The mechanics are not honest to customers. Their attitude is bad when you ask questions or have a dispute of the charge. Be very careful; their diagnosis may not be true and their estimate is not based on the true problem. I do not recommend Hendy auto repair. I have very bad experience there. read more

If I could give a negative review I would. Called ahead talked to Mark who assured me he could do a valve adjust on my 2002 odyssey for $550-600. Told me I could bring it in on Saturday he it would take the whole day but that he would get it done. Three days later I got my van back. Only for it to run in worse condition than when I had dropped it off in. I disputed the charge for the work done and returned to mark who once again kept my car for another three days. He then calls me and tells me he's fixed my car knows what the problem is. But won't tell me till I pay him. So I pay him in good faith only to drive away and have to turn right back. My van is now in worse condition than ever. Has new issues that didn't even exist. Power steering was fine, now it's completely destroyed. Engine won't stop misfiring even with Mark saying he "fixed" it. Don't go here unless you want to be ripped off and have your car completely destroyed and un driveable. read more

I would highly recommend Hendy Auto Repair. I called Mark this morning when my car's starter battery died. I told him that I would really like to have my car back in a few hours. He ran some diagnostics and identified that I needed to order a special replacement battery from Toyota. He was great with keeping me informed of the cost estimate and ETA for when my car would be ready. He got the job done ahead of his original estimate. I was very happy. Great guys I dropped off my infinity after taking it to multiple places that could not figure out what was wrong with it, they called me back and told me what it was cost me $1000 but it's fixed and I don't have to worry no more. I moved in almost across the street from Hendy Auto in 2010. They were close so I tried them for service issues like oil changes and tune ups first. They would show me the plugs so I knew I really didn't need new ones. They saved me money immediately. Mark treated me very fairly (maybe more on my side than his) with complete respect and honesty from our first interaction. Traditional was ask for service, get an estimate, if approved, work done quickly and professionally. Always very flexible to accommodate SV schedule. Major brake I could start on the side road, then take it in for what I couldn't do. Saved me when I was unemployed and needed the car for the search. Hendy worked with me and my budget to get the car safe and running well. There was another place, a couple blocks away, that ripped me for over 4K and trashed my car to zero value (blew my turbo as they "tested it") because I trusted them. They are now out of business, as they should be, but Hendy service continues from when Sunnyvale was known as Murphy Station. Historical trust! Mark has not always owned it. But he wasn't born when the original built the local trust at the current location, rail side, when fruit and nuts ruled. (Maybe they still do!) This station has history! (as does the one across the street that needs saving our historical gas station beauty as we transition into a electric future. That place needs a quick charge/quick homemade foods, and some music) I moved last year north and escaped the valley, where self interest is so overwhelmingly common. I can say, as of 12/22, Mark and his staff are the best. Knowledgeable professionals who are worth far more than they charge. I recommend picking up your vehicle either late (best, 5PM) or at lunch time. I suggest bringing a dish because Mark and his staff are likely to invite you to share THEIR food. They grow hydroponics and vegetables on the side on the business. Mark knows his healthy foods and grows them at the site. One day I was picking up late. We snacked and had a beer. And shot things inside with an air powered rubber pellet pistol. LOL! I wasn't bad but Mark is a marksman. JoeBob says check it out and trust this man Mark. He knows cars, food, and people. A man who shares his meal with you is one you can trust. True understanding of each other, have a snack! No history of conflict while eating. Then listen to Mark and his staff. I drive a 1955 Chevy. I was driving home when I heard a POP and realized that a belt had probably broken. I passed a few other shops, and when I saw one older car in the bay at Hendy I took a chance and pulled in. It was 4:50. They got on to it immediately, and even sent a guy to the parts store for the last fan belt that store had in stock that would work on my 62 year old car. They could have told me it was too late, but they didn't. They could have delayed and said to leave the car, but they didn't. They DID check my coolant and oil levels and refilled what was down. Took my car here for a STAR smog check. I was told normally it was $60 but he'd give it to me for $50. In other words, it's not normally $60. ;) Did some research while I was waiting for the car to be done. Other places charge under $50 so they're probably a little over priced. But it was quick and done in 20 minutes. He did it right there and then. Good enough for me. Didn't feel like the most professional outfit (one dude was practicing his guitar while the other was working on my car - why not I guess), but I really have no complaints beyond that. Guy was friendly enough. No hassle. If I had done my research first I may have gone somewhere else just because of price, but I drove by the shop, saw the sign, and wanted to get it done so I just went for it. Came in Saturday about midday. They were not busy (guitar). Update: my car didn't pass the check. He explained to me the problem. Though he didn't know what to do to fix it (he didn't thoroughly check it all out, nor would I expect him to since I was just paying for the check). Ask for Mark if you bring your car here to be serviced / repaired. Overall, Mark is a great mechanic that is honest and he doesn't try to gouge your pockets. Mark is a minimalist, meaning he will only fix what you ask him to fix. Mark will make suggestions on what you should do, but he won't force you to make those repairs / adjustments. He's flexible! My uncle was the one the introduced me to Mark as he helped me uncle work on his Chevy 302cc small block. Mark helped me with my 350cc engine. I will go to Mark for the future. I took my car for Oil change and parked the car. An hour after I returned I found the car parked in same place. But the Chinese speaking owner told the oil change is done. I paid $60 and left. But I found that air pressure was low in my tyre. So they did not air the tyre. Then i opened hood and found that no wind shield liquid was added. Then to my surprise 'maint reqd' light came up. First time I've tried Hendy's and I'm very satisfied with the service they provide. Brought my car in to replace the window regulator and was quoted a very reasonable price. He told me the car will be ready at 2pm and the car was ready at 2pm. When they test drove it, they heard a noise and found out I needed the rear brakes replaced. These people are way over priced. I had a car with a couple of problems but needed to know what exactly it needed. I took it to Hendy to get a diagnostic test. The price quote was rediculous. My left side mirror was hanging off my car after I pulled out of my garage. I went to my regular mechanic, but they were closed and on vacation until Nov. 3rd! I did this on Oct. 23 rd. I couldn't drive around with my mirror hanging on the side of my car till Nov. 3. I went to Hendy Auto Service on the corner of Sunnyvale and Hendy Streets. I was pleasantly greeted and told they could get me a replacement mirror. They would have it in a couple of days. I said that would be fine. I was asked to leave a deposit and I did. I made sure I got a receipt for the deposit. I came back on Fri. 10/26 and was told the part had not arrived yet. The person helping me got on the phone with his supplier who apologized and promised to have the part there Sat morning. I agreed to this and hung up. I thanked the person helping me and went to get in my car as a blue pick up truck pulled into the yard. The person helping me said here comes your part, I'll have your car ready in one hour. As promised one hour later I had a new side view mirror on my car and the three white scratches on my drivers side door were gone! In all I had to pay $155.00 dollars for the mirror and installation. I am very happy with the results and would highly recommend Hendy Auto Service for your automotive repair needs. read more

Went here for emissions check on an older out of state car, expecting that the inevitable outcome would be that it "needed repairs" in order to pass. Mark quoted me $60 (not the cheapest around). He performed the test quickly, and the car passed first time. He identified a couple of other unrelated issues with the car, and quoted me reasonable prices to do the repairs. A co-worker recommended Hendy Auto Repair to me back in 2007 and I can tell that they are experts in their field specially Mark, my mechanic, very nice, very articulate and clear in explaining what your car's issue is and why, and he doesn't rip people off. In 2010 my Honda Accord 2000's transmission had a major problem. I asked AAMCO and other reputable shops first for a repair quote just to see what the going rate was. They were 3-4 times more expensive than Hendy's quote which was $1,500. So I went to Hendy's and Mark gave me 2 options. Option#1 Replace transmission with a brand new one which will cost almost double the price; option#2: Rebuild the top part of the transmission. He said that both methods will fix the problem, so I chose the latter since it is cheaper and my car is already 10 years old anyway and was thinking of selling it in 1-2 years. After the repair, I asked him how long does he think my rebuilt transmission will last without any issues. He said it's hard to tell but perhaps 2-4 years. It's been 8 years since and it hasn't had any transmission issues since he fixed it. I had some minor work done but those are normal wear and tear and not engine or transmission issues. I bought another car but couldn't let go of my Honda because it still looks decent, runs great, very economical in gas ,and low maintenance since I go to Hendy. I go to him for every little repair and maintenance including smog and never had any other major issues to this day. I took my toyota into Hendy to find out what was wrong with it. It's close to my house so it was convenient. After paying for an inspection to find out what was wrong with the car, I questioned the estimate to understand it better. It stated under parts, pricing for motor mounts that were for a standard and automatic car and I couldn't tell by the estimate on how many mounts were being replaced.The description under labor was vague too. I then received a revised estimate, showing the proper parts to be used and that 4 motor mounts were to be replaced. Mark also suggested a timing adjustment as I told him my car was sluggish when accelerating although I'd just had a tuneup and oil change. I got the 3rd verbal estimate when I actually took the car in to do the work. Mark called me and advised that he had not given me the pricing for a 2,2L car (although that's what it read under the description on my estimate) and that the pricing would be higher for parts. The good news, however, was that the car had 3 mounts and not 4. At this point my trust in their ability was waivering and I expressed my concern. I did not have the work done there. When I went to pickup my car, I was refunded the amount for the estimate and given a very detailed final estimate on my car. This estimate noted that I needed motor mounts and that I was missing the bolts to hold it in. The 1st I'd heard of the bolts being missing. I took my car elsewhere and the shop thought it very odd that all of the bolts that held the engine in were missing. Only 1 motor mount was cracked and needed to be replaced. After replacing just those bolts,my car was running like a champ, no more sluggishness. I would not recommend Hendy Auto Repair and would not use them even if my car broke down infront of their shop. read more
