Honestly. I've been to their other restaurant and loved it! I was excited to go to this one.. but it's no where near that ambiance or service. The food was terrible and the drinks were low fueled and food was very small portions versus what you get at their San Juan location. The place was half full but their still make you wait over an hour in a line just to create commotion that the place is backed with a line that's not needed. People actually left waiting because it made no sense. Having worked in a restaurant before I was appalled that the servers were only sitting down a set of people every 10 min as a way to market from the outside that the line to get in was long. The foods recipe was nowhere near the style their other restaurant performs and the prices are inflated while everything is small portion and dry. Honestly I was just going to be my absurd 95 dollars and move on with my life... However. When their Instagram posted this it really upset me and many others in Oceanside. The menu clearly has the works texas bbq on it and has the words texas style on it numerous times. They are lying to the customers in oceanside. Then they post about it in a disrespectful way. Heritage Brewery and Barbecue was awesome. The atmosphere was that of a Texas Bbq and bar all into one. The location is also amazing, cant wait to come back during those warm summer nights. To start we ordered the Texas Queso and I added Pulled Pork for an additional $8. TheTexas Queso was perfect. It was just as I remembered it from back in Texas with the perfect subtle smoky cheesy & spice flavor. As for the meats we ordered Tri-Tip, Brisket, and the Pork Ribs. We also ordered a side of Charro Beans. All of the meats were great. This is going to be the closest to Texas BBQ that you will find in California. In Texas you will be served white bread with your bbq but here they serve you, what seems to be, house made flour tortillas. Im all for tradition but having fresh made flour tortillas instead of white bread took it up a notch. To go along with all this food we ordered the Charro Beans. I wasn't expecting much but beans and Texas BBQ go hand in hand. As soon as I saw the beans I knew we were in for a treat. The flavor was outstanding and they went perfectly with the meal. Newly open, so I will give it the benefit of the doubt! But as of right now would give 2 out of 5. They have some things to work out. Was excited to try this since I have heard high reviews of Heritage BBQ out of San Juan Capistrano. This spot had a a little bit of a different take though! It's more Mexican and BBQ. I included pictures of the menu. Ordering system was a little confusing. It was a mix of ordering from the bar and some servers who would wait on you outside. Was a little difficult to track a server to get basic needs such as napkins, utensils, and to close out. For food we ordered x2 the Carolina and Mac & Queso. For drinks we ordered cherries jubilee (slushee) & my cousin Vinny (beer) , & hello oside (beer). It was over $70 and took an hour for food to get delivered to us. Was decent, but not really worth the price. We also witnessed a younger family wait longer than us because apparently their food order ticket was lost. Today was the second time we visited. The first time was in January. On that first visit, they did not have a traditional bbq plate but rather items with bbq meats in them. I had the chili which is possibly the best chili I ever had. My husband had a brisket taco which was incredibly tender-fall-off-the-bone meat and very filling for a single taco. I'm also a big fan of the Helles Yeah beer, which is their own beer. I was super looking forward to the chili again when we visited today. However, they had their brunch menu which does not have chili on it but it did have actual bbq plates. We ordered the brisket, tri tip, Mac n cheese and potato salad, and the meat orders came with the most delicious homemade tortillas. Again the brisket was fall-off-the-bone perfection, the Tri tip was sooo flavorful, the Mac in cheese was so goey and cheesy, the potato salad was tangy. It was all amazing. We order fries, super salty, pulled pork sandwich zero flavor, no spice at all - where's the BBQ sauce at least?? We also got 2 meat combo the smoked turkey was just ok, tri tip again zero flavor. Potato salad was most likely the worst I've ever had and the Mac and cheese - meh. The place was uncomfortably cold, even the second bartender put on her coat after she walked in. As we left we saw a guy go to his car for his jacket and jackets for his family. Was excited to try this place after a 13 mile walk because we came hungry ended up cold and disappointed. Overall really enjoyed this place! There's a lot of poor reviews due to service, but we experienced pretty good service! There was a short line and seemed less busy so maybe that's why. We waited in line for maybe 10 minutes and were seated outside with our dogs. Someone came to take our order quickly and food came out pretty quick. Staff was also very friendly. We did have to get up and look for someone to get us extra bbq sauce but this isn't a high end restaurant so I wasn't too bothered by that. For the food, we got the Queso, wedge salad, Texas Chilli Mac, chopped brisket Sando and Carolina sando. Our favorite was easily the Queso so good, and totally reminded us of Queso in Texas! We overall really enjoyed the sides, they were tasty, good portioned and made us want to come back! The so so ratings on the sandwich is due to the bread. It ruined the sandwich for us. It was dry and chewy. The meat and flavors inside were delicious so it was a serious shame. I think if they find a new bread supplier, the sandwich would have been a 5/5 and would have given a 5 star rating. Whenever I see that it makes me think the business is trying to deflect from peoples bad experiences so I put my honest review on both pages A few things were great and a few things not so great. The gross: 2 orders of Mac and cheese. One had no cheese and was too Al dente and the second order was drowning in cheese sauce. Which was almost a neon orange-yellow. Very unappetizing in appearance and taste. Actually had almost no taste for how cheesy that one was. Chili had a taste like someone poured a shot of beer in it before serving it to us. The consistency is also not what you might be expecting. It was like chili topping? As if regular chili was puréed hard. There is no sweetener for the unsweetened iced tea. Never ever go to a place on opening day. I said let's wait till they get their feet wet but no they wanted to stand in line for five hours to eat here and then were very disappointed. I do not think the food was that bad but the price was $$$ for what we got. The service was terrible and the way that people got seated was BS. I will not get into all the BS we were told about why some were seating outside or others that were behind us were now done eating because they sat at the bar, which was not supposed to happen. Communication was lost this day but I told my friends it would be nuts and I was right. So back to the food. I personally thought the BBQ brisket was good but I wanted more sauce. If you are going to call it a Carolina (pulled pork) then you had better have the vinegar to go with it and you need to put more slaw on it. Came right at opening midweek and hunkered down at the bar. The tenders knew everything and loved their craft and were full of suggestions and knew the food just as well. The pastrami sammy - esp the fatty bites- were melt-in-your-seat amazing. I had to try the Carolina bbq, having been raised on it, and although good, it as not like home, but the guys behind the bar were curious on my thoughts, as they'd never actually had the real thing. My husband and I decided to make the drive from Orange to Oceanside today to give this place a try today. We have already been to their place in San Juan Capistrano so we heard of them opening this place a few weeks ago so we had to go and try it. We arrived around 11:30 it wasn't to busy but gradually it got busier. It's a very nice looking restaurant, love the cozy furniture and the bar looks pretty cool too. My husband and I started with some drinks and an appetizer. I ordered a mix drink with tequila and mezcal ( sorry I forgot the name) it was very refreshing and not to strong. My husband ordered a beer. For starters we went with the Queso and accompanied it with pulled pork. It comes with nicely seasoned tortilla chips. It has a nice kick to it but not overly spicy. Then we shared the brisket taco that comes in a flour tortilla and some pico de gallo. It was also very delicious. We also had to try the macaroni and cheese and it didn't disappoint. Since we were sharing our plates we had to try something else and we decided to go with something different and ordered the bahn mi sandwich with both pork belly and brisket. You can order it with just pork belly or just brisket we decided to have with both meats. It is served with either fries, chips or pork rinds(chicharron) we went with the pork rinds. I can see why it's a favorite here. The veggies- cucumbers, carrots, cilantro and daikon we nice and fresh. The bread roll was nice and soft and not to crispy. I would definitely come back again for this sandwich. We couldn't leave without dessert! We ordered their banana pudding . I guess they change it up but today it came with some buñuelos and chopped strawberries. Let's just say we ordered a small size and it was perfect for the two of us . So we have seen this place going up for a bit now, and without checking reviews said sure why not. I was in the mood for bbq, and what luck there is a new place open. It was a Friday night and assumed there would be a long wait, but figured we would risk it. What a shock no wait which thinking back should of been a red flag. When asked inside or out we said inside and they proceeded to sit us in their outside dining area whatever we can deal. Three minutes after sitting down a patron next to us said don't bother save your money and go. (Flag two) We ordered a little of everything and to say I was disappointed would be a understatement. Every single thing we ordered was not worth the time to eat. The only thing that was the hero was the coleslaw with blue cheese crumbles. Everything else was such a waste of money. Also, fun fact apparently they will not cater to drink requests that are not the custom gross ones on the menu. For example when the wife asked for a Paloma the waitress replied with " yea we don't do those". The portions are so small you have to basically over order to make it worth eating, and then you get hit with a $150 bill. The guy next to us literally said he was leaving to go get In and Out that's how small their meals were. Side not their pork ribs (only two) in a order were the smallest ribs I have ever seen. This place is incredible. The best bbq I have had in a long time. My six year old who eats like once a year gobbled up her food. She even tried some of my brisket and chili. The food was delicious. We are also thankful for the military discount. Every staff member was friendly. Adam was our server and was so sweet to my daughter. It was the best dining experience I have had in a long time. We've been wanting to try Heritage BBQ at the San Juan Capistrano location for quite a while now. The biggest things holding us back are we really didn't like the seating situation or just buying meat by the pound. Since this location opened and they're doing something different with the menu, we figured it was about time to give it a try. We came on a Saturday afternoon around lunchtime. We thought the place would be packed but we actually got lucky. We were able to get right in and get seated quickly. The service was good. Nothing spectacular but they got us in and out and got the food to us without any issues. We ordered The Carolina, The Chopped Brisket, and the Texas chili. I will say this first and foremost. I don't eat barbecue often although I do like it. I am definitely far from a barbecue connoisseur. I'm kind of picky in the way that I don't like fatty meat. None of the meat here was fatty, which was awesome. The buns on the sandwiches as well as the meat were really good. No complaints there. I just wasn't blown away like I was hoping considering all the hype the other location gets with the Michelin star and all. The chili was very unique, and I definitely liked it. Would I get it again? Probably not. I'd probably try something different. This is going to sound strange to most people, but the biggest star of the show for me was the house made mustard on the Carolina. I love mustard. Theirs was perfect. So much flavor and it really kicked up the sandwich. We didn't try any of the drinks from the bar so I can't comment on that. Maybe next time. I know this isn't exactly a glowing review, but that's more on me and having super high expectations for this place. One thing I will say that I have heard complained about is the pricing here. Is it expensive? Yes, but what isn't nowadays? I definitely think they give you a lot of food for your money. You will be full and you will be satisfied with the food. Had a reservation for 6pm tonight which was a Saturday evening. I've been here once before and while service was slow the food was good so I came back because I chalked the slow service up to how busy they were (it was so so crowded last time I came). When we got here the place had many open tables, I'd say 65-70% open tables. We were seated in a timely manner and the hostess did ask our preference of table which was nice. But then as soon as we sat down we didn't see our waitress for maybe around 15 minutes at least. She came by and was very nice, took our drink and appetizer order and asked us about any questions and went over bits of the menu. Our drinks took 35-40 minutes to come out after we ordered them. We tried to flag a few people down but to no avail. We also only saw our server once in that time frame to which she very briefly came by and said she was waiting for us to get our drinks and quickly jetted off before we could add anything. We got the appetizer of queso shortly after and it was decent, a bit cold though. Got our drinks 5-7 minutes after that interaction with her. She came by again and asked us for our orders. I ordered the Carolina and my friend went to order the baked potato. She said that they were out. We didn't say but we were thinking, that would have been nice to know from the start when she was going over everything with us, especially after sitting so long waiting thinking we had our order to then order on the fly, he ended up ordering their tacos. Food didn't take too long to come out maybe another 15-20 minutes. We had the queso sitting in our stomachs for quite awhile so we weren't even super hungry when the food finally came. My sandwich was incredibly salty, I had pieces of the bark from the top which I normally love, I'm a huge bbq fan. But they were fatty, gristly and tasted of pure salt. So I went to pick them all out. The rest of the sandwich was still salty but okay. The slaw has an almost floral taste to it, I did not care for it. Onion rings and fries were decent. Mac and cheese was also average. My friends tacos were fine too, he said he did like the meat in them but they were again really salty. Finally saw our waitress again maybe in another 20+ minutes and just asked for the check. Boxed our leftovers and just left. I do like the inside of this place as it is nice. But the service here always leaves a lot to be desired. I think they were understaffed but also I think a bigger part is that they don't have the management to know where they need to be and how to interact. It was apparent people were trying to do several jobs and manage several tables etc, it just doesn't seem super attainable especially since it's a fairly big place. We did not feel good after eating our food either. So after the crummy level of service, the about average cold food and then not feeling so hot, I don't think we will be back. You can't find a beer menu online anywhere so you'll never know what they're pouring, but it's likely to be the same stale, mediocre offerings as last time. The mustard that is served with the sausage was OUT of this world! The sausage was pretty dense, and not described well when we asked about it but still flavorful and yummy. The mac & cheese was super creamy, but lacked slightly in flavor. I would probably choose a different side. But the coleslaw... I would hands-down get it again! It was so tasty, crisp and delicious. After a long wait of wanting to try this new location, unfortunately we had a terrible experience. We showed up right before noon for lunch and it wasn't very busy then. The staff seemed disorganized and it took a long time to take our order and even to bring just water. Then after we finally placed our order we waited and waited and our food didn't show up for a long time. We asked the waitress to check on our food but nothing still. She followed by telling us that they aren't accepting cards and it's cash only which they should have mentioned to begin with. I guess we'll never know if the food was good or not. The food never showed up and we ended up leaving hungry and unhappy. This place was clearly short staffed and should just have an order at the counter system so this doesn't happen. We went to Heritage for the first time today for dinner and it was delicious! We ordered the family platter with tri tip, pulled pork, and ribs. We got the potato salad sides, coleslaw and fries. The meat was all cooked really well! My favorite was the ribs. And the BBQ sauce was yummy! The potato salad and coleslaw were okay. They were yummy but I wish the potato salad had a little more salt. My family thought the coleslaw was too sour. My husband got the Cubano and he said it was good but tasted a little bland. Same thing with the chili, it was good but we have had better. Our server Ariel was extremely kind and attentive. She was awesome! Service review for Sunday afternoon (4/27), our waitress/bartender was not good at her job. They were not busy, maybe 6 people in the bar side, so we sat at a high top, it took the bartender (our waitress) around 5 minutes to come say hi. We had to ask the hostess who our waiter was. Drinks came out fast, we gave an appetizer order (queso) it came out not that warm and not as fast as the guests next to us who ordered the same after us. Then we placed our order with the bartender, she cleaned up our appetizer and utensils, it was about 15 minutes with no plates or main dish, we asked the waitress how much longer for our food, and she asked "who took your order", we told her "you did", she went to the bar, came back and said she never input our order. He seemed shy and not the best quality for a server. We ordered 4 beers and queso to start. Not surprising, the queso arrived before the beer. Unfortunately that was the theme for the evening. The food was good, highlights were: beef ribs, pork belly burnt ends, potato salad, cole slaw and pickled veggies. The service was quite slow but maybe he was having an off night so we might give it another try.
