Both my…read morehusband and I went to small private high schools so were a little nervous about the size of our high school and encouraged our daughter to check out the local private schools. I didn't have RZ on our radar since we are far from religious, but after hearing so many great things from friends who had sent their kids figured it was worth checking out. My husband and I went to a parent meeting and were super impressed with the staff we went and warmth of the school. We had visited other schools, which seemed great too, but this one really stood out. As we walked out my husband turned to me and said "how do we convince her to check this out?" When I first brought up the idea of touring RZ my daughter was not into it. I finally agreed to get her to look at it back in the fall with some type of bribery- always works wonders with 13 year olds. Their incredible admissions director, Staci, and a few inspiring students took an hour to show us around. I, once again, was incredibly impressed with the warmth from both the faculty and students. It really felt like one big happy family. We walked out of the tour and my daughter surprisingly said "I'm probably going to high school with my friends, but i liked RZ enough for you to sign me up for a shadow day" Shadow day arrived and she gave me a really hard time on the drive there saying that she wasn't sure why we were wasting our time when she clearly wasn't going to end up there. I dropped her off and braced myself for a pout face when she walked out later that day. Staci checked in halfway thru thru the day to let me know she was having a great day, but still I wasn't sure what to expect. I pulled up at the end of the school day (no carline by the way since it's such a small school and the majority of the population drives) and my daughter walked out with the biggest smile on her face carrying a water bottle full of candy from teachers. She got in my car and said "That was SO much fun! I think I might want to go to school there!" She couldn't stop talking about how nice and welcoming the kids were at RZ. While I had worried that each grade was so small, she seemed to get to know kids from all different grades and I loved the idea that they mix so much. When I asked her why it was so fun her response was "it almost feels like camp." (and she loves nothing more than her summers at overnight camp). After that we attended a few other RZ events from interviews to curriculum night. She walked out of her interview with the athletic director and informed me she would not only be playing tennis at RZ, but possibly basketball too. I reminded her she hadn't dribbled a ball since 3rd grade and she responded "well they told me anyone can play basketball at RZ." At curriculum night we were wow'd by the passion of the teachers and offerings. Even the jewish studies classes seemed fun. The curriculum was interesting and challenging and the faculty amazing (special shoutout to Staci who went above and beyond to get to know our family). However, what really stood out were the kids who go to the school. They went out of their way to reach out to my daughter to show their love for RZ and every conversation left me thinking "I hope my kids turn out like them when they are in high school." She was incredibly torn between RZ and our local high school and before spring break we forced her to make a decision. My husband loved RZ so much he wanted to just tell her to go, but I felt like it was important for her to make the decision for freshman year (and if necessary we could weigh in sophomore year). Ultimately, she decided to go to our public high school because she wanted to experience the big high school experience, but the fact that she ended up so torn (after being so anti private school) shows what a special place RZ is. I'm hopeful that my daughter has a stellar freshman year, but am thrilled to know that if we want a smaller environment where she'll get more attention (or perhaps her younger brothers) RZ is an amazing option.

The decision to send them to Rochelle Zell Jewish High School has been one of the best we've made as a family. RZJHS is committed to preparing students for college and beyond, equipping them with the academic foundation and critical thinking skills they need to succeed. The warm and nurturing environment at RZJHS is truly unique; the teachers genuinely care about the students, providing individualized attention and support that goes above and beyond what you'd find elsewhere. Our boys loved the sports program at RZJHS, playing soccer, basketball, and tennis! We're grateful every day for the positive impact this school has had on our children, both academically and personally.

Only relying on other teachers, an answer key and a textbook for us to learn from instead of them. As well as the 8th grade science teacher. One was very fun to talk to, yet the other teacher couldn't teach at all, relying on the internet and is always on "G-chat". In my opinion, the 6th grade science teacher would always complain for the smallest things that we did although we were barely pre-teens then. Always pointing at the board, showing off her nails. If I had the chance, I would walk away from this school during breaks. We can't forget the art teacher. Rumors about him liking younger human beings and always records and takes pictures at kids without their consent. Seems pretty weird if you ask me... And this school reeked with horrible smells. Someone needs to start cleaning the 7th grade hallway or use febreeze!! Now the the P.E. teachers, there was one man that would make a bit upset. He doesn't understand how it feels to go through menstruation and says " exercise makes it better" but as soon as I exercise, I start feeling crippled even more with pain and have to be escorted. That made me feel "real good"... Overall, the vice principal needs to start hiring actual good teachers unlike these. There's a reason why many people don't like this school and are excited to leave.

Sadly, I've never attended school here and our house isn't zoned for the district. Instead, I'm reviewing Stevenson for its fantastic community education program PREP. I've attended two classes here and had great experiences. For 8 weeks this fall, I learned ASL with a group of women ranging from high school age to retired 60s. All of us attended the class with different goals in mind, but all loved it. Our instructor Jillian was fantastic. For those two hours weekly, we learned new signs, had pop quizzes, and asked tons of questions related to ASL. I learned so much and value the experience greatly. When my hectic working mom schedule ever simmers down again to allow a hobby, I plan to continue to learn more. The other class I attended was sushi in the food lab with my husband as a mini date of sort. The Stevenson food lab is gorgeous like much nicer than our 1998 laminate kitchen countertop in our house. The instructor was again fantastic and informative. My husband and I had a great night and have already signed up for the next sushi class. Thanks to the Stevenson PREP program, I became one of those adults who attends adult education classes at a high school. Fortunately, they were wonderful experiences. I plan to look at the brochure and find other classes or mini date nights.

We came to Guidepost on a referral from friends who attended and it has been nothing short of a truly wonderful experience. We did not come here as Montessori-fanatics, but quickly realized what wonders it was doing for our child. Her growth, sense of independence, and creativity have flourished here. All of her teachers have been loving, attentive, and communicative. Abbey and Christine, the school leadership, are always reachable and open to discussions when I have questions/feedback. We love sending our daughter here because she know she is safe, loved, and engaged in her learning. We would absolutely recommend Guidepost Deerbrook to any family looking for a home for their child!

I compared over 10 daycares thoroughly prior to sending him here and I'm very happy with my decision. I love that my little one does a variety of creative and fun activities daily with Montessori philosophy as a foundation. I feel sincere care and love from the teachers and staff here, and I appreciate the teachers taking the time to do a parent-teacher conference to share detailed feedback on the child. It helps parents understand where we can better support him to enjoy his day and grow. I also like that the school puts lots of effort into building a community. The monthly gatherings/ events for families and kids, sending out weekly newsletters, and having a FB family communication page... they go above and beyond! I highly recommend Guidepost to my family and friends!
