While in Essen-Heisingen I discovered the local bookshop. Not very surpringly it is called Heisinger Buchhandlung. It is situated in this mini pedestrian zone right at the central roundabout. You cannot miss it.
The Heisinger Buchhandlung is relatively small with just one room but offers the full range of book genres from tourist guides to novels. There is a nice corner for children books and a rather large area for crime thrillers and murder mystery. Bestsellers, new arrivals and whatever currently is en vogue can be found, too. Finding is easy with the help of the nice lady who does the service and who can offer advice on what is worth reading. This way my wife found something for her holidays (well, women).
Nice the regional souvenir stuff: Heisingen, Essen, the Ruhr Area in books, on bags or cups. Coming from this part of the world you simply must like it.
Rather entertaining the brief discussion with the owner of the shop: books not available in the store can be ordered during the day until 6 pm and usually will be delivered during the night for pick up in the shop from 9 am the next day (so, even a faster delivery than these internet book stores can offer). And if you are looking for something exotic, not only books but also CDs and DVDs, you found the right place. The owner obviously likes the challenge and promised the stubbornness of a terrier. I believed him. :-) read more
