DO NOT trust them with your wedding gown - It took my daughter 6 visits to get her dress right - and it was just days before the wedding. We had appointments every time and 2 times they had "forgotton" to do the work, one time it was wrong and had to be redone. When we asked them to steam the item since it was 4 days before the wedding they were going to charge us - we did not pay them one more dollar. Very disappointed. read more

It's been over 7 years since my last review of Helena Tailor and I said I might take minor alterations elsewhere because of the steep price. Ha, what a fool I was. Pretty much all of my clothes require alteration (gotta pay the "short tax"!) and I only trust Helena Tailor to do them. Jennifer does excellent work. She will tell you the limitations of the certain piece and the best approach. I've had a few things that weren't as expected fit wise upon initial tailoring and she goes out of here way to make it perfect for you, even if that requires a second go at it. read more

I bought my wedding gown online but of course it needed a few minor alterations. I found the reviews for this shop and they were very positive so I decided to take a chance. I'm glad I did! Jennifer was awesome to work with, did a beautiful job, and my dress was ready when promised. When I tried it on after alterations the armholes were still a little tight so Jennifer asked if I could come back in an hour or so and she would readjust them. Since Starbucks is in the same area, I told her I'd have a cup of coffee and maybe run another errand while I waited. Within 30 minutes I received a call that the dress was ready! I am a fan!! After my experience with another tailor shop (read my review) coming here is night and day! Helena gets it, she understands what you want, she listens and she takes her time measuring and pinning as necessary in order to get your clothes to fit correctly! I have taken ALL my jeans/pants to her to fix from the other tailor I went to, and I can say that Helena is going to be person I take all my clothes too! Her establishment is nice, clean, and inviting.. Modern and up to date! (unlike the other place which was old and smelled like mildew) Her prices are VERY reasonable, also when she says that they are going to be ready on a certain date, they are ready! I have never had any issues with her "forgetting". I am really impressed with her ensuring that the customer is satisfied! When I brought all my jeans to her, I explained the size differance on my left leg (1/2 inch due to surgery) and she took the time and pinned both legs, measured, and did her thing.. She is young and understands what's in style and understands the look your going for in jeans, and in your dress pants! I took two pairs of raw denim here in order to have the legs tapered slightly. These pants are very thick fabric, and I was asking for them to be tapered from the inside to preserve the selvedge - definitely an overcomplicated request for some jeans. I came in to have a few business dresses altered. I have a short torso, so I asked to have the shoulders taken up. She didn't want to do that bc that meant extra work for her to readjust the zipper. She kept pulling my dress down and telling me she will alter it another way, by hemming them up. Pulling the dress down revealed way too much cleavage to be work appropriate. She would not do what I asked. I left without her altering my dresses since taking up the shoulder was what I wanted. She does not know the fit of clothes and how they should be. She doesn't want to do things that would be "extra" work for her. I have never encountered this before with another tailor. read more

I had my wedding dress altered here. I had the train cut off, made sleeves out of the fabric, added cups so no bra was needed with the dress and had it tailored to fit me. Price was absolutely reasonable and my dress only took just under 4 weeks to finish. Shop owner is super responsive and very kind. Felt super comfortable during all of my fittings. I believe my first visit to this fine establishment was 2000. Ever since then this is my only tailor in town. They have never failed me and I have given them plenty of chances. I've lost count how many items they fixed or crafted fro me. They do sensational work for a fair price. They get things finished promptly. The bad news is that there isn't much you can say about a tailor who does their work well. At the end of the day they just follow through with what you need them to do. Pretty simple. But the staying power of this business and every single one of my interactions with them is a testament to their high level of professionalism and commitment to serve their clients. read more

I got a dress for my friends wedding that was just too big and was dropping on my shoulders/chest area and had no chest support. I took it into Helena and she fixed it right up for me! There was a lot of altering that needed to be done and she got it all done in a very timely manner. She is also very professional and so so sweet! I love this place. I will have to update when I actually get my clothes back, but I came here because, as another yelper (not on this thread) has said, dropping your beloved clothes off to at the unknown to come back altered is a cause for anxiety (I think he said "terrifying" but you get the idea). Anyway, I liked the tone of the reviews, and I had a special request, so I decided I needed to go to someone top-notch and artistic. I had some really cute organic yoga bras that fit but just didn't hold up/cover the girls, and what I brought in were these bras and a sack of material to somehow attach to them. The tailor, whom I shall call Helena, was super sweet and completely knew what to do. She did not look at me as if I were crazy, which I anticipated. Now I have complete confidence I will have some improved yoga bras and some Free People pull on kick flares that fit my very average, but apparently "short" to clothing websites, stature. Helena is my new best friend. Also, the location is quite nice being in the same shopping center as Four Graces and behind Blue Seven and Urban T. Usually I just cut off the extra length in my jeans, but I actually bought these off of a website (usually my jeans are just acquired free or via thrift), so I thought I'd go professional this time. read more

My daughter took a pile of things in to have altered. She lives out of state and does not have easy access to a tailor. The alterations were delayed a few times. When they were ready, I picked them up and sent them to my daughter--only half of them were done. Because of shipping costs and time constraints, we did not bring them back. I also took in drapes to be hemmed at the same time as the clothes and some panels were done properly and others no. I will not take anything there unless I try it on before picking it up and examine it very carefully. There was a time when everything was done perfectly--not now. I will not take any drapes there. There is a women in the back that does not handle the customers-- I think she get overwhelmed and just marks it done. read more

Helena Tailor is wonderful! The owner is the kindest person and she was incredibly helpful. My daughter needed a prom dress hemmed and the material was hard to work with and voluminous! Jennifer, the owner, did an excellent job. She even added a bustle so that my daughter could button up the train of her dress after the pictures. She also sewed up the neckline a bit so that it wouldn't be revealing. Jennifer's price was extremely reasonable. As I said, I was so impressed that she offered to add on the bustle. Awesome service! Helena has improved my wardrobe 100% by making small, stylish modifications to the garments I already own, but haven't been wearing, because perhaps it was slightly too big, or too long, or whatever. Today, she suggested altering a fine linen straight skirt to become a pencil skirt. This simple modification totally updated the look and I can continue enjoying my classic skirt without feeling frumpy.
