Heritage academy was probably the worst elementary school. I went here for about 5 years and it was terrible. The principle had her grandchildren go here and favored them and did the most for them to be in the head of the musicals at school and pretty much the rest of us were chop liver. They suck at dealing with problems when I was younger I got my period early in elementary school and I never brought pads to school because I was young and didn't really know what it was and I went to the nurses office and she got mad because I kept coming in which made me feel terrible. They also favored kids I remember I wore shorts that were a inch off from the dress code and they made me wear a Kilt. A kilt. And I was humiliated, the next day a girl comes in (principles granddaughter) wears shorts that were way shorter then the dress code and no one did anything. Another experience I had was I was put on adhd medication when I was younger and it took my appetite away and my teacher would always force me to eat and would make comments to my mom about me not eating which turned into a bigger problem when I was older. I started to get insecure my last year I was there and I wore a hoodie everyday because I hated how I looked and the staff would always make comments about it but I didn't want to because I hit puberty super young , younger than everyone else so I had body hair and I was ashamed but the school didn't help me they just made comments. I was looking at high schools for a friend and decided to check in on my review of Heritage. I now have 2 sons that have graduated from there. Both have gone on to prestigious Bay Area middle schools and are thriving. I still believe this is the best elementary school in the Bay Area. The foundation that Heritage has given my kids both spiritually and academically has carried them through middle school and now high school. I read a less favorable review out loud to my son who graduated and he stopped me while reading to say-none of that is true!! Heritage is a family and yes, the principal has grandchildren there, but we have not seen any favoritism. Both of my sons were leads in the spring musical. My second son stays in touch with the school nurse and considers her a spiritual mentor. She now worked as a youth minister and many kids and teens view her the same. I still have one son at Heiratge and feel so fortunate to be able to drop him off for in-person teaching. Heritage applied for a waiver and the kids have been back to school since September. They has done an excellent job with safety protocols and they have continued to host class online for those families that did not feel comfortable sending their kids to school. Like my oldest two, my youngest loves Heritage. I am very grateful to the teachers and staff there. If you are looking for a loving, academically strong Christian school, I highly recommend Heriatge Academy. read more

We pulled our son out of Mountain View Public Schools to go to Heritage Academy, and we will never look back. Our son is doing 10 times better at Heritage Academy, his math is exceeding our expectations, he is learning science, history and social skills as part of the curriculum. Every day we receive notes on progress in class, and the end of the week we get an email of a review of the whole classes accomplishments and what is expected for the next week. My son is now teaching ME facts I didn't know... and he's in the 3rd grade. :) Our only regret, is that we didn't find Heritage Academy sooner! read more

A couple years ago we made the big decision to pull our kids from public school because of the class sizes, some problems with our school meeting our kids academic needs, and needing a place where we felt our kids were really being cared for. We looked around a lot and found schools that were too intense (not enough room for being kids) and some that were not much different in terms of class size and challenges as our public school. In the end, no other school could match Heritage in terms of balancing academic rigors, individualized teaching, and providing the "extras".. When I met with the principal, Marilyn Davidson, for the first time I could just feel that Heritage was different and special. I knew very soon in our consideration of this school that it was where I wanted our kids to be. I have absolutely no regrets about our decision and have felt great love, care and attentiveness from all the staff toward my children. My daughter and sons have each been nurtured and cared for individually in the ways that were most important to them. For my daughter this meant teaching a lot of organizational skills and some thoughtful consideration in providing her stretching challenges that helped her grow academically. For one of my sons, this meant the school accommodating him in working at an advanced level in math and insightful instruction in spite of his being a very introverted, quiet fellow. The Core Knowledge Curriculum Heritage uses really weaves all the subjects together, so that kids get a wonderfully rich perspective on the things they're learning across varying subject matter. The academics have been rigorous and challenging without being overwhelming or discouraging. In addition to providing a wonderful academic environment for our kids, the school does a lot of really special *extras* that create a real feeling of unity and joy among the kids and families. This has greatly enhanced our family's experience with the school and has helped build a terrific community for our family. As I have observed the staff interact with the children, I have really grown to appreciate how lovingly and carefully this school approaches the business of growing the whole child. Our son is in his third year at Heritage Academy, and we love it! It has become in a sense a second family. The small class size partnered with the love of Jesus is exactly what we were looking for in a school for our son. He loves going to school every day and is super excited to share with us what he has learned. With such a small class size, the teachers are able to work with each child, providing more individualized attention. There is always lots of open communication with his teacher and the office staff with regards to his academic progress as well as how he is doing overall at school. The staff really know each child by name as well as their family. Every morning there is prayer time where the children can ask for prayer for a family member, upcoming test, or something they are struggling with. Our son has really flourished at Heritage Academy. We are so happy to have him in an environment were we can pray for each other, and speak the name of Jesus openly! read more

As my first grade daughter and I were chatting last night, I realized that I needed to come on here and let other parents know just how incredible Heritage Academy is! I asked her what she was enjoying about school, and she expressed how happy she is with her teacher, her friends, the activities they do, and what they are learning. She then began to tell me how much she loves all the memorization they are doing. I could not believe the long poems and Scripture that she recited for me! I have never seen a school that values individual children as well as Heritage. Her teachers are incredibly aware of how she is doing as a student, how she interacts with her peers, and how best to help support her and encourage her in her education and social sphere. The curriculum is unparalleled, and I could not be more overjoyed that we have her there. She LOVES going to school every morning! We cannot wait to send both of our boys to join her in the next couple of years!! read more

We have been looking for a good Christian school for our son for awhile and we were drawn to Heritage Academy by its small class size and excellent reviews. Unfortunately our experience with the School was more than disappointing and I want to share with my fellow parents why... First of all, my husband and I agreed that this School or the Principle seems to have a tight invisible circle drawn around what they expect your kid to be like. If he/she fits in there perfectly then yes the school and its small community is quite lovely and friendly, but if he/she does not - they couldn't wait to get rid of you sooner. And unfortunately in our case, the way things were handled by the school, made me sad and furious every time I think about it. On the Monday of our son's 6th week at Heritage Academy, I got a call from the Principle at noon notifying me that it would be our son's last day at the School. There was no face-to-face, no warnings, no heads-ups, no "till the end of the week or even just a couple of days so that you can figure out what to do with an 8-year old who will be without a school" - we were let go, just like that. Without getting into too much personal and private information, let me just say that the reason the Principle gave me was around "inappropriate behavior in the classroom", including uses of words such as "stupid", "frigging" and some other things. Now I know my kid well, he is a bright, energetic, sweet but could get silly type of boy, and he could be a handful at times. I believed in some of the things the Principle said he did, but not all of it. But regardless of what I believed and what he actually did do or did not do, if he is too much of a kid for this school to care for and to help, I don't think it is good for him to go there anyways. So even though I was devastated by the Principle's sudden decision and the fact that we were given zero grace period to plan and to prepare, I was embracing the situation and actually ok to deal with the problem. At the end of the school day, I picked up our son and asked him, "So buddy how did school go for you today? What happened?" He pulled out this "great job teamwork" certificate his teacher gave him that very day and said to me "It was great! I got a prize." Then he smiled at me so sweetly, "Mommy, are you proud of me?" I bursted into tears at that moment due to the overwhelming emotions & thoughts, and wasn't sure what to say to him... Apparently, neither the Principle nor his teacher said anything to him about his eviction from the school. And we as parents were left alone to break the heart-broken news to our poor child who was clueless about what happened, and why it happened. The school could have at least given him a precise and coherent message. What a shame! Needless to say that at the end of it, our son was very sad that he didn't even get the chance to say goodbye properly to his class, "when I am finally starting to make some friends", he said. The bottom-line? This school doesn't like and couldn't deal with differences, or hardship, or conflicts. You give Christian School a bad name, Heritage. read more

Heritage Academy is definitely a blessing to our daughter as they provide an excellent growth mindset based curriculum and Christ-centered teaching to its students. Our daughter is truly happy to be there and have learned incredibly well thanks to the impressive teacher-to-student ratio that enable teachers to connect with all the students at an individual basis. For example they don't take the "one-size fits all" but attentively observe (and respects) how each child learns differently and at her own pace, and adjust the courses accordingly. In our opinion, where the school stands out the most is its deep care in building character and teaching the Christian values - where we continued to be thankful for as we see how it's reflected in what our daughter thinks and does everyday. read more

Our son is almost finished with his first year at Heritage Academy. I couldn't be happier with the quality of education, as well as the integration of Christian values and teachings, he has experienced. The class size is big enough to give the kids a sense of community yet small enough for them to receive the attention required for their unique needs. Our son is the type of child that is a home-body and not drawn to the school environment in general. But at Heritage, he genuinely enjoys going to school because of the staff, the size, the values, and the way the programming is structured. We've seen him make huge strides in his learning abilities. I'd highly recommend Heritage Academy to anyone who is looking for an educational environment that offers creative learning opportunities, provides enough structure that produces a safe and consistent space, while also offering enough free play time, exercise and activities to keep young kids with high energy levels engaged. All the staff are wonderful, truly, which I believe is a direct result of Marilyn Davidson's (the principal and founder) leadership and example. Heritage is a gift to our entire family! We tried Transitional Kindergarten at a public school for our son and it was worse than I even anticipated. We tried home school for Kindergarten, and although there were some wonderful elements to HS, it wasn't for us. I hesitated to enroll my son in private school due to the expense, but it is worth every penny and more! The director, Marilyn Davidson, is as kind as she is intelligent. Her leadership sets a tone of order, respect, appreciation for education, and fun for the kids! My son who was very anxious about attending school, especially with a horrible experience in his past, assimilated so quickly it shocked me. He talks about his teacher, Mrs. Koch, like she is an angel from heaven itself. I can't say enough about Heritage. When you nudge your child into the world not only of education, but the world of influence from a hundred varying directions, you want to be sure that the environment you place him or her in is conducive to not only intellectual growth, but to spiritual growth. My daughter went to Heritage Academy for 5th grade. We decided to pull her out of the public schools for several reasons, including class sizes over 30, inexperienced teaching, and some bullying issues that were not satisfactorily resolved. It was a wonderful experience for my daughter. The teachers and staff were professional and supportive, and my daughter thrived academically. They are not a proponent of busy work homework, and value a child's ability to spend quality time with her family, have time to do extra-curricular activities, and have time to relax. Seeing my daughter go to school at Heritage made me feel like I was looking at a school when I was growing up...where class sizes are small and there is a balance between education, instilling core values to raise responsible children, and a priority on family. If you are looking for a wholesome, loving environment, with a strong curriculum, then Heritage Academy is a school you should strongly consider. read more

We found Heritage when we could not find a school in Redwood City because all the ones we applied had no openings. I am so thankful for a neighbor who told me about Heritage but I questioned the drive. Although we live in Portola Valley now, the commute time is about the same and I would even drive a longer distance just to continue my kids' fabulous educational experience there. The administration is easy, the education is superior, the children are all friends and all of the teachers are loving, fair and wonderful people. I have nothing to complain about... only thankfulness that we found this school. My kids are excited to learn and they are learning content that I did not even learn in highschool and I have an MBA. I am really impressed with the curriculum that Heritage uses including Singapore math, Core Knowledge Sequence and First Focus for reading. I also love the homework philosophy that gives each family flexibility that can really work if you have a lot of after school sports and activities like we do. There are NOT pages and pages of busy work like at other schools. It is more in line with studying for a test that week or 'practice math' and you can choose apps, or written pages, quizzing verbally, however and whichever works best for your family. Love this school but more importantly, my kids are thriving there the last 3 years that they have been enrolled. The staff is quick to address any questions I have had and super easy to talk to. read more
