The ranch is about 20 minutes outside of gardiner and it's a beautiful and scenic drive. We did it with a minivan no problem. The horses are very tame and docile. The owner warren was a genuine class act. Our guide Peyton was very knowledgable and friendly. Pointed out many small details. Their dogs Sam, sawyer and millie followed us the entire trail. They were rolling in the snow and leading the way. We were riding with wild elk within 25 yards! Highly recommend and wish we did a longer ride! read more

My mother and I recently went to Hell's A-Roarin and we had a blast! When we first walked in the ranch, we were greeted by four friendly dogs. There were also a plethora of horses in their stables and baby horses. The wranglers were hospitable and gave us forms to sign which gave us an overview of what horseback riding rules and safety regulations. As we were guided to our horses, they introduced us to them and told us how to control our horses. At first, I was skeptical because there was no harness involved and I felt that I was gonna fall off. But as we continued riding, I felt much more relaxed and confident in controlling my horse. Such a beautiful ride, with such kind and considerate staff and leaders! I stupidly locked my keys in my truck, which I realized I had done after my horseback ride, and the whole team (especially Jay R. and Sue) were so kind and helpful to me whilst they had a million other things to do that day. I will be returning with the whole family and hopefully booking an overnight adventure soon. I like to take horse rides wherever I travel to (if it is accommodating to do so) and this was absolutely one the best experiences I have ever had!! This is just about a ride and getting on the horse that follows the leader. You're lucky if you learn one thing about the history of the area that you're riding on. They're young riders that help keep the horses in line but to learn about the ranch or history of the land you won't get it. You get some great views but its the same terrain the whole hour. read more

What a wonderful experience. We enjoyed a one hour ride with Aidan after we confused our time. Hells a roarin figured out a solution which turned out to be perfect. This amazing location has 300+ Well cared for horses and has awesome rides overlooking Yellowstone. The staff is super helpful. They learn everything they need to to support the summer tourism season. My husband and I, very healthy and in our early 60's, and our 20 year old daughter were very excited about our upcoming horse riding adventure on July 31, 2020. Turns out we should not have booked a full-day adventure. It was a very long day and we only stopped once which was for lunch. We had no idea there would be only stop all day. Having a 9 year old young lady behind me crying and begging to stop for at least two hours wasn't that bad, we could live with that, and about half way through, they finally helped her. Two of us had issues with our stirrups and the fit of the saddles. On the way home we were able to get our stirrups adjusted, but it still felt like I was going to fly off every time the horse was trotting. It was scary! During the entire day, our leader was so far ahead of us, we couldn't hear anything he was saying, i.e., "we're going to stop here in our tracks for a drink now." We wouldn't know that until he got us going again which was too late, because again we weren't aware of what was going on up front. My husband who was behind me, had a horse that he couldn't keep from stopping and eating no matter what he tried and when it did get going, the two of them were so far behind, the horse took off like a bullet. Again, still not the problem. It wasn't until the end of the day when we were approaching the end point, did things get hairy. While we were riding the horses to the barn, the horses got spooked by incoming cars (why on earth there were incoming cars driving next to our group is beyond me!) but this spook scared my husband's horse so much that it bolted to the barn, and the saddle slid off and my husband fell at least four feet to the ground, flat on his back! It was horrible! One of the riders who didn't work there but was familiar with horses, tried to get my husband to hurry and get out of the way, before the horse stomped on him! Luckily it didn't! (I knew there were issues with those saddles!) I told myself at the time, that if they were to call us later that day or the next to make sure my husband was OK, we would have been satisfied that Hells a Roaring had done the responsible thing and used their due diligence and see if he was OK. We would have been grateful and satisfied that they truly cared about their guests. The thing is, they didn't. What if he had been stepped on by the horse and had injuries or broke his back? Oh, that's right, we signed that release at the beginning that we didn't have to read thoroughly. That would have gotten them off the hook if someone was hurt or even killed! Had they done the right thing, this review would not have been written. read more

We came to Hells a Roarin' as part of a package that included horse back riding. We were so impressed by the grounds and the views that we decided to stay a few days in their tent cabins. We were concerned that I may be too cold at night but the heater and thick blankets let us very warm. The views were spectacular!! Rolling hills, trees, wild flowers and snow capped mountains. The bonus was the view of all of the newborn horses right in from our deck! We would watched them daily. Adorable! We love this place and will definitely be coming back! read more

Our family loved our experience with Hells A-Roarin'. After our ride was moved to a later time by Paradise Adventure (booking error on their part) we arrived and were taken care of. My family of four and I went on a rainy cold day, ranch was beautiful, cowgirls and boys were patient, accommodating and very genuinely nice. Stay for dinner, was delicious. Good variety for my picky teen eaters. Cat and Ian sat with us at dinner and were very talkative and explained the workings of the ranch. Great personalities. Morgan was very patient with me on the ride, as my horse wanted to munch his way around the trail. Dan had a mind of his own and loved the purple flowers. Came here on my family vacation! Was so excited, had a great time horseback riding. Unfortunately, left with five giant scratches on our car. A horse was not kept in the fenced in area, we got blamed for parking in the parking lot. Came back to collect insurance information and got yelled at for even asking. Also got accused of "trying to run the someone else's business" by the owner. We even had video proof of this happening. Also got accused of trespassing when we were speaking to management because we were parked in the parking lot. The owner offered to shake on it that she would pay for the issues, she claimed shaking hands was a "sealed deal"....living 1,700 miles away, this didn't really cut it for us. Still waiting on the insurance info six months later. Do not recommend. I'd give it 0 stars if Yelp would let me! read more

We came to do horseback riding as part of a combo with our water rafting trip. This ranch was absolutely gorgeous. The young people who led the trails and took care of the guests were so friendly & polite & the whole experience was just fantastic. We regretted not staying overnight in their "glamping" tents. Definitely stay for the cookout. The horses were beautiful & gentle, the grounds were stunning, food was delicious & the staff were terrific. Don't miss this place. We booked an hour long horseback riding trip with Hells a-roaring by means of the Flying Pig. We got up to the ranch, and there was a medical emergency on the trip that had gone out just prior to ours, which then set us back an hour. This then caused us to miss our rafting trip that was to occur back to back. The staff was very apologetic (even though it was not their fault at all-emergencies happen), and called the Flying Pig to explain and make sure we could get on another rafting time later in the day. They let us sit in their air conditioned lodge, and offered us drinks while we waited. The staff is very nice also. Very hard working young adults. Thank you so much! read more

I tried calling this location and no one answered. I had to go into town to Flying Pig in person (because they didnt answer their phones either) and schedule a time with them to go to this ranch. You need to be there an hour before each ride begins. A fun horseback riding experience for myself and my boyfriend who has never ridden a horse before. We were in a group of 6 total, with a family of 4, plus two guides. The family had a child who was disabled and could not control her horse well, but all the horses were gentle and the guide provided assistance when necessary. The view on this ride was absolutely gorgeous. We walked through a few small creeks and on to a hillside and could see beautiful snow top mountains with luscious grass every where! I had one of the older horses and I weigh about 150# and he started coughing parts of the way up the hill, which was kind of awkward. But besides that, the guides, the trail and the horses were great. read more

This is a review for the wonderful customer service we received from the company, as we were never able to actually go horseback riding. I tried booking horseback riding and wild west cookout through the Yellowstone website, but was told they were completely sold out and it was unlikely anyone would be cancelling. We searched yelp and decided to book a ride and cookout for our group of 8 with Hell's a Roarin' that was supposed to take place mid-June. Unfortunately, the week of our trip turned out to be very cold and rainy. Not only were we really sad to miss this highlight of our trip, but we had prepaid for part of the trip and was not sure what would happen to the deposit. Susan put us at ease immediately by refunding us the full amount. Next time we are in town, we will definitely be booking with Hell's A Roarin' again. read more

Whoo-hoo! A real Ranch that takes us "dudes" out on rides into the wilderness. This is a working horse and outfitter ranch. If you want swimming pools and tennis courts where the smells of live stock occur on a time schedule and far away ... then this is not your ranch. You come here to ride, and to ride in a wilderness environment. There are real working cowboys to assist you, and there are grizzly bear and bison and elk in the forests. Mountains surround you. Yellowstone NP is only a "spit and a holler" away from you ... really. Lodging is comfortable, their food is hot and there's lots of it. The owners shake your hand with a firm grip, a smile and then it's time to mount up. I have enjoyed bringing my guests to Hells Roaring and will continue to do so. rbd read more

I visited Hell's A Roarin while in Gardiner for a half day horseback trip. We had a great time. Really got ot see some interesting scenery and went up on some interesting cliffs. Saw some wildlife. Our guide was very friendly and helpful. It was very cold, so dress warm. The ride was not inside the park, but it was still enjoyable. Booked through Flying Pigs, but you may get a cheaper discount by booking directly through them. Thoroughly enjoyed my ride, although it was a bit long for a non-rider like myself. read more

We were a family of 3 from Germany doing a 1 hour horseback ride in the evening. We booked through Flying Pig Adventures who gave us a good description and map of how to get to the ranch. The way is almost completely gravel road and we had a little compact car. It was doable and the way itself is pretty, but a car more suited for roads like that would probably make the getting there easier. The ranch itself is beautifully located and the staff was friendly, polite and helpful from the beginning. I was scared a bit about my parents having communication difficulties as both are not really good in English and I couldn't always be there to translate, but the staff was great and explained it to them in a simple and clear way. We all had never been on a horse before, but it turned out to be pretty easy and our guides were very helpful if ever there was any problem. The ride itself was a lot of fun and the scenery was very pretty! I enjoyed it a lot, as did my parents and we would definitely recommend it. read more
