Drastically under quoted claim to insurer - $5k to replaster and repaint ceilings in 5 rooms! What a joke - now back on us to try and find alternative quotes in a market where it's hard enough to find builders to do work let alone provide a written quote. A frustrating waste of time! read more

Our claim was declined because of a leaking shower screen. Their plumber Mick was very helpful and was able to locate the leak with a thermal camera (Was really cool to watch). Mathew from Hernan Building was very polite and informed me of the policy coverage and why it's not covered. I was able to replace the screen seal and the leak had stopped. Would recommend them again for leak inspections. read more

Send in a report dismissing my claim as he stated that the damage to the skirting boards and mound on wall couldn't be isolated to this one flood in the garage. Tried to say my house was 64 years old when it was only built in 1985. Also reckons I said I had had numerous floods which over time could have caused the damage. I had one minor water leakage in the garage from a previous incident but didn't go anywhere near the skirts or caused mold on walls. Very unhappy at the moment. Big dump of clear water (about 20 litres) appeared in a downstairs bedroom, which is located directly below the laundry (where the hot water cylinder had recently leaked & been replaced) and adjacent to a bathroom, which had been used in the usual manner. AAMI Insurance uses Hernan as their assessor, so a builder & a plumber were sent to investigate & report. Neither could find any reason for the dump of water. There is a 20cm tile that has lifted slightly in the shower bay & a couple of 1mm gaps in the silicone. Hernan pointed this out to me, saying "it wants fixing, but there's no way you could get that much water down there all at once". He wrote the exact opposite in his report to AAMI! He also recommended the claim be denied, which means we still don't know what the problem was, whether it will happen again, or whether we'll be covered by our insurance if it does!
