as they took the plate. "You go get money back.", they said. I told them to make my wife a bean and cheese burrito because she was hungry. They nodded from the flat top and proceeded to make my wife a watery, lukewarm excuse for a bean burrito that came unrolled on the first bite. There are people that have bad days and then there are people that just don't care and take no pride in their work. The only reason this person hasn't been extremely fired has to be because they can't find a replacement this far out in the desert. In the middle of the desert (Landers) there is this oasis called Hero Market. They have everything you possibly need here from fresh meat, fuel, beer to a great deli. I recently stopped at Hero for breakfast and it was pretty good and the staff was very friendly. The service at the restaurant was very attentive and funny. My husband and I (a little burned out from camping) stopped here for gas and a quick breakfast sandwich for the road before heading home.
