I struggled with transferring credits, and my grades slipped as I could not catch up despite asking for help and going to tutorials. As I was playing catch up, completely overwhelmed, the college counselor disregarded me and told me maybe college just isn't for me, and wouldn't help me. My mom is from Germany and my dad went into the army at 17 so neither were able to help me, so it was detrimental when I didn't receive actual counsel from my school. I was personally bullied by the MCJROTC teacher due to being the child of an army vet. The teacher told my mom that maybe if she'd buy her lunch, I'd get more benefits in class, at which point I was removed from JROTC. And even more alarmingly, there have been sexual assaults throughout the years, including last year, that the school has relentlessly swept under the rug. This being actual rapes that are not being pursued with legal action by campus police, but rather victim blaming after full blown rape, and simple 3 day suspension of the rapist being the only action taken. This is not the only time this has happened and there have been numerous teachers throughout this district that have had relations with minors. I am appalled by the schools actions in academics, student/teacher and student/student interaction, and even legal situations like the rape of a special needs student. Something has to change, this is not a safe place for learning or even being.

The several wonderful choirs (Hanq is the minister of music), programs for youth, elderly, families, singles, young adults etc. if you can't make it watch online, download podcasts, buy tapes at the bookstore. There are so many ways to get yourself secured in the word of God. There are many things to help you not only in your spiritual journey but also the realities of life. I have taken theology in school for many years and this church just helps to increase my understanding. That's what people of faith should strive for...not to know all that is divine but to have knowledge of what is true about God and what is corruption of the Word. Know Him for yourself not what someone else has told you to be the truth. This church offers that guidance to get you there.

This is where Jesus is lifted up always. Even though the church has a large membership and growing, there are 4 services, so the effort has been made for all to attend. There is bible study, many programs to help with everyday life. The ushers and greeters are friendly. I would recommend this church if you want to grow in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. AND, if you want to learn the bible,, the truth of God's word. I pray the Lord continues to bless this wonderful body of Christians, led by William Lawson, Pastor emeritus and Dr. Cosby, the Pastor of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church. We got on a wait-list (highly nerve-wrecking) and made it in just under the wire. They have a few different options regarding attendance, 5 days a week, Mon/Weds/Fri or Tues/Thurs. class is from 9:30am- 1:30pm. This is a pre-k run out of a Methodist church so God and Jesus are very much a part of the curriculum. My husband and I aren't very religious but have no problem with this aspect. I took 1 star off because I truly wish they incorporated some dual language into the curriculum. I've noticed more early education programs offering this (mainly downtown) but it would be the cherry-on-top to also have this at HH. The teachers honestly care, the parents are involved and it's a fabulously loving environment for kiddos.

We've been very happy with our experience at the WIDE school so far. Our daughter is having fun…read morebut also learning a lot. Their curriculum is play and project based, inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach. They have Spanish class, as well as optional gymnastics and soccer classes. They are very safe and cautious in terms of COVID pandemic rules -- and when the case load gets better for a prolonged time, then they reassess. One of the things my family has most appreciated is their COVID policy. All teachers wear masks, and all kids above a certain age (3ish) wear masks as well -- aside from when eating & optionally when playing outside. They have chickens outside, a flower and vegetable garden, and rabbits and 2 aquariums inside. Right now, some of the classes are raising caterpillars into moths and butterflies, and they have just harvested some of the chicken eggs and will get to incubate them and watch them hatch! Such great experiences for kids of all ages to have. They provide gourmet lunches made in-house from fresh ingredients, many of which are organic. On Friday afternoons, you can also buy some of their house-made goodies -- they have an assortment of baked goods, desserts, soups, and savory/main dishes. If you are late on Fridays, they may sell out of certain items.
