Downfall is the room we got. Room 327 ! If you ever get this room ASK for a different one. It's right across the hall from the room service close/facility. Kept us up till almost midnight loud talking, banging , shuffling things. I get it they are working but I was trying to rest. Also got a knock on the door while I was sleeping giving us a bottle or body was that we did not request it was the wrong room.

Hotel also provided me the wrong information on the pick up location at ZRH. While waiting for the shuttle, in 20 mins. I have seen 3 Hilton shuttles came by. Should stay at Hilton next time.

To get the 3rd floor, I used the elevator and my room was across the hall. Upon entering, my room and bathroom looked clean. Although there was no mini fridge, there was a water kettle with instant coffee and tea plus one bottle of water. Leaving at 5 am the next day, breakfast was not available until after 6am. To get to the airport, we opted to take Uber instead of the bus with the first car cancelling after 10 minutes while we stood out in the cool morning. Other than missing a mini fridge to keep our food cold, breakfast, and a live person to ask questions, HWI met our needs for a quick one night stay.

One thing that really surprised us was having to go through border control and customs on top of the already long security line before we entered certain terminals. It took us over an hour and a half to get through just border control and we hadn't expected that at all. Better signs or clearer communication about the process would have made a big difference. Getting from our plane to our next gate was also confusing. We were connecting on the same airline but after getting off the plane we had to take a tram to get to our next gate which was the SAME airline. The airport wasn't marked very well and we constantly second guessed if we were going in the right direction. On the positive side the food was never a problem here. Options seemed to be everywhere around the airport and there was a wide variety no matter where we were. We also liked that sleeping accommodations were available. They were a bit expensive for what you get but it was nice to have that option after a long trip or a long overnight layover like us. Overall Zurich Airport is clean and modern and offers lots of conveniences but I think they could greatly enhance passenger experience by having clearer signs and a process that is easier to understand.

With the recent implementation of the EES for non-EU citizens and people on social media freaking out over it, I was a bit anxious about how long I'll be standing in line for and saddened that EU countries will no longer be stamping passports. Some EU countries rolled out EES as early as end of 2025, everyone else waited until April 2026, 2-3 countries have an app to expedite the process. Switzerland? Well, there were no EES kiosks. You have to stand in line for an immigrations officer. What I found annoying was once immigrations officer who was not doing anything as the lines keep growing. All he did was confuse people to tell them to stand on this line only to tell them to go back to the end of the line then go to the next line. He did that to multiple people including myself. He's just toying with people at that point. Good thing I didn't have any plans after my arrival since I was anticipating being stuck at the airport for at least 2 hours. ZRH itself is quite nice. You can get last-minute chocolate shopping at Laderach or just enjoy a good cup of hot chocolate and chocolate cake at Sprüngli - both with multiple locations inside the airport. There's also plenty of decent eateries to choose from. Getting to the city and back is pretty easy. There are multiple ways to do so. Multiple trains that go to Zürich Hauptbahnhof that take under 20 minutes. The airport is easy to navigate. Signage is clear. Bathrooms are clean. Potable water even through tap.

The hotel is super convenient as it is directly attached to the Airport and to the rail station. We were not excited to eat at the hotel, so the Zur Alten Taverne Kloten was recommended by Yelp and the hotel front desk. By taxi the restaurant is 5 minutes away. By foot it is a 20 minute walk. The restaurant has two dining areas; a glass enclosed garden terrace and a more indoor bar/Swiss pub area. Both areas are quite comfortable. The wine list is not extensive but the choices are reasonably priced. They did offer 3 different beers on draft that were a highlight. The restaurant offers a good selection of Swiss and European dinner options. Everyone on our team enjoyed their selections, including the deserts. If you are overnighting at the airport, Zur Alten Taverne is an excellent option.

We also got an order of Argentine empanadas since the menu boasted they were a house recipe. They were just the right combination of savory meat and flaky, fried dough. They were light considering and came with a crisp, fresh salad. Though neither dish were traditional Zurich fare, we enjoyed eating al fresco on the patio adjacent to a small green space behind some flats. The patio had the loveliest flowers around it, and the tempt was perfect for eating outdoors. Service was very good. Like most service we've experienced in Europe, the server is attentive until your meal is served and then you are left in peace to enjoy your meal. We would eat there again and recommend it if you are staying overnight near Zurich International Airport. The only drawback was that there were few options for gluten free diners which we've found to be relatively typical.
