Our daughter has been enrolled at Learning Tree of Fletcher for just over a year now. We sat down with one of the owners and from the beginning we had a very positive and welcoming feeling from both owners Jen and Kevin. We felt the environment and the goals set in place were exactly what we were looking for in childcare and Pre-K. We were made aware of the pricing and fees before we signed any paper work. They let us know the cameras in the facility were to maintain a goal of total transparency and safety for children and their parents, however in the beginning they did have to work out the kinks in the system to allow the cameras to go live through a password protected portal online. They use what's called "Smartcare" which is an app that allows you to get updates on what the children are doing as far as activities, meals, nap, and play. They also on regular basis will take pictures and upload them during the day so you can see everything they're are doing in and out of the classroom. Also you can download the picture from the app for your own personal collection. Also within the app you can use the barcode provided to sign your child in and out if the center. You can pay your bill and see a breakdown of cost and also follow a link to their website. For Security you have a lock code that opens the door to the center and every parent has a personal lock code that is not to be shared. They do have annual enrollment fees like all centers we have visited and no hidden fees, which is great. Through the course of the year that our daughter has been enrolled, the center has put up a privacy fence, picnic tables with umbrellas and their camera system is now live online(with password protection) I know they're also looking into resurfacing the outside play area and upgrading their toys and outdoor activities. Our daughter has strived at Learning Tree. Her language and development are above or on pace for her age. Communication with teachers and the owners is great. They're very involved and always willing to stop and talk with you. They were great with potty training assistance. They do not start potty training until they are in the 2 and up class, but only took a few weeks once we began. They do parties and encourage families to attend and take part in activities. They had events for Mothers and Fathers day which was really nice. This is great facility that is still improving! My only complaints were in the beginning they had staff turnover, but Kevin and Jen are very particular in their expectations and some of the former staff were not meeting what I feel their "High Standards" were. Also the parking is tight and I know that's something they're exploring to improve. I know this is a lot of information to absorb but this is for our children after all and nothing is more important than knowing your child is safe throughout the day and is getting the proper care and preparation to be ready for Kindergarten!!! They were very open and honest with us parents about everything going on and decisions they made. Our son just started kindergarten and he was so well prepared because of the curriculum and teachers he had at Learning Tree! However, when you go there, you'll notice that there's not a whole lot of members. This is for a number of reasons- and none of them good, appealing, or worth mentioning here. Instead, let's talk about their motto. I am a strong believer in it, and feel that all gyms should espouse such an attitude in both the staff and users/members. Want to be a douche-bro bodybuilder or the type that posts stealth pictures of others that are trying to get healthy? Go to Gold's or just plain go home. If, though, you are looking for a friendly, encouraging, protective, non-judgmental, lunkhead-free place, let me recommend the Hendersonville YMCA. So, let's start at the very beginning; the moment you walk, expect to be treated like a human being by both the staff and volunteers. If you ask for one, expect to receive a facilities tour that is detailed, that will cover all expectations of their services, equipment, programs, and general member-offerings. So now you have an idea of what the Y offers, and decide to pull the trigger and get a membership. Rather than have them tornado you with a bunch of confusing plans (emphasizing the most expensive), they'll take the time to ask questions such as how often you'll be using their facilities, do you have kids, a spouse, will any of them be on the plan, what are your future plans, what do you expect to have? Since they aren't commision driven, you'll be presented with one, possibly two options that will best fit your needs and budget. And the best part? No need to give them a blank, signed check "for the routing number", like the other place. They're part of the 21st century, and able to link to your credit card or checking account. Now, let's talk about the facilities. Admittedly, the equipment is neither new or on the cutting edge. But I'm of the school-of-thought that it doesn't need to be, and find most of what you see for sale in sports equipment stores or see advertised as being nothing more than marketing attempts to start/cash-in on a fad. Instead, what's available is working and well-maintained. And from your tour, you'll see that there is a large variety, that will definitely cover your exercise needs. The swimming pool is very well maintained and always comfortably warm. I don't like the amount of chlorine that is used. But seeing that everyone from infants to older-than-toddlers share the pool, it's kind of necessary. Something should be said about the parking lot, provided by the Y; mainly the idea that when you leave your vehicle, it won't be broken into, unlike the other place. The bottom line is this: if you need a place that will help you get into a healthy shape, or even maintain, give them a serious look-into.

Camp Pinnacle is one awesome summer camp for kids ages 6-14. This was my home away from home for…read moremost of my childhood (now 30+ years ago) but it was so worth going. I was up at Pinnacle this past weekend for their annual Open House and Grand Revealing of their new Dining Hall. It was so breath taking to see all the great new improvements. I arrived and the staff welcomed me and provided some nice refreshments after driving. I was then able to walk the property again (had been around 7 years since I was last there) and was just amazed. The camp has a long great history and several famous historical people are on their alumni roster including the late General William Westmoreland. Consider checking out camp for your kids. It's a life changing event where they make real friends for life and not on a computer screen. The camp is an "unplugged" camp for the campers, so kids, leave your electronics at home and time to learn real friendships. I know I did and I was so thrilled to see a childhood friend this past weekend that I hadn't seen in 30+ years.

There are many opportunities for mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, backpacking, water sports, as well as traditional camp activities. Lots of time for creativity, singing, campfires, and good old-fashioned FUN! The food has been consistently another thing our boys rave about - good variety, healthy options, ample portions, and always fresh - served with a smile by Richard and his crew. No electronics; and no one minds, at all! We have seen such growth and confidence and increased love of the outdoors in both our sons as a result of their wonderful experiences at both Camp Pinnacle and their adventure / outdoor experience travel camp, Adventure Treks. The sense of community, shared responsibilities, and camaraderie... We've never had a moment's worry or lost a night of sleep while our kids have been at either Camp Pinnacle or backcountry with Adventure Treks. We can't thank you enough for your efforts, at all levels. From the logistics/planning/support team headquartered in NC to trip leaders, everything is seamless; we appreciate it!
