We came to Hells a Roarin' as part of a package that included horse back riding. We were so impressed by the grounds and the views that we decided to stay a few days in their tent cabins. We were concerned that I may be too cold at night but the heater and thick blankets let us very warm. The views were spectacular!! Rolling hills, trees, wild flowers and snow capped mountains. The bonus was the view of all of the newborn horses right in from our deck! We would watched them daily. Adorable! We love this place and will definitely be coming back!

Outstanding time with the family with cool and calm horses and great guides from HELL'S A-ROARIN' OUTFITTERS just outside Yellowstone. When you visit Yellowstone make sure you schedule some time out of the park here!

It was a great first time experience. I am by far a clumpsy person.. I was scared at first, however I managed to woman up..my boyfriend and I had a great tour guide, his name was Ethan. Such a nice, knowledgeable guy. This is definitely a thing to do out here. The view is spectacular. Great family operating business. I would do this again. We took the one hour tour and I think was perfect for a first time ride.

Very well staffed, great horses, beautiful scenery. And me great value as well. We go through the Flying Pig Adventure Company and we were very happy with our entire experience. The drive through the rural, gravel road is long, maybe 15 minutes or even 20 minutes, but beautiful the entire way.

We loved our first vacation to Yellowstone, but the horseback ride at Hell's A-Roarin' was our favorite part. The staff was friendly and helpful. The tour was absolutely beautiful! It was so nice to get away from the crowds and enjoy the beautiful views. We will make this a key part of every visit from here own out.

There is simply nothing like it around. I was a solo traveler (33F) from NY never having been to MT or out west - reading reviews online I liked that the ranch didn't seem to be like a "mill" and looked like more of an individualized experience & boy was everyone right. I was immediately put at ease before I even booked when I called the ranch and Melissa spoke with me right away answering all of my questions - she is extremely knowledgeable, responsive & informative. Upon booking she sent a bunch of information for packing/activities/etc. - there were absolutely no surprises and I felt very prepared for the trip & of what to expect - if you miss something it's because you didn't read it carefully & that's on you! My cabin immediately felt like home - it was cozy, clean, and beautifully decorated. There is so much charm to the ranch. Every meal was better than the next. Melissa, Kurt, & the wranglers are the real deal - they know the country better than the back of their hand & I was so impressed by them all. Having never experienced this kind of country I quickly went from being apprehensive to eager to go out every day and explore simply because of how at ease the wranglers made me feel. Kurt & Melissa have a real talent for reading horses & people and paired everyone PERFECTLY with their horses for the week as well as the group I rode with. I have never seen better cared for/happier horses in all my years of riding - I don't even want to say my horse's name here (& I won't) because I selfishly want her for the next time I go but she was really just such a great horse. There are not enough words or space in this review to say how much I loved this ranch and how much I appreciated the kindness and warmth Melissa, Kurt, their 2 boys, the guests, animals, and the entire staff of the CWR showed me. This place will forever hold a special place in my heart & I look forward to coming back as many times as I can!!

Out party of three had no problem with the change. The guides were Royce (guide) Clayton (wrangler) and Kate (cook). I will say up front that they are the best. Very confident, knowledgeable and friendly. We had a medical issue come up with one of the other guest on day four that they handled expertly. This issue resulted in another change of route but again my party had no issues with the change.Kate needs special recognition as one fine trail cook. The meals she was able to prepare were excellent ranging from biscuits and gravy to eggs, bacon and potatoes for breakfast to the best steak I've had in my many visits to Cody to chili, spaghetti and pork loins for supper. She's the best. As for the actual ride itself, well all I can say is that I thought I'd be a lot more sore but in reality didn't feel bad once I was off the horse at the end of the day. Couple of notes, the altitude can play hell with your stamina if you're not acclimated, if you're shy about stripping down and bathing in a cold stream then bring lots of personal wipes. Make sure your sleeping bag is rated appropriately. I used a surplus Army two piece system that was perfect. Drink a lot of water throughout the day, don't wait til you're thirsty to hydrate. Trout fishing at the campsites was pretty good for those that fish. If you want a week long experience that will be the envy of your friends then you need to book this trip, remain flexible with any unforeseen changes and go enjoy the scenery.

They may not be the cheapest tour, but they're the best. To start with, the company is owned and operated by Nathan Varley (Ph.D), who participated in the reintroduction of wolves to Yellowstone in 1995. Our guides, Michelle and Jamie, were extremely knowledgeable about the park and its wildlife and plants/trees. The tour has close connections to the most accomplished biologists studying the Yellowstone Wolves, so they have access to the latest information on the location and activity of the wolf packs. Nature being nature, you can't expect guarantees that you'll see wolves, but we saw 10 wolves from the Eight Mile pack and several from the Junction Butte pack on our first day. We also saw a black bear sow and her two cubs emerge from their den, as well as a fox, mountain goats, big horn sheep, elk, and buffalo. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the evening programs and the evening meal. Chef Zac prepared possibly the best meals we have ever had, anywhere. He really is incredible. Dr. James Halfpenny's presentation on Track Scene Investigation (TSI) was not only educational but fascinating as well. Bob Landis, who won an Emmy Award for his documentary "Wolf Pack" previewed his latest documentary project on the birds of Yellowstone, with his usual outstanding nature photography. The tour provides high quality spotting scopes (Swaroski and Nikon), so there's no need to bring your own, but you'll probably want to bring a decent pair of binoculars. We were very happy with our tour, and recommend them highly.

When a public visitor asked him what he was looking at, he made several rude remarks and refused to show others. I talked to some other guides and they were very kind, but Jamie needs to recognize that Yellowstone is a public park and he doesn't own any of the viewing spots. I would never support a company with employees as rude as Jamie. Also, this company doesn't actually "track" wolves. They drive to parking spots and set up spotting scopes to view them from very far away. You can easily do the same thing on your own; just bring/rent binoculars and stop wherever you see groups of other people looking. Here are some pictures I took on my own without the guides. Just get to Lamar Valley at sunrise and wildlife is everywhere! It's honestly more fun to talk to other guests and spot animals together instead of paying for a rude guide to show you and hide it from others.
