The pricing was just right too -- it was totally reasonable for the food items we received. Ok, after my last disappointment w/ this place, I vowed to not return. However, we needed a gift and decided to go for a Hello Bagel bakers dozen and some Veggie cream cheese. Veggie cream cheese was a tad bland not like I remembered. Bagels were ok, friends said they went stale fast, but what was most surprising is that we got the bagels in a PLAIN BROWN BAG !!! :-( Please, Hello Bagel if you are reading this, get some branded bags or a kick ass branded box like Einsteins or something like that. I like this place, but the experience is disappointing 90% of the time. As I write this, I've been waiting for 20+ mins while people that have came in 15 mins after me are receiving their bagels, and I didn't even get anything different or complicated. The communication is SO bad. I don't know how they continuously fail to provide a good customer experience. Half of the time you aren't even acknowledged when you walk in or anything. The atmosphere here is great; the place is spacious, the decor is inviting, the staff is friendly, WiFi's quick, and outlets are easily accessible. Because we're 500 miles from Manhattan and I haven't been in the Northeast since August, I'll let go of my pretension... (though I will gladly note that they had some NYC-themed artwork up, likely en hommage to the Mecca of bagels!) The bagels here were pleasantly surprising; I wasn't blown away, but I can see myself stopping in with some frequency. The bagels are somewhere in the middle of the texture range - I usually prefer a thicker crust and a denser core. (I wonder if they're committed to their recipe or if they're experimenting, as they only opened a month ago.) I also do wish they had asked me before toasting my bagel :-/ Oh well. There are some other baked goods available (coffee cake, cookies, etc.) that looked good and a decent selection of alternative drinks (cane sugar cream soda and root beer, ginger beer, birch beer, 'spritzers,' etc.). I did not try their coffee and am unsure of whether or not they offer more advanced coffee drinks though I will note that their tea selection (Tazo) was a bit uninspired. I'd recommend that they invest in some loose-leaf teas or at least some other less commercial brand. I'm excited to stop in again and will report back on their progress! :) read more

Can't get enough of this place. I find myself looking forward to mornings because of how great the bagels are here. The staff are generally super friendly ( however, there is always one that seems like she doesn't want to be there.. ), and the service is quick. I'm a huge fan of the Jalapeno Bagels. Which sadly are mostly sold on weekends, and sell out quick if you are not there early (They recently started introducing them on week days now too though. So this may change permanently!). Not enough to knock a star off though as their original bagel with Veggi cream cheese is great. All in all, if you are looking for a quick breakfast/bagel fix, this is the place to go to! Friendly atmosphere and great food. Have yet to try it for lunch, but will some day. read more

The food is great, but the service consistently leaves something to be desired. This weekend, I came and ordered two plain bagels. Instead of a plain bagel, they gave me an egg bagel instead. How do you give someone the wrong bagel when you're literally a bagel shop? Also, the cream cheese was only put on one side of the bagel, leaving the other side completely plain. I ordered two very generic bagels for myself and my partner. The girl behind the counter seemed to be confused by my order, even though I was ordering off of the menu directly in front of her. My partner's bagel was ordered with egg and ketchup, both of which did not end up on her bagel. Went to Hello Bagel for my first time today, the store was extremely clean. I made an online order, the website was easy to navigate and checking out methods were convenient (I used Apple Pay). The store itself had a relaxing atmosphere and it smelled amazing walking in. The staff was very helpful and friendly, which made an already amazing experience even better. Even if there is only one person ahead of you in line, be prepared to wait for 5 minutes because each staff member is doing the work that should be allocated to two people. Good bagels! The only place in Blacksburg for a proper NY style bagel. Chewy, soft on the inside and great options for flavors (garlic, everything, and Asiago are my favorites). Love the herb cream cheese - so flavorful. My only complaint is the price - a bit expensive. Especially since any "premium" bagels are $1 more and specialty cream cheese are also an up charge. I'd rather not pay $8 for two bagels and cream cheese, but I'll continue to do so since it's the best (maybe only) bagel shop in Blacksburg. read more

Wow - it's rare that Yelp steers me wrong, but this place is completely over-hyped. We were in town for a few days and I was jonesing for a bagel fix, so I found this place. I asked for the egg bagel toasted with cream cheese. When my order was ready, the bagel wasn't toasted at all. The barista swore it was, but really, it was basically warmed for two seconds - there was no "toasting" of the bread at all. So I asked for it to be done again. The second one wasn't any better than the first. At that point, given the challenges to understanding what "toasted" means, I figured I'd just go with it since I was running late anyway. And then - disappointment. This bagel was half stale, half cardboard tasting. I mean really, not much of a step up from what you'd get at a grocery store pre-packaged. Even Panera bagels are better, and I have a special place in my heart for hatred of Panera bagels. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone - and the fact that it has four stars must be indicative of how few real decent coffee shop/breakfast options there are in Blacksburg. read more

I am a New Yorker and these are legitimately awesome bagels. They always have salt bagels freshly baked and their veggie cream cheese is ridiculously good. People complaining about subpar breakfast sandwiches or a limited menu have missed the point. This is a NY-style bagel place - emblematic of the NYC bagel specialty places where you get your egg sandwich on a hard roll from a different deli on the corner.
