We stopped at Helena's Diner on our way from Gros Morne to Codroy Valley. The hand-painted "hand-cut fries" sign on the side of the road caught our attention.
The restaurant is in a small building that once also housed an auto garage, but it is now closed, giving the whole place an abandoned look. That's unfortunate, since it probably means that this little spot is overlooked. There is an open motel sharing the same paved lot.
It also doesn't help that there is a gas station with a restaurant just down the road. We actually stopped at that restaurant on our way from the ferry to Gros Morne. I wish we had known Helena's was just around the corner.
Their fries were yummy. The restaurant itself is clean and cared for. The staff were friendly, asking about our travels. Our food was prepared quickly.
I would eat there again. read more
