According to our waiter, the "must try" appetizer was the crispy pork belly topped with guava paste, but more than the taste of this item, I loved the presentation, as the six bite-sized pieces were plated on a pink plate topped with a pig head cover! The best way to get a good sampling of their offerings was the 8-course tasting menu, which featured numerous small bites, an entree, and two dessert courses. 1. Countryside Flavors - Pork shank terrine, pork tartare, pork with couscous, ora pro nobis (an edible leaf), and an earthy pork crackling bread with mortadella and brown butter. 2. Using Your Hands - Sweet potato steamed bun topped with Milanese pork, roasted pork empadinha with cream cheese and couscous farofa, pork in a can (shredded pork fritter), and a miso pork broth. 3. Raw Pork - Pork loin carpaccio with salad and a pork crackling. 4. Pork + Shrimp - Dumplings filled with cotechino and shrimp, all in a toasted vegetable broth. 5. Fond Memories - Pork rib, corn & cheese foam, and ground maize chips. 6. San Ze Pork - This entree course centered around two super tender pieces of fatty roasted pork, pork sausage, and a number of vegetable sides including couve, okra with peanuts, farofa, beans with eggs, and banana tartare. Definitely a highlight! 7. From the cow's udders - The only course with no pork, this dessert came with vanilla ice cream, rice pudding, yogurt, milk foam, crunchy peanuts, toffee caramel, and toasted breadcrumbs. 8. Sweets + Black Coffee - Mid roast black coffee from Minas Gerais, strawberry sorbet/jam in a cone, cured cheese with pumpkin jam, candied banana, milk caramel, and a chocolate-covered pork crackling. What a feast of the senses and a must-try restaurant for any foodie! My favorite courses included the pork crackling bread from Countryside Flavors, the pork empadinha from Using Your Hands, and every component of the main course, the San Ze Pork! The service was super friendly and explained everything we were tasting, and the menu came at a reasonable price for the high quality and creativity of the dishes!

Yelp Review 2025 #167:…read more One of Latam's 50 Best Restaurants and Michelin Big Gourmand is A Casa do Porco or the House of the Pig. Aptly named since they raise their own pigs in a farm and they make sure they follow practices that are humane and sustainable. Feeding people with respect to the environment. They use the whole pig and nothing gets wasted. I made a dinner reservation a month in advance through their website. It was a simple process. I stopped by for lunch too and there was a line out the door for people without reservations. They do have a takeout window to the side of the restaurant if you want something like a sandwich. You can do their tasting menu or do a la carte. It'll end up cheaper if you did the tasting menu than a la carte. However, I have been eating my way around São Paulo and I knew I would be struggling to finish a lot of food plus, I had a 7am flight the next day. So, I ordered a la carte. I wanted the San Ze Pig (roast pig) but it's too much food. Torresmo de Pancetta + Goiabada + Picles de Cebola Roxa: Crispy pork cracklings topped with a thick sauce made with pickled red onions, and guava. You get 6 pieces. Definitely get this. It was crispy, salty and sweet. Sushi de Papada de Porco + Tucupi Negro + Ameixa fermentada: Pork sushi brushed with black tucupi (sauce made from fermented manioc which looks and tastes similar to balsamic vinegar) and fermented plum. It looks like unagi nigiri. You get 4 pieces per order. I was not given utensils. The items I ordered were meant to be eaten using your fingers. The interior and exterior seem very casual. There's graffiti outside the building and inside the restaurant. Even when you look in Google Maps, it doesn't look like it's a restaurant but an abandoned building. By the time I contemplated adding the San Ze Pig, I was already done with my meal and it was time for me to go back to the hotel. You can check out their menu on their website which you could translate to English to save time on making your selections. They also have menus in English if you ask for it. Service was great and helpful. It was nice light dinner.

Unless your Portuguese is good, you gotta go with a local. They assign an entry card to each person which allows you to wander the open seating areas and order and drink from different locations, this is something rarely seen in the US. Your total is tabulated from this assigned card, so don't lose or trade it. For Americans and Europeans, the benefit of Brazil is the strength of our currencies which makes everything about 65%-70% off of equivalent food and drinks in the US at the time of this writing (July 2022.) Check out the site: https://bardosarcos.com.br/en/home/ It's true, this place is built underground and you go downstairs to a large basement area that's been completely redone. Well appointed and freedom to move from place to place. This is not a restaurant, it's a bar that also served great food. This is not your sit-down dinner place, think mobile and meeting lots of people outside of your circle. Don't be shy.... Service is not like the US, it's important to have an aggressive local to help flag down the wait staff, once you do, the service is great. They hire an attractive staff so it's fun to interact. Food-wise - excellent- some were better than others, splitting into two groups: Top Picks: Coxinha Quinteto Desculpe o Aue Sertao Pegando Fogo (Best dish of the night) Baiao do Mar Vatapa All Drinks (props to the bar, they ain't messin' around) Next Level Below: Manifesto Regionalista Classic Arco Gnocchi Existe Amor em SP Grain Salad Would return again, bring your date and a local (or just a local date, haha) Obrigado

I told him that I had eaten there the night before and had no problem in getting tap water. He then went back and brought us the vinagrete without the food. Then after about 30 minutes, our food arrived and it did not taste as good as the day before. The meats were dried and did not taste well. They did not dished the food as they did the day before. They were talking with a couple , who was seating behind us and telling them that the restaurant had a much cheaper option for burgers, which they did not told us. Anyways, experience was bad. While staying at a hotel about .8 miles away (Ca'd'oro), I decided to bravely walk here through…read moresome questionable (and sometimes very stinky) streets for some lamb that I saw in Yelp. There were some scary people hanging around the destination but I continued my brave but perhaps Quixotic quest and FOUND IT: "PASV" in large letters reassured me to quit looking at the street and walk right in! I saw some entries on the menu that said "Lombo" so I assumed it was lamb but wanted to make sure. As a typical American (only speaking one language=English) I had trouble with the Portuguese menu and the server was trying to understand as he watched my arms flailing. The next table had exactly what I wanted, so I pointed to their dish and roughly said "que esta?" He said "Cordeiro." I was confused about the unfamiliar name so I pointed at my phone that was asking for a password for the PASV restaurant's wifi, and the kind server quickly entered the password. Ahhh, now I can translate their beautiful language into my one-and-only language of 66 years. The free wifi translated for me and nicely told me what I interpreted to be: "you idiot, "lombo" is "loin" not "lamb" and listen to the waiter: Cordeiro is what you want! Why don't you go to community college and learn something other than English?" The next problem was that there were two entries for Cordeiro. One had 1/2 next to it for 55 reals and the other had a name that translated to "red hot" for 90 reals. I wanted a half serving but it was confusing because it didn't say "red hot." I tried to tell the guy I wanted red hot (not fresh from the fridge) and he nodded. In the end I got the 55 real version. Well, it turns out that the entire section of the menu meant "red hot" so all I did was get a half order -- 3 strips of lamb in a beautifully unfamiliar cut as my photo shows. And I'm glad because it was plenty! And it was just-barbecued hot in spite of not having the moniker. It came with a big serving of big broccoli (not a typo--it was so big it was maybe a little overdone for the "leaves" but a little underdone for the large stalks), some mystery onion + whatever "salad" (which was excellent), a piece of flavorful yet soft bread (which I found on the bill to be about 1 dollar US extra), and a huge serving of rice and fat fries ("Steak fries" in the US). My total bill for the fabulous lamb was 68 reals = about $16 US at today's exchange rate. Maybe my 5 star rating has to do with the good price, but the lamb had both attributes: quality and quantity. I'm quite full now and ready for my harrowing and long taxi trip to the airport, thank you!

There were certainly plenty of Japanese speaking customers mixed in with Portuguese. And I, the odd tourist, felt right at home. The bamboo shoot and shitake mushroom appetizers were delectable. The chicken broth ramen was insipid. The Gyukatsu Kare (breaded fried beef with curry sauce over rice) was better, but not the ultra crispy panko planks I've had in some places. Maybe it was because I ordered it at the end of the night. The Brazilian brewed cold sake was really good. Could hardly tell the difference from Japanese sake. But, the highlight of the dinner of Sanma Shio--grilled pike mackerel with sea salt. Inexpensive for Sanma, uber fresh, grilled crispy so that you could crunch up the head and tail! The service was prompt, efficient and very warm. Even the owner came by to chat several times. Arigato gozaimasu! Obrigado! Thank you.

Something to keep in mind if you're considering going here and you're a visitor. Other than that, the food is pretty standard izakaya fare- not that much of a Brazilian influence from what we could tell. And we're very familiar with the genre (tons of these in the NYC) so we knew what to expect. The food is pretty tasty and the service was pretty good. The restaurant kinda feels like you walked into someone's kitchen which is pretty interesting. But overall we've actually had much better Japanese food. So there's that. But not a bad option if you're looking for something completely different in São Paulo.
