I've had bitterballen at two restaurants in New York and one in Mexico City. These bitterballen - the first I have tried in their home country of the Netherlands - were far and away the most disappointing bitterballen I've ever eaten. They tasted bland, and seemed to be full of cheap filler - a big distance from the savory, beefy flavor I was expecting.
The mustard was good for whatever that's worth.
If you're just trying to consume fried calories, I guess these will do. But if you're looking for a great bitterballen experience at Schiphol, maybe keep looking. The service was friendly enough, and the tables were comfortable. If you just need a place to sit and eat & drink while you're waiting for your flight at Schiphol, you could do worse than the Heineken Bar. I just wish they did a little better with the food. read more
